  • The Ghillies Ball is held annually ever since Queen Victoria started the tradition in 1852 at Balmoral Castle, Scotland.
Here, we see the wonderful Scottish Eightsome Reel dance being performed by members of the Royal Family and others in the Great Ballroom at Balmoral in 1990. The Queen loves Scottish dancing and hosts an annual dance, known as Ghillies Ball, for her neighbours, estate and castle staff during her summer stay at Balmoral, Aberdeenshire.
In much happier times, it must be said, the participants include:
    HM The Queen
    Queen Elizabeth, the Queen Mother
    Prince Philip
    Prince Charles
    Diana, Princess of Wales
    Prince Andrew
    Princess Anne

It seems so strange to think this way, but I keep thinking she died young because her mother lived to be nearly 102!

I cant believe I was so shocked when she died. She had earned her rest at 96. She got us Brits through Covid.

Happier times for the royal family, and the comments about why the younger generation finding the 'regimented' life difficult, and also what you can do if you have been properly trained (which some of them evidently have *not* been) I find particularly relevant to the situation, today.

@@AntPDC If they don't play by the rules, they can't expect to be part of the game, with all its advantages and drawbacks.
It's not a life which I would choose, but, viewed as a job - and one with considerable 'perks' - there are much worse possibilities.
The likes of 'prince' Harry and his wife will bring an end to the monarchy, if anything will. The man is not the brightest bulb in the box - not his fault, of course - but he should have had more sense than to take up with the likes of M. M.

@@Offshoreorganbuilder You overstate, by far, the influence of a pair of narcissists who, increasingly - even among Americans in thrall of the likes of the repulsive Oprah Winfrey - are beginning to wake up to what they really are: a C-rated, yet ever-ambitious ambitious actress and an impressionable royal damaged by his mother's tragic life. The institution of the Monarchy is infinitely stronger than you suppose simply because most sensible people realise that it is the least worst system of governance.

I was wondering what speculation one could make of the fact that Diana is not dancing with the members of the royal family but with other people. Who knows? Perhaps the fact that Charles and Diana were having a bad relation by that time has to do with them dancing in different groups here. What do you think?

“Why do people constantly try new things and change jobs?” What a stupid statement, from a person I thought was intelligent.
Well, because you are the only person lucky enough to be born into this extreme privilege and don’t have the risk of being fired or struggling at a low paid job.

Was Queen Elizabeth lucky? It was a 365 days and 24 hours a day job for her, many wouldn't want that. She could hardly abdicate. She was anointed at her Coronation. You can talk freely as we all may..
