The problem is you used contact cleaner when you need contact cleaner LUBRICANT for pots and faders. Using a straight cleaner burns the contact tracks. Glad you found a solution though.
Mark did you find the pots on this harness to be "loose" compared to the OEM pots. I did the same install on a jazz bass and found the factory pots to have a smoother feel when turning them. These are clean and made a pickup swap very easy, however I find the pots turn very easily and have a less premium feel than the ones I removed. Just seeing if you experienced the same with yours and if its just the nature of the CTS pots used in the Obsidian kit.
Hi Mike, yes I did find the Obsidian pots a little looser. They actually didn’t take long to get a little scratchy too. I ended up removing this wiring kit from my P Bass after the bass stopped working on a gig. I think the little spring connectors on the Obsidian kit inside were maybe not making a reliable contact with at least one wire. I installed standard P Bass CTS pots, Soundcraft jack and an Orange capacitor and soldered it up the old fashioned way. More peace of mind for me with that tried and true wiring.
I have found that the PBass circuit can make in-circuit noise while passing signal that does not happen when there's no signal, the pots will be dead quiet when the bass is quiet. It's always confounded me.

Great video. Hopefully your crackling has gone away after the installation!

Can something similar be got to suit a p/j bass?

Hi, very cool test, i’m a same kit pbass 58’s, what’s your flat strings name ? Thanks
They are Sadowsky Black label flats. Really nice vintage tone.
Thank you very much
is that bass refinished in nitro?
@@StephenDikken I don’t think so. It’s a 2009 American Standard P, so it’s probably polyurethane.
@@markhughesbass4360 oh cool, do you know the colour? wondering if its Olympic white
@@StephenDikken Yes it's Olympic White, the original finish. Its yellowed quite a lot over the years.
