While not quite the same, in Still Wakes the Deep, you're playing as an electrician, and there's an achievement called "Not so good with the leccy" which you earn by dying to every electrical hazard in the game
In Wasteland 2 when you unlock the Rangers base you can visit their museum where they have fully functional nuclear bomb on display. Of course you can arm it and detonate it upon which you will get achievement "What does this button do?" and game over screen.
“If They Came To Hear Me Beg” is an achievment you get in Halo: Reach for killing yourself fifty times in the same way on the same level right at the start for no reason.
I wish American Truck Simulator had that same achievement. I'd have gotten it during the Cruising Arkansas event; there's an unmarked railroad crossing that has active trains on it and...well...I wasn't paying attention...
Those things are more deathly then they look at first glance. I personally embed the tracks in walls and build save crossways with a train signal, a signal wire and a automated door. (Green Signal is safe, use combinator for multible tracks).
The moment I saw the title for this video I immediately remembered an in game achievement for a shinobi/ninja gaiden like game for the DS (can't remember the actual title). It was a tough as nails ninja game like the classic ninja gaidens (if you played on normal or higher difficulty that is, there was an achievement that mocked you for beating the game on easy) and had an achievement for dying 110 times. Can't remember the name of the achievement but I still remember the description for it: A man has but one life to live, a cat has nine and a ninja has one hundred. You lost them all.
Way back before achievements were really a thing, Goldeneye had the "Lemming Award" for most suicides in a multiplayer match. These weren't a matter of public record, but they still hurt.
In World of Warcraft, you can inspect another player's character to see how many times they've died by drowning or falling off the elevator in Blackwing Descent.
In the early Zelda games you used to have a number next to your save file, it took me a while to realise it was your number of deaths because my mate was trying to convince me it was a score as his was over 900.
My first Souls gams was DS 2. The first time I played I sat through the long opening cutscene and did what I always do in games - I turned around to see what was behind me. I took two steps and fell into the void. Two steps into my first Souls game. That seems about right. I think I made it at least seven steps the second time.
One for the inevitable Commenter Edition: "Touchdown!" (Fallout 4). Die from a Super Mutant Suicider detonating a nuclear bomb in your face. Some small consolation for the utterly terrifying sound that is the ever-faster beep....beep....beepbeepbeepbeepBOOOOOM! of one of those muties approaching!
How about "Valiant Sacrifice..." from Darkest Dungeon? You not only lose an entire team of heroes in the end game stage where it hurts more, but also get mocked in the process.
An achievement can be as mean as it likes, as long as there's a good pun in there. Or a bad pun. There's not much difference between the two if we're honest. The only trophies I resent are the ones that just flatly describe what took place: *THING DONE* _You did thing_
Not an achievement per se, but special shout out to the Borderlands 2 mission “Kill Yourself”. Like it says, Handsome Jack will pay you to kill yourself. You can choose not to do it, for less rewards. Or you can do it, get your loot, and be called a b*tch. Good times
There is one in BO3 too. Iirc the gun (super fan or smth?) was actually pretty decent. Somewhat sad to find as a random loot drop later, but all the more ironic for it :)
Outer Wilds has "Gone in 60 Seconds" for dying within one minute of waking up. Fortunately or unfortunately, there are multiple ways to "earn" this dubious achievement. For example, you could stand in a campfire, walk off the edge of a launch tower, jump into a geyser and drown, exit your craft without your suit, or perhaps just fly your ramshackle spaceship straight into the sun.
What about in New Tales from the Borderlands? The achievement is called Tale in the Toilet. You get it from dying the first time. If you're lucky, you can get that at the same time as the Totally Intentional achievement. Which you get from failing an action for the first time.
In the Indie title "Moonlighter" you collect items in a roguelite dungeon, and I was feeling a little confident and greedy and wanted to continue stacking some of the base items (because the game gimmick is you sell things you find in your shop) and I proceeded to suck and die, lose everything, and get the achievement: "There is no Avarice without Penalty" Okay Game! You don't need to rub it in!
Surprised none are from the dying insert amount of times gets you the achievement list. Like Alien: Isolation or Hotline Miami 😮 Those literally mock you for the amount of times you died to pop them
If you read the achievement list for Solus Project, there arw several that tell you to do stuff that will likely kill you. Like Skydiver: Fall for at least 5 seconds to your death.
Slime Rancher has the achievement “Not My Morning” for being “knocked out” before the clock hits 10 AM - which, considering how safe the immediate vicinity of the ranch is, probably means you did something pretty stupid
Pathologc 2 is another good one. Mark Immortel mocking you every time you die, the cancer of the town getting worse, and the game eventually offering you an easy mode, with a terrible price.
I remember getting the "Get Used To It" achievement. I was dumb enough to jump right in front of Neptune before electrocuting him. Literally killed by a shark with no water
I remember “Grinding the Crack” from Battlefield 3 was a funny achievement, for a few days you saw players jumping off a tower before actually starting to engage other players… for an achievement.
The first time I played dark souls I played a faith based character, a paladin if you will. Imagine my frustration when I reached kalameet and my attacks deal 20-50 damage on a boss with 5400hp 😢 I hear you Ellen
I got the get used to it trophy for the Resident Evil HD remaster while I was going for the Ink is for Squids trophy which is given for beating the game without saving. I got ran over by a boulder in the caves where you fight the Black Tiger boss.
Alien: Isolation has an achievement for dying to the xenomorph 100 times. I’m surprised it wasn’t mentioned, since Creative Assembly said they were planning making the sequel after 10 years.
2:53 I was going through a strange phase and decided to challenge myself to punching the ogre in the starting area to death with my level 1 no class character. Took the better part of a day, when I stopped dying.
Not an achievement, since there aren’t any in the game, but when the last sim in your household dies in sims 2 you get a message. If they died a peaceful death by old age, you’d get some fun facts about grim reaper. But if they died in a bad way, say because you took away the pool ladder, you’d get a message telling you this isn’t really how the game should be played, given that it’s a life simulator and not a death simulator.
The more ways a game has for people to die, the more I think that's the goal of the game. Detroit has an achievement for Connor dying 8 times in one run (and there are over 30 ways for Connor to die, 10 possible in a single run).
I really thought Shadow of Mordor/War would be on the list, but I don't know if you actually get an achievement for it, or just brutally mocked by the orc/olog that killed you (both when he kills you, and when you meet him again).
Technically, there is an achievement for getting some nobody orc promoted as far as he can go, then killing him. That requires you to die to the same orc multiple times. I got that achievement on purpose, and this guy became my nemesis across both games, refusing to die for good and becoming about 90 percent rough metal prosthetics.
What about Gunfire Reborn? That game's achievement list has a good chunk of them being various ways you can get killed. Seriously, there's an achievement in that game for pretty much every way you can get killed
You all hear this a lot I'm sure, but I've had quite the series of horrible life changing events lately, and being able to look forward to this videos has been a definite bright point.
There's a good one in Saints Row 4 and I think there's a similar one in Portal (possibly Portal 2?) where the bad guy promises to up ndo their evil deeds if you kill yourself but both times it is a lie. Spoiler warning.
Well, it’s not an achievement because it predates achievements, but I do seem to remember Metal Gear Solid literally calling you an idiot if you get yourself blown up during the first boss fight
In the recent Romancing SaGa 2: Revenge of the Seven there is a innocent looking achievement "Going Back to Ludon", how do you get it? You guessed it go to Ludon Highlands and die.
The RE remake certainly looks a lot better, but the rewritten dialogues and redone voice acting takes away a lot of the B-movie charm. It's just not the same without the "Jill sandwich"
Try 7 days to die. Series of achievements that track how many times you died. Pro players will get all other achievements first then decide to start dying when they are ready lol
I had way more trouble with midir than I did with kalameet. Midir had me stuck for months the first time I beat him. Then I washed him first try with my strength/faith build 🤷🏿♂️🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
Six? SIX!?!?!?! Is life even worth living?
Only patrons get the 7th.
I see what you did there 😏
7 died and we are mocking it
7 8 9, and 7 got food poisoning and died.
Only if we're counting mainline Persona games.
I thought people would hate the "would you like to switch to assisted mode?" question in Resident Evil games more than an achievement pop up
“Git good and learn what the 180 degree turn is” is what Capcom should tell em.
There’s at least two in Portal 2 that I can think of, one of which is falling for Wheatley’s “could you pretty please just jump into the pit?”
Is that at the part where you die?
@@LazzyVamples it's the part where he kills you
"Oh! Wow! Good! I did not think that was going to work."

