    What did you do with the ground wire from the bridge?

    I have two Obsidian harnesses in p-basses and they sound awesome. I can swap pickups super easy.

    Ive got additional bare wire grounds for each pickup. Classic Vibe 70s Jazz bass 5 string. Where do they go? The ground post?

      Same situation did you resolve?

    I recently installed this into my jazz bass along with new Duncan pickups. The install was simpe and smooth. I have only one question for any that have used these harnesses. I noticed after install that the pots for my pu volume have much less resistance when turning. Another words they turn very easily and have a much "looser" feeling than the original pots I removed. Is this just the nature of the CTS pots? The effort to turn the oem pots had a more "premium" feel when turning. Hope this makes sense as I don't believe there is a way to change the characteristics of the pots and how they turn. Just making sure this is the way these harnesses are. Thanks in advance for any feedback or replies.

    I see there is 6 hole... 4 goes to hot and ground for each pickup...
    My question is where do you go...cable from shielding under the bridge and the cable if you shielding the cavity too...
    Sorry for my bad english...

    Obsidian has a 250k and 500k kit for the jazz bass. Which one did you get?

    I wonder what you did with the existing copper plates under the pickup they are usually soldered to the pots.

    I notice 6 "slots" on the kit, where does the ground wire go?

    • @TheMlvswoll
      @TheMlvswoll 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      The ground has its own separate spot where you feed the wire in and tighten down a small flathead screw to secure it.

    Do you need to ground the control cavity with shielding tape first? Or is this Obsidian unit already grounded?

    Does this work with dimarzio jazz bass pickups? (They have 4 wires for each pickup rather than 2)

    Is solderless really reliable? What's wrong with soldering a few tips? I don't trust it honestly

      I've been working on guitars and basses since 2 days after I received my first guitar, a Kramer Focus 4000 for a birthday 32 years ago , and I replaced the stock pickups, first with Dimarzios, and then 2 weeks later with Seymour Duncans.
      I've been working on them every week ever since, and have been building handmade custom guitars and basses for over 25 years. This is just my opinion, but I am absolutely a fan and a believer in the solderless connections that I have used.
      I have been using the EMG solderless System since shortly after it came on the market and I have never had a single complaint, nor have I had an instrument come back for repairs on the electronics. Not one. There is absolutely nothing wrong with them.
      As for the solderless electronics that I have tried, and I have tried several brand offerings besides just the EMG, and aside from minor issues that the manufacturers to have since corrected, I would have no apprehension in utilizing a solderess system that I perform

    Did you install new pickups as well? If you used the existing pickups, did you have to de-solder them from their original pots? Thanks.

      Not OP, but what you do is clip the wire at the end and the strip off a few CMs. Super Easy.

      I'd say it sounds great. Tons of clarity, no treble loss or pot crackling when turning the volume down and has reliable grounding. I have these on most of my own basses (several Jazz Basses and a couple of Precision Basses as well).

    Did the upgrade change the sound at all, or does it just offer a wider range of tone sculpting options?

    • @TheBassChannel
      @TheBassChannel  5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Essentially, these are high-quality CTS pots that are solderless. It’s a great upgrade if you have a bass with cheap, low-quality pots and/or you want to be able to change pickups quickly and easily. It doesn’t necessarily give you more tonal options because it’s still passive volumes and tone.

    • @TheMlvswoll
      @TheMlvswoll 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I have used this kit in two Jazz basses now. It doesn’t change the tone however my bass sounds cleaner if that makes sense. Better components, cleaner signal. I do notice more variation from full tone to tone rolled off than my oem fender jazz controls.

    I generally don't trust solderless stuff. If I were going to use one of these for some reason, I'd probably at least tin the ends of the wires so they hold together better. EMG's are pretty reliable, to be fair, but that's also a different style of solderless connectors.

    • @TheMlvswoll
      @TheMlvswoll 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Wires fit the harness snug. I initially tinned the tips of my
      Pup wires but it was harder to fit them in the slots. I ended up trimming off the tips and twisting the wire tightly and they fit in very snug. Hadn’t touched them since and everything works great.

    I've contacted this company and asked what about a Active pickups , they never responded on were the wiring would go

    • @jaxonvictoria4345
      @jaxonvictoria4345 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Nick Maresca for active pickups the pots would have to be between 25 to 100k. I think Obsidian Wire only supplies pots for passive pickups.

    • @ChazJazzNY
      @ChazJazzNY 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Sorry what I meant was the P bass one did not show how it was wired. Why I say this is because on their diagram the P bass had four slots... 1 spare grn, 2 string grn, 3 bridge grn and 4 bridge hot.... Sorry didn't know what a spare grn wire is or a bridge hot. It just would had been clearer where each wire went to help some of us who know very little of the electronics and it would had been a good teaching video.

    Am I the only one that notices dubbing in the latest videos oth TBC's? (especially in "Heey everybody" part - this looks as if sound was a bit out of time with the video. And the way this is being recorded to sound like old Andy's vids from PGS?)

    This Guy shows how not to change the controls in a terrible way. Look at the finish on the body when he has completed the change. Scratches all over the body of the Bass which I would not be happy with. How are these idiots allowed to post something like this which is completely wrong......Crazy!

    • @oldbridgemaker2094
      @oldbridgemaker2094 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Good catch - and I would like to point out that the scratches are in his amateur finish job, NOT the Fender factory finish, which is practically indestructible. I always cringe when people mess with Fender's finish. Trust me, you will never duplicate the quality of their finish.
