OMG, I am from a small village in central Scotland and had to so this type of dancing (ceilidh) for gym class, it was really fun, better than cross country running for sure.
The whole village would meet at the community centre on the weekends and we would all dance together.
I left my village when I was 13 in 2003 so I am not sure if they still do country dancing in 2022.
They still do. Was in Gairloch last year, visiting family and the ceilidh shindigs are back in business!
I recommend to keep the Scottish pastimes of drinking whiskey and dancing apart from each other. Thought I'd pass out and get dragged along at one point. 😂
0:45 definitely prince philip material
Im going to hell for this admission buuut...my grandfather (hungarian, married to an austrian debutante from money who was formerly engaged to a baron) met prince philip and called the brf a bunch of racist inbred hicks, prince philip worst among them.
I love this whole scene because John is beginning to see how screwed up this whole institution is. And how close it is to all detonating.
It’s pure fiction. The traditions at Balmoral are like any well thought out Scottish clan wedding in Scotland. They just did this schtick when they were up there . Plus reversal balls are a thing in the upper class society on estates all through Europe. That said they died down by the 80’s.
@@Corgipon Not all fiction, it's based on real events with certain things being twist for entertainment. The dialogues are mostly false except few short scenes of Diana who spoke out against the monarch.
He is like, "I am going to declare a republic, as soon as I get back to London."
0:40 & 1:25 In her 90s, the Queen Mother has evolved to be a "tell it like it is" elderly family matriach like the Dowager Countess of Grantham 😊
every TV series needs a truth teller to help convey information to the audience
This family doesn't have the beats on while BBQing. Nope. They bust out in full-mode Scottish dancing instead.😂 Then, Margaret starts talking about some ball Queen Victoria had like people actually care.
John correcting her on Saturnalia was based af. Basically telling the decadent monarchs they aren't as above the commoners as they think they are.
He wasn’t correcting her, she didn’t say anything wrong. She just gave a quick and generalized explanation of the ball, and he gave an elaborated and poetic explanation behind the meaning of the ball. She said that it is done as a thank you to the servants, while he said that for a night the masters serve the servants. Both answers are correct.
Interesting scene
Queen Mum was very poorly cast! For such a minor role, they surely could have found the right body type at least!
And why does Philip need to be so angry all the time??
Yes! She was a powerhouse, even in her old age. The show does not capture that
Because the High Sparrow is righteous... even playing himself in this series
It simply illustrates that Scotland the colony is treated like a playground for
can someone tell me the name of the song that is used on these scene???
0:34 duchess of york is holding prince herry❤
Does the Prime Minister not have to bow to the Queen Mother?
If they already met on the day he would have bowed already, this means he doesn't need to bow a second time - you only bow on the first meeting of the day
@@jdnetwork-reselling I was trying to determine if it was that or a continuity glitch. I noticed his wife bowed but not him. Guess it’s just easily implied they met earlier.
I love how everyone but the queen mother didn’t bow to queen elizibeth
The Queen Mother was "Her Majesty" and exempt from the courtesy - those of peer social standing do not show social deference to each other. HRH does not bow or curtsy to HRH or below - only to HM. HM does not bow or curtsey to anyone. The Queen Mother and Queen Mary curtsied when Elizabeth II became Queen to show support for the new sovereign; that first and singular instance was an aberration formed of personal affection and respect, not of requirement. The same for Queen Camilla's curtsy to King Charles III upon his coronation. That was a one-off.
@@invisible.fatman also did phillip curtesy to queen Mary, queen elizibeth the queen mother and his wife?
A Majesty never bows tp another Majesty…. Regent or Consort, your title is still H.M.
@@hareshgill8994I think Philip never curtseyed to her wife or her mother-in-law. I can’t imagine that 😂 you mean a bow? Yes he always did it to both of them, as far as I know :)
So beautiful ❤🇭🇳👍
I need to stop watching all these clips, by the time I watch it on Netflix I will have already seen all of Season 5.
what music is this
It’s a pity Major didn’t have the balls to say to Phil the Greek if Britannia means that much, how about you pay for its upkeep? Though it was amusing how he put Margaret back in her box.
because then it wouldn't be the royal yacht and would lose its symbolism and value
@@MsJubjubbird If the Royals paid for the upkeep it wouldn’t be the Royal yacht? How?
@@iangascoigne8231 because it becomes a private vessel then, rather than a vessel of State.
@@MsJubjubbird Well since no one other than them sailed on it you could say it already was that. So let them pay for it.
@@iangascoigne8231 they would have state visits and things on it. The idea is it is a symbol of the state, paid for by the state. Just like the castles, carriages and security staff. Otherwise it's just like a private vessel and doesn't serve its purpose. The queen didn't want it to go for a sail. She wanted to keep it because of its significance.
Do you really think that a president is better than a limited monarchy ? Monarchy is the face of the country
Yes it is, President are elected by the people and neither are seen as subjects. Presidents represents the people not automatically given birth right to rule all because they're born in family who claims to be superior.
@@BiG-JuPO1O1 лучше парламентская монархия , с выборным премьером, чем диктатор президент
And? President is also the face of the country and you're able to vote for him or her? The monarchy? It's obsolete, it's basically a bunch of clowns pretending to better that who actually work.
@@Ssss-kb9kl Dictator President? You mean countries like China and Russia who are dictators and claim themselves as President then yes. You can say the samething about Thailand royal tyrants that nobody supported any longer because it's outdated system not elected by the PEOPLE.

Prince Philip was a miscast
I mean, I actually love the actor. Pirates of the Caribbean, Stigmata, Carrington, The Wife, The Two Popes ... Jonathan Pryce is an English treasure. But Pryce as the charismatic, quick-witted, uncensored and often slightly impatient Prince Philip just doesn't work, at all. His significant mannerisms, his voice, his whole appearance and personality were quite different, especially in his 60s-70s!
@Nickroll Oh my, you're right!! He was born in Flintshire. 🙈 He's just been living in London for a while
Each season of the crown helps my arguments against the windsors, monarchies in general, and even british society.
Edit: Im aware its fiction, but several parts, at least 50% of the series is true, and this series even omit other awful stuff.
Still watch every season though 🤣🤷🏻♂️ and I hope you do realise this is a fictional series based on real people
Funny enough Countries with monarchs are much happier than those without
@@calmuz9639 the british society showed itself alright when they unleashed their racism towards poor Meghan
I don't like this John Major. This is not The Grey Man.
0:41 I love how Margaret is just there drinking it stays true to her character in The Crown 😭
