when it comes to trans or gay characters i do not care if the story is good than i do not care. gore and blood shed i believe are ok. facing facts the world is not sun shine and rainbows. it should not be censored that yes bad things happen.
it just comes down to even though i am Nationalist/Conservative as it gets i have bigger things in life than worrying about peoples sexual preferences or pronouns. i just do not deal in it. i would rather put my time into starting a company. and discussing robotics. i find this whole race, gender, gay, trans argument nothing more than a colossal waste of time. science already answered these questions humans have 23 pairs of chromosomes and come in many shapes sizes and shades of brown. and come in 2 genders male and female which produce specific sexual cells required for reproduction known as a Sperm Cell and Egg Cell. and humans are sentient beings and have likes and dislikes. some like girl stuff some like boy stuff. got carried away there but you get the the idea. politics in general is a waste of time.

Call me naive, but I thought that one of the things fantasy fiction was supposed to do was show ideas that haven't been done to death. The only other time I had seen lesbian dragons anywhere before the third arc was in furry fandom art. Sundew and Willow are both consenting adults with three dimensional, likable personalities. Jambu and Pineapple, even though they had a very brief appearance, were MEGA-adorable and likable. (I hope to see those guys in arc 4.)

one thing i wondered about for a while now is why is there such a huge push for representation? i always said that it's up to the writer if they want to have that in their books... that goes for any representation ( culture, beliefs ext... )

    • @IJustAnimateThatsTheJist
      @IJustAnimateThatsTheJist 5 หลายเดือนก่อน

It's because passionate authors like writing about things they haven't written about before. Rewriting the same plots/tropes/characters/etc over and over again sounds very boring and uninspired. (Look at Warriors. The Erins keep writing the same plots within the same universe despite wanting to stop at their first arc because the book publisher wanted more material to sell. You could read any arc and get the same experience due to how similar they are.) That's why you have people exploring new territory when it comes down to writing topics. (I creatively write and it'd bore me if I had to cover the same ground repeatedly.)

Hey I just wanted to say something, and before I do, I am NOT homophobic or transphobic in any way, and I do not condone ANY of this behavior whatsoever.
You made several comments in the video warning that some of these reviews are homophobic and transphobic, however, can’t people just have their opinions? Not everyone supports LGBTQ+, and that’s okay as long as they are not discriminatory or hateful towards people in that category. Parents make decisions based on what they think is best (which is not always right, may I point out) for their children, and I don’t think that should be shunned upon. Now, I took into consideration your comment about sheep and how it is dangerous for someone to mindlessly follow others, in which I totally agree, however, once a child is out from under the roof of their parent’s protection, they make decisions for themselves. By then they will have matured enough to have seen a bit of life and know what to do in situations like these. Parents offer incredible guidance, however, they are not always right, so making decisions firsthand once one reaches adulthood is definitely something that is inevitable. This world has just reached over 8 billion people, and none of them have the same exact worldview.
Anywho, just wanted to make that (small 😂) comment:) Again, I do NOT condone hate or bigotry acts in any way whatsoever I just want to present the other side of the argument ❤❤

The wings of fire book series is one of the things that made me get into books. It was a really good starter for me, enough violence and tension and good characters, I read this book when I was the recommended age. I don’t think 8-9 year olds should read this book series, because the violence can be a bit much for those kids. The LBTGQ theming was the least of my concern in the book. Dark stalker legends was a bit more gruesome, and should be rated 13+ for having to imagine the scene of arctics death, or seeing depictions of it online.
But yes the book series is amazing, I would definitely recommend it to anyone who wants a book that is interesting, but also a bit violent.
Also, I would like to note. I am a Christian, but I already knew about the LBTGQ. I didn’t really care about the relationships or whatever was going on with them. I just cared about what was happening next

