The Vanished Birds is good
I binged a bunch of Sarah Addison Allen books a few years ago and I think Garden Spells is her best! Although I haven’t read Other Birds yet so maybe that one will give it a run for it’s money. This is making want to reread Garden Spells, especially since it’s a great book for transitioning from summer to fall😊
Might need to prioritize Magic Spells in September!

It's possible you'd find the connection you're looking for in 'Slaughterhouse-Five.' If a better indictment of the stupidity of war exists, I'll eat my hat. (Of course, Vonnegut's best work is his cameo in 'Back to School,' but that's a bit off-topic.)
House of Roots and Ruin has foiling on the standard edition, and the standard has the same endpapers as the B&N (I think) but in green instead of pink/burgundy.
(I really love the gold font on the B&N and the edges, so that's the edition I went with)

Also, I was not planning on rereading Red Rising, but then the Light Bringer hype got to me and now I have devoured the trilogy (for the third time) in a week's time and have been watching all the replays of your livestreams with Angela and Alex, so much fun! I am about to jump into Iron Gold and then it will be my first time reading Dark Age soon and I am soooo eager to see what all the buzz is about. Hope that Light Bringer will be everything you are hoping for, happy reading!!

My very favourite books across all genres are Vonnegut's collections of essays/speeches/thoughts on life as published in Wampeters, Foma and Granfalloons (1974), Palm Sunday (1981), Fates Worse Than Death (1991), and A Man Without a Country (2005).
I love all Addison Allen books ( just as I love Alice Hoffman being similar) - VERY SUPRIZED YOU LIKED IT - bloody shocked actually.

What to comment on first...you have moved Mickey 7 and Other birds up on my list. I have always heard good things about Vanished Birds but I admit I know nothing about it. I'm glad you enjoyed the Library of the Dead. I think it's very under the radar but it's quite a fun series. And lastly I had to sit there and tell myself that I do not have time to re-read the Graveyard book right now. I do not. At all. I will be strong. I also have the graphic novel and that was an enjoyable way to read it.

I’ve been eyeing Other Birds for months. Ordered. And you’re right about BOMC. Lots of blah but then a gem. I recently read both Sankofa and History of Wild Places from my BOMC backlog. I wouldn’t have bought them otherwise but I really enjoyed them. I don’t know why I was so surprised but I was. For that, BONC is a win.

I haven’t read Sarah Addison Allen in forever and I’ve never seen anyone talk about her on booktube. I’ve been wanting to get back into her work so will perhaps pick up Other Birds soon.

I think you might atleast appreciate the vanished birds, maybe even like it but I cannot remember if it will meet your scifi criteria and how you will feel about the writing style. Glad it was mostly a strong July for you!

I have The Library of the Dead and have heard good things but I'm nervous because I've heard people not really like the second one for some reason... EEK
Ugh I dnfed Dreams of Gods & Monsters at like 70%. I simply could not with the pacing/dragging out of shit. There was a chapter or two of like... female mc pov looking at her love interest thinking about all the ways in which she loves him... and then we switched to his pov and it was the same fucking scene from his pov thinking about her and all the ways in which she loves him... and I gave up. lol.
