Love it! It’s so hard to have a favourite character but Russel ‘I feel like I’ve been groomed’ on finding out Hugh’s age, kind of steals it for me.
It’s up there with REV. Underrated brilliant gems of comedy, often overlooked by the majority.

In a world so full of extremes, instant gratification and polarising viewpoints; this series is an amazing tonic and a reminder of how amazing community, simplicity and the UK can be. Would love more series and to be able to immerse myself in this world once more

My husband watches TV while sit in another room and read or watch TH-cam. One night I heard the opening song from the Detectorists coming from the TV. It drew me into the living room like a moth to flame. I saw the beautiful scenes of wildflowers in fields- insects flitting among the blossoms to Jonny Flynn's haunting lyrics and that was all it took to get me hooked. But then I watched the quirky characters and stories unfold and I knew there was genuine love going into this program. I fell in love with every character - including Simon and Garfunkel - lol!
I think the best scene I've ever seen anywhere was when Lance was on the phone leaving a message for his newly found daughter. Him saying goodbye in that sweet, gentle way 😢. Pure gold - the rarest of finds!

when Toby says he loves the shows Humanity, that is exactly it. this series Humanity was absolutely beautiful. and it was so relaced and not over the top, it was a very welcomed change. just made all the better because i can absolutely relate to that desire to discover history and your roots, to uncover the ancestry of your people. it is so moving.

The Detectorists is one of those programmes I'd put on as background viewing with no expectations of being into it, but after 1 episode I was completely hooked. It's like getting into a nice warm bath, it's so funny, light, relaxing and wholesome, and yet manages to be engaging and compelling through its characters without having to be over-dramatic. It's almost its own genre - wholesome, easy-watching, light-comedy-drama. I wish there were more shows like this.

What's not to like about this beautiful British comedy. The casting is spot on, I can't imagine anyone else in the roles of Lance and Andy. It's beautifully written and acted and centre's on a subject which is largely unknown about by the majority of people. The location is sublime and shows of England at it's best.
I want to live in Danebury and join the DMDC and go to the pub and be friends with them all such is the idyllic lifestyle the programme portrays. Please Mackenzie if by chance you ever read this you absolutely have to write a 4th series.
    Pretty please. ❤️

Brilliant portrayal of the detecting community. I used to detect around Framlingham way back in the 80's, working as a PE instructor at a Borstal nearby where the great Irish playwright Brendan Behan used to recite his poems and plays on the stage which we used for weight training! Wonderful peaceful scenery and off the beaten track, with the castle there overlooking everyone and everything. We detector(ists) are SO lucky to have this series all about our escapes into the fields, leaving our worries on the edge of the field and maybe less of them when we return a few hours later. Liam

My Dad and Uncle were Detectorists. I have very fond memories of holidays in my youth, with both men meandering through woods and beauty spots whilst we played and discovered near them. Few interesting finds. And quite a few interesting tales regards their duo missions, one including a witches coven in a private woods! I relished watching this. We need more.

Hard to believe that was first shown in 2014 but I remember the first 10 minutes of first episode I knew I would be in a pretty select niche club by loving it. Instantly (and not because of Mackenzie crook) it kind of threw up the 'office' vibe with its long silent panning but with scenic detail. It's Just different from everything else but I've never heard anyone speak about it so I'm glad it's getting due recognition.

A truly lovely series & thoroughly engrossing. I only recently heard about 'Detectorists' a few weeks ago (I quit watching tv 15+ years ago). At first I was honestly shocked by the swearing as I was thinking of something similar to the Darling Buds Of May (original 1990's series) - I guess it just shows how times have changed (I'm very old fashioned!). It reminds me of those fishing clips on here (Paul Whitehouse & Bob Mortimer) a gentle way of life & pondering in lovely, scenic countryside! I'm sure there will be a new series as Mackenzie is a very talented & creative individual. I've not seen the Christmas special yet but, an idea for series 5: the club all share in the unexpected windfall (or 'tree-fall'!) of those gold coins (after being declared first of course). The land then becomes a historical interest site (solar wind farm banned) which makes headlines across the UK... catching the attention of a certain Tony Robinson (their hero) - who has a 'cunning plan' ... 😀

    I love this series!
I was so happy this time last year when I heard that it might come back for a Xmas special episode!
And a bunch of us watched it on Boxing Day, also very glad he is a Kent boy from Dartford.
I have met him once, and also from that part of Kent right between Dartford/Bexleyheath 😃
Happy Belated New Year everyone 🍾🎆

I've watched the series' about 4 times now. It's lovely gentle humour with no agenda, marvelous (See if anyone can make the connection there)
