    Regarding the cost difference between the Lakhta Center and the Burj Khalifa, I think it's safe to say that Russian construction workers in St Petersburg are paid much better than your average laborer in Dubai who is totally there on their own free will

      This is a very cool building in terms of architecture, engineering solutions and ideas. But many native St. Petersburgers believe that this is an absolutely unsuccessful building for our city, because the historical foundation, the view from the historical center and the idea of a flat city, like Amsterdam or Venice, which Peter the Great laid, is collapsing. And as a native, I will partially agree with them, but only partially, because I live opposite this skyscraper and every time I go outside, its appearance generates my imagination

      How about you lean to make the conversion. It’s not tough. 13” per foot instead of 12. Simple. Meters/3 roughly gives you feet. Just add a foot for each remainder… x 1/3 = x+1, x 2/3 = x + 2.

    Was looking online, and looks like they are in the middle of if not finished a second large event space mirroring the one that was first built, along with a Marina. With a new bridge connecting directly to the site. Quite nice compliments, but the spire is very impressive how they seem to have thought of everything in terms of energy, heating'cooling, cleaning, views, the 5 long parallelograms make for nice 'square' floorplans to work on interiors from, and fast elevators for guest, workers, and crew.

    Beautiful design and truly a feat of current digital modeling technology. Wondering why these design choices were made as they are so expensive to execute in St. Petersburg, why not build something practical and cost effective and pass the savings onto the people relying on their energy provider? Don't take this as nihilistic, it's just that a state of the art scientific facility and learning center would have probably benefited from being housed not in a skyscraper but a campus or series of interconnected buildings all on a ground floor. Interested to know other options, if you agree with the design or feel that the form of the building serves a purpose outside of a power symbol for the Russian government at the cost of its citizens.

    • @olfrygt

    • @SerjKorella
      @SerjKorella ปีที่แล้ว

      the fact is that St. Petersburg is a city of cultural and historical heritage, so the construction of new buildings of a certain height is prohibited in St. Petersburg. The Lakhta skyscraper is located far enough from the historical center, but it is still visible from distant points. there were a lot of disputes about this skyscraper, many believed that it would spoil the historical appearance of the city, St. Petersburg is famous for its spires, but the locals did not want to accept the spire of a new modern building, so it was decided to move the skyscraper to another place, even specially made an artificial bulk island in the Gulf of Finland. now the locals treat this skyscraper easier and call it their landmark, but the construction of new skyscrapers will definitely cause public indignation

    Is it an optical illusion or do all five rotating penta-pillars lean out toward the water like a sail? It's very different. The silloette doesn't resemble anything I've seen in either western or middle eastern archetecture. The distance between the Tower and the nearby stadium seems dauntingly unmodern but maybe that's intentional to foster economic development over a larger space.

    • @urbaninternational