I wonder if that is a reference to Dexter's laboratory?
“If They Came To Hear Me Beg” is an achievment you get in Halo: Reach for killing yourself fifty times in the same way on the same level right at the start for no reason.
that sounds more tedious than embarrassing
@@kay_faradayThere’s a punchline you’re not getting. Look up the achievment.
@@Leith_Crowther Ah.
tbh took me a bit to figure out because i didn't know where to look.
Fond memories of me and three buddies all on voice trying to get this on over and over for hours lol.
Weird trolling on such an old game...
Factorio gives you the "Watch your step" achievement after you get run over by one of your own locomotives
I wish American Truck Simulator had that same achievement. I'd have gotten it during the Cruising Arkansas event; there's an unmarked railroad crossing that has active trains on it and...well...I wasn't paying attention...

Mostly Harmless and Most Cowardly as honorable mentions. Salt in the wounds.
How about Prey, for jumping into the helicopter blades 30 seconds in?
In World of Warcraft, you can inspect another player's character to see how many times they've died by drowning or falling off the elevator in Blackwing Descent.
In the early Zelda games you used to have a number next to your save file, it took me a while to realise it was your number of deaths because my mate was trying to convince me it was a score as his was over 900.
@ Ahahaha that's awesome
I get most of these kinds of achievements. Some say it's because I'm rubbish. I just think I'm a collector.
What a fine profile picture you have! Always good to see a fellow jiub appreciator
My first Souls gams was DS 2. The first time I played I sat through the long opening cutscene and did what I always do in games - I turned around to see what was behind me. I took two steps and fell into the void. Two steps into my first Souls game. That seems about right. I think I made it at least seven steps the second time.
I must have died more than forty times in the tutorial area of DS3 before starting to "get" the gameplay.
Joke's on them, the dead can't hear you mock.

