    Dan - your video just saved me! We use our 2012 Odyssey to tow our 17 ft boat. Great day on the lake. As soon as we pulled the boat out, and made it 1/4 mile down the road, everything started shaking and shimmying. Thought it was trailer brakes at first. Dropped the trailer and drove the van for a bit, and learned something wasn’t right in the back right wheel. Messed with the caliper, wasn’t the problem. It was just locking up. But I didn’t know enough about how the brakes were set up to go further. No cell signal to try Google or check TH-cam. The amazing camp park manager who was helping try to figure things out actually also gave the family a ride home. As soon as I was home, I found signal, and your video. It so perfectly explains how the brakes work that I knew right away it was the parking brake locking up, and how to fix it. In the face of an oncoming thunderstorm, my wife and I rushed back, found and backed off the star wheel adjuster, hooked up the boat, and dashed home. Just as we got it covered in the driveway, started pouring. It was an adventure! Now I’ll go back and do a full brake job (it needs it), using your instructions. Can’t wait. Thanks for a fantastic video, with such clear direction and camera work. Can’t beat high quality information!

      Glad I could help. While this video doesn't cover actually replacing the parking brake components, I would recommend taking a look at the video Eric The Car Guy made on that subject.

    Saw your tape on auto paint experiment on your website. I'm going to mount a sem-flexible panel to my vehicle on top of some polycarbonate using gaffer tape. Really appreciated your test mate, I'll stick around.

    Great video...Question: Do you engage the parking braking before removing the tire?

      I loosen the lug nuts while the car is on the ground, then remove them fully once it's up on jack stands. You shouldn't have to engage the parking brake.

    Great video - I know when to replace regular brakes, but I don’t know the indicators to adjust or replace the parking brake. Can you briefly explain?

      Except for when you have the rotor off, you pretty much just have to go by whether the parking brake is working well and if it sounds like it's metal-on-metal.

    Hey my friend for drilled rotors in which direction are they placed?

      What I've heard is that the part of the slot that is at the outside of the rotors is what should contact the pads first, not the inside, so a left side rotor would have the slot at \ angle.

    Do you know the torque values for the bolts?

    • @MechanicalMalarkey
      @MechanicalMalarkey  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      65 lb ft for the caliper bracket bolts, 25 lb ft for the caliper bolts

    Title is a little misleading. You didn't replace the "internal parking brake" shoes. I'm getting ready to replace rotors and pads on all 4 wheels and decided to replace the parking brake shoes while I've got the rear drums off. This helps for part of the job, but obviously didn't help with the shoe replacement. You might want to modify the title, but thanks for making the video.