Very well done on this video. You reflect good insight and well thought out responses to these reviews. I sensed a trend in some of these reviews that leaned to certain political leanings that are more forced on children than anything in these books have done. For context, i am an almost 50yr mother to a 23yr daughter that got me into the series. This is a great way for children to learn not to judge other relationships, not only those of same sex but also different race, and to be more accepting. Anyone who has to state their "accepting" but shows otherwise like these reviews need to consult a mirror about who they really are. Again, great job on the video!

to speak directly to the two gay relationships I know of that canonically got off the ground Sundew and Willow are fine I didn't even really care at all I just considered to be sundew openly pursuing something that made her happy as for Jambu and Pineapple this pair through me for a loop however in the short segment shown in flame of hope it is clear both of them care deeply and are happy together, which should be the end of it, these show are for kids so how they pleasure themselves isn't a factor towards the plot and is inapproite to even state as a reason, teaching kids that if someone makes you happy persueing them in a kind respectful manner (looking at you Kinkajo and Turtle) is healthy regardless of gender, honestly I don't have an issue with it hell my favourite non-canon ship is Quiter for crying out loud as they seem to just link together very well and that relationship would NEVER get boring Qibli wouldn't allow it.

I feel as if there’s a difference between being homophobic and being in a religion with homophobic views. Whilst personally, I think that’s wrong and pretty disgusting, it would be like going to a Christian and saying there is no god and Jesus isn’t real. Some of these people probably were raised under these types of religions, so I try not to judge unless I know for certain it’s plain Homphobia.

All these reviews where funny. The homophobic ones in a bad way, but it is funny how the parents freak out over a few characters being lgbtqia+, most of them are minor even other then Sundew, that are actually in the books. All the other main characters (minus Sunny, and hopefully she stays that way) ARE in a relationship, or at least implied to be in one, none of the reviewers care unless its Sunlow

I laughed my ass off when I first started the series on audible and saw the reviews from angry parents. The homophobic and bigotry kinda breaks my heart though. Especially when it's a review written by the young reader.
I grew up in the closet and was surrounded by homophobia. I use to be super disappointed when a media I liked had gay characters cause I was scared my parents would forbid it and they usually did if they noticed. It was a bad time. I really feel for the kids of the parents who left these hateful reviews.

    Here's my review
    3/10
Books are way too short, each one needs to be about twice the original length. Sutherland is really good at describing random acts of violence, but (as of the three arcs, if a 4th arc is confirmed) pretty bad at wrapping up those nice subplots. (Remember Sora and Umbra, book six anyone?). Stuck with the plot? Do one of these: murder a random character barely introduced, imprison the main character and/or their companion(s) or divert the reader's attention to a subplot we'll never mention again and that really doesn't affect the story.
Hell, the third arc, aside from Blue and Cricket, was pretty 'meh' overall. (Sundew, your relationship with Willow is adorable, but screw you for A: not trying to save SwordTail, B: yelling at Blue for saving Swordtail, and C: for straightup murdering the Leafwing I won't name for spoilers. No hesitation there eh?)

The book isn't called "WILLOW AND SUNDEW - A LESBIAN DRAGON RELATIONSHIP" People should focus on the other part of the story, ESPECIALLY because the relationship is not explored very much in ANY of the books. The closest we've got so far to a transgender character in the series is Hailstorm/Pyrite. And while I'd love to see that, I doubt it'll be made canon as it would look a lot like "Oh, you're trans because of a traumatic experience" which is kind of a big no-no in terms of minority representation.
There is also the non-binary scavenger in book 15, that Wren has to explain to Sky.

Look, I do think the first one was overreacting a bit, but I don’t think you should be hating on a person for their opinion. You said SPECIFICALLY that people should respect each other’s lifestyles, and yet you are dissing this person for their opinion. I personally didn’t like the fact that there were gay characters in this series when I read this as a kid, NOT because I was being sheltered from it by my parents, but because I just didn’t like the sudden burst of gay characters in the third arc. I don’t agree with that lifestyle, but I do respect those who live that way.
