Mt Panorama Lap 01 Austin 1800

Leisurely lap around Mt Panorama in my Austin 1800 in company with Bill Stevenson's Mini Cooper S and Sandra and Robert's Mini Sunshine on Sunday 18 August 2013 as part of the 3rd Rylestone Classic Rally.

Wonderful sound from that engine. This clip really reminds me how nicely those 1800s ride and handle - I had a 1967 Mk. I Morris back in the '90s. Super sophisticated for its day, with front-rear anti-lock brakes and that amazing hydraulic suspension. Loved it. Sadly stolen or I'd have kept it until it now I'm sure.

Austin 1800 MK2 best car I ever owned would order one tomorrow if they were made today,always fancied the Wolseley 18/85 with the MGB engine absolutely stunning with its luxury interior and great performance brilliant.

Oh wow is the track open to the public for events.

It's a 60 km/h public road, two way when not used for a race event. Patrolled frequently by the police highway patrol. Very steep in parts and you have to be careful coming down through the cutting and onto 'Conrod Straight'. You get an appreciation of what speed race cars would be doing. Always good fun.

That's a great video. Would love an 1800 with a motor tuned like that. Would be interesting to see a race between your 1800 and an MGB. I think you'd kill an MGB around Mt Panorama.

Is it a Mk1 with horizontal rear lights, or a Mk2 with verical rear lights? Wasn't the Morris a bit more upmarket? I haven't been in an 1800 since 1986.

Greg Murphy must of been a little nervous about his lap record seeing you rock up to Mt Panorama. Your lucky the cops didnt give you a ticket for holding up traffic.

Yes, engine has been modified and tuned by former owner Hans Pedersen. Bored out to 1960cc, Yella Terra Roller Rockers, ported and polished head with custom made exhaust valves, hand made long centre branch stainless steel extractors and free flow exhaust system,light weight pushrods, twin HIF 1.75 inch SU's, MSD multi spark ignition, rod gearchange, oil cooler, auxillary radiator, Davis Craig thermatic fan. Hans makes supercharger kits for A, B and C series engines and same spec extractors but no longer from stainless steel. Many more small mods and improvements too numerous to mention.You can find Hans on the internet at HP Products, he is in Victoria.

Good on you bigcarle, not many 1800's or Marina's could claim to doing a lap around Mt Panorama.