I came here to say this, but knew in my heart it had already been said.
@@philiphunn194 Look into your heart. You know it to be true. I am your comment ninja.
Ready or Not gives you an achievement called "the Fool" if you get killed by a civilian NPC. Not even sure how that's possible though

And the "don't do it" involves calling the suicide hotline lol
I think I looked at the loot and did it.
There is one in BO3 too. Iirc the gun (super fan or smth?) was actually pretty decent.
Somewhat sad to find as a random loot drop later, but all the more ironic for it :)
I was fully expecting Andy to be the one for 50 Cent: Blood on the Sand.
Mocking me for that time I died in a video game?
Which one? I've been at this for a long time now and it has been a lot. Like, a lot, a lot. XD
That 50 cent game is surprisingly good ngl
...I mean, there is a quick turn for Resident Evil. You just flick the right analog stick.
In robo quest, there is an achievement that states. "It's gonna be a looong journey." Dying in the first area of this rogue like first person shooter.
In the first Devil May Cry, dying enough times in the same level unlocks easy mode. Now that’s insulting
I guess the 7th achievement was too mean for TH-cam...
6 is definitely below average.
What about in New Tales from the Borderlands? The achievement is called Tale in the Toilet. You get it from dying the first time. If you're lucky, you can get that at the same time as the Totally Intentional achievement. Which you get from failing an action for the first time.

Is it better to get 100% of achievements or 100%-1 achievements and never dying?
It's a shame. The only thing keeping me from platinum is that Dark Souls 2 trophy. 😢
We need another isometric Lara Croft game, dangit!

My favourite part about death stranding was seeing all the alternate colts, those were always fun
I remember “Grinding the Crack” from Battlefield 3 was a funny achievement, for a few days you saw players jumping off a tower before actually starting to engage other players… for an achievement.
“Rock hard bosses?” Sounds like an HR problem?!😜

The more ways a game has for people to die, the more I think that's the goal of the game. Detroit has an achievement for Connor dying 8 times in one run (and there are over 30 ways for Connor to die, 10 possible in a single run).
Man. Now I have to change my video suggestions to "6 Things." You guys are slick.
Luke took the 7th entry with him
That achievement and the death counter shows that the new team didn't get what Dark Souls was all about
What's worse is that in order to get the trophy for those games you have to get these ones too.
I really thought Shadow of Mordor/War would be on the list, but I don't know if you actually get an achievement for it, or just brutally mocked by the orc/olog that killed you (both when he kills you, and when you meet him again).

What about Gunfire Reborn? That game's achievement list has a good chunk of them being various ways you can get killed. Seriously, there's an achievement in that game for pretty much every way you can get killed
Fun fact, “Eternal Return” is the name of the title song of Dragon’s Dogma: Dark Arisen.

Fallout 4: The "Touchdown!" achievement is earned for getting blown up by a Super Mutant Suicider.

Metro: Last Light have an achievement called Diver you get for drowning in a swamp 10 times. I know this because I got it.
Did you know that most people freeze to death in swamps instead of drowning?
When games have achievements like these I try to earn as many as I can before they pop. You know for some semblance of gamer pride.
The dead cells achievement for getting crushed to death by an elevator (which only you can activate) is pretty disheartening.
So if you're making videos with spiders included in the footage. Does Ellen get a pass on editing?
I get the feeling this whole video exists solely to show that reaction from Ellen again.

In the recent Romancing SaGa 2: Revenge of the Seven there is a innocent looking achievement "Going Back to Ludon", how do you get it? You guessed it go to Ludon Highlands and die.
You sure the 0G for "Not Bulletproof" isn't a reference or in-joke to the term OG?
i died to get the achievement to 100% the game, that's my story and i'm sticking to it
The RE remake certainly looks a lot better, but the rewritten dialogues and redone voice acting takes away a lot of the B-movie charm. It's just not the same without the "Jill sandwich"

I'm still waiting for somebody to make "dark souls 2 but every time I die I create a new account and buy the game again"
Try 7 days to die. Series of achievements that track how many times you died. Pro players will get all other achievements first then decide to start dying when they are ready lol

there is an achievement in the indie game barony that you get for dying in the tutorial of all things
Not an achievement, but same vibes as games that remind you about the adjustable difficulty when you keep dying in one spot.
What about saint row 4 when you can die for safe human life?
This is why I didn't play none of them
You really need a trigger warning for Blighttown footage you guys.
What about hitman freelancer
Not even one of the arkham games ones
I don't believe you get actual failure-related achievements in the series
