    I picked up the BA UL1 bike pack version for 10 day tour on Sunshine Coast of B.C. What an amazing tent! Packed up super small and really easy to set up. Loved the pockets to stow my glasses so those didn’t get crushed and easily located.Pegs were great and didn’t twist around in the ground. Everything is colour coded so poles, tent, fly and ground sheet were easy to get orientation right... like no guessing! Perfect for when you pull up close to dark and need to setup fast (dwindling light ) v. Happy! Thanks for the vid.
    Your earlier vid explaining “stuff to pack” really, really helped me decide what I should take!!! Fantastic!

    I have the OG one, it’s held up for over 5 years of mostly backpacking. Now I’m using it on the bike. I wish I had the shorter poles, but mine fit in my frame bag, so it’s all good.

    BA hiker models have really sheer stuff bags. My bike packing tent is a trekking pole type, but I picked up carbon poles to use. It will be crowded if you get stuck in weather. Bring trash bags for the gear left out side. Great real world unboxing and deployment.

    I had a feeling this was the tent you were looking at, though I was surprised you chose the 2p at first. I bought the standard copper spur in a 1p with the last 20% off coupon, I realized I didn't need the extra room just for myself in a 2p.
    I think I'm probably going to use this month's coupon to get a footprint. I tried the sheet of plastic route, and I think I'd rather have the attachments and the option to quick pitch. The footprints are pricey compared to a sheet of plastic, but the extra options would be nice.

    • @radbikeadventure
      @radbikeadventure  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes exactly what we’re thinking. Since it will just be us we were willing to trade the extra space for lighter more compact setup. Especially if we’ll be doing more backcountry camping. We’ll also have less gear than we did on the big trip so think we’ll be ok w less space inside! Time to get cozy lol

    Im deciding between this bike version tent & the non-bike version. Copper Spur UL2.
    (I know that Big Agnus makes a UL1 but that’s a bit claustrophobic for me.)
    I want to do some bike packing but I also (mostly) go hiking.
    I love how small this one packs down to but it’s heavier than the non-bike version + it’s more expensive.
    But do you think the NON-bike version would still work well for bike packing though?
    If you think the bike version tent is the way to go for both biking & hiking then I would go with that and pay the extra $$ and take the hit for the added weight.
    Would love your opinion on that.

This will be the go-to bikepacking tent for now and a main reason is yes, it’s smaller and lighter. If we bring the dogs we can use the 3-person one (although we’ve also been looking into get a Tarptent for that purpose in the future). You will LOVE the 3 person version. Such a great tent

    If you are going for durability then choose a Hilleberg.
    Not an Ultra Lightweight tent by any means but it is a beast of a tent, especially in adverse weather.
    The Copper Spur is no doubt a nice tent for the majority of bike tourers but I need to go for a more robust design considering I live and tour in Iceland and I have seen way too many UL tents being blown away, broken poles, ripped flysheets and also people coming out of their tents almost shaking their clothes off because they were so cold and their inner tent consisting almost entirely of mesh with almost no insulation properties.
    The tent and the rest of the equipment you tour with needs to reflect the climate you are in.
    I am also much more inclined to chose a tent that enables you to pitch it all in one, rather than pitching it in two goes. Especially if you need to pitch the inner tent first and the drape the flysheet over it. Being able to pitch a tent with the inner tent shielded from the elements with the flysheet from the get go is invaluable when it is pitching it down with rain. Keeps the inner tent much drier and enables a very fast pitch so you get a sturdy shelter raised much quicker.
    But again, the Copper Spur might suit the needs for many who are touring in a bit calmer weather than what we get here in Iceland.
    Hope you get plenty of use out of it and can't wait to see it in action...

  • @JoshKablack

    I guarantee you that I could mess that color co-ordination up. Pitching in a hurry in fading light while exhausted from high mileage days has led to all sorts of idiot mistakes.

    Their 2 man tent is definitely the one I would buy i don't need the back packing 1 as such but would get the other 2 man HvUL ,tho I must admit for the extra weight the 3 man is not out of the question for me and my dog tofu , I just wish they would put a proper floor in them after all when you are supposed to need a groundsheet to save the floor why not just make the floor better to start with, it's a bit of a gimmick, and a expensive gimmick to that you need to pay for just make it that way to start with.

    • @radbikeadventure
      @radbikeadventure  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      3 person is night if you’re looking for a roomier, more livable tent. We loved ours for the round the world tour. Yea not sure but guessing it’s insurance that your tent floor doesn’t get torn up. Even thicker material is subject to that 🤷
