Its interesting how the Swedish Commanders are seen as incompetent in this version vs the swedish one, where Rensköld is depicted as doing as heroic charge and the Carolenas are also portrayed in a more heroic and glorious manner.
For instance " So fight on yellow and blue Carolenas final battle, faced death faced defeat, god's will be done, warriors." Is a rough translation to how they are portrayed in the Swedish version.

It's not that they were incompetent they just weren't at the same level as King Charles when it came to tactics.

You know what's funny about Poltava is that 150ish years later Napoleon would make the same mistake as King Charles did trying to cross into Russia unprepared. Napoleon read about great conquerers of history but I guess he skipped over King Charles XII aka Carolus Rex.

I love the "Listen, excuse for a King" part... you know Carolus was in trouble there...
Next up, "Long live the king", and then I wonder what they're going to do for Ruina Imperii...
Are they going to do a lyric video with Swedish lyrics and English translations or English subtitles?

I feel like just the music alone can kind of make you picture whats happening and it fits so well with the way they make their songs and I bet it makes most people wanna see music videos for all their songs but thats just too good to be true and costly 😂

Yes!!!!! What more can I say? Always good content and I can not tell you how much I love your history and music knowledge. Did you get a chance to see them live, when they were here the past few months? I saw them in Cincinnati, and it was absolutely amazing.

Hi Dave, I always find your reactions so interesting, because you always bring things so cool to the point. And you always discover something that I haven't noticed or couldn't name while listening to the song.
Poltava is also a very powerful track and I really like the timbre of Joakim's voice here.

I hope you had a good Thanksgiving Dave. Badass reaction as always! I feel like we're winding down on the Sabaton songs you covered a majority of the good ones. Not all of them tho gotta do Swedish Pagans next!

Russia had this tactic called Scorched Earth where they would retreat and burn everything the enemy could use that they couldn't take with them. This tactic is why the Swedes were so exhausted cause they couldn't capture any supplies as they continued on. When they reached Poltava the Russian army was waiting for them. It's said there were millions of Russian soldiers facing off against the much smaller Swedish army and that helped overrun them. When the song says "King has left command." It's because he got injured so they had to evacuate him leaving command to lesser ranking officers who were not as skilled tactician as King Charles was.

Defo one of my favourite sabaton songs though I always feel bad jamming to it since the actual event it’s covering is so fucking tragic.

poltava is a town far into the kievan rus' (the predecessors to ukrainians) lands, when charles xii (aka carolus rex) marched into the rus' lands, they retreated with their scorched earth tactic, leaving little to no supplies for the marching swedish army to loot, the swedish army when they reached poltava was weakened from marching for so long through scorched lands., after the defeat at poltava, the surviving swedes retreated down the dnepr river continuing over to what is today moldova, back then was ottoman empire, seeking shelter from the revenge of the rus army in the ottoman town of bender, charles xii overstayed his welcome in bender and we get what is depicted in the english music video of the royal guards

Not kievan-rus, Russian empire, kievan-rus was way before that and in reality kievan-rus was a term from 17th century i think or 16th, that country was just called rus.

What Kievan Rus, crazy? It broke up in 1132. The Battle of Poltava was in 1709 in the Russian Empire. You Western lackeys really need history books, don't you?

    • @huginmunin8253
      @huginmunin8253 ปีที่แล้ว

@@AssassinGoGa it did not break up 1132 it started to lose internal power around that time, it fell under the mongol invasion around 1240

It’s the Russian Empire, the Kievan Rus hadn’t been around for centuries at this point. Kievan Rus was the predecessor to a lot more than Ukraine. The modern Russian nation was founded by Moscovy, which was a Princedom of the Kievan Rus, and it reunited all of the Kievan Rus’ former land, forming Russia, the land of all of the Rus’. Ukraine is the product of foreign Polish-Lithuanian occupation of East Slavic lands.

Guys, there was no Russian Empire in 1709. The official term was "Muscovite Tsardom", it is seen on its coins of that period

I have a hard time with the english version of the album. The only tow songs I know the english lyrics to is Carolus Rex and The Lion From The North. So when I hear the other songs from the english version. I start to sing in swedish and that's very annoying.

Swedish army followed the russians into poltava after beating them in four straight battles but some generals wanted to fall back and wait for the rest of the army and double the manpower and 10 times the canons but Karl XII wanted to crush the russian army and order to pursuit them insted of waiting for the rest and that cost them, then of course Karl XII was injured in the Battle and that cost them also because he was a great leader. But the battle would have happend in poltava anyway because i think Russia also stayed there to fill up the manpower, it was basicly that part of the war where most armies from both sides had to build up the manpower again and rest, and because Sweden lost in poltava the triple alliance and their allies could build up while Sweden had to retreat to ottomans and the leader that Sweden installed in Poland-lithuania lost the power basicly due to Sweden could not really help him so the entire war changed after poltava. The war continued for 12 years after that battle but the triple alliance gained to much of the swedish loss in poltava.
