Mama Cat: Perséphone (Pear). Took her in while pregnant due to a neighbour neglecting her. All black. Has thumbs. Pretty sure she's a dove.
1: Charlie aka sweet baby. All black with no thumbs. He thinks he's spiderman and climbs in the window screens. His favorite snack is wtv book I'm currently reading.
2: Clawdia (Nibbles). Black and white with a beauty mark. She has thumbs... wouldn't surprise me if she stole them. She's pure chaos but she purrs and cuddles me so it's fine.
3: Harry Houdini (Chunky). Black with a white patch on his chest. Has thumbs. If it's eatable, he will try to eat it. Unless it's dry food. He's high maintenance and only wants wet food. He's a cuddle bug. I can't even go to the bathroom alone.

Which book should I read for my next "Booktube made me do it"?
you're not gonna like this but please try magnolia parks 😆
and divine rivals! I'm excited to read that one
have you tortured yourself with Colleen Hoover yet?
Divine Rivals
The validation of seeing all my favorite booktubers also hate on Fourth Wing is giving me life.
Why would this give your life and validation from a book review. I just don’t get why everyone is getting there knickers in a twist over this it’s just a book. You either like or you don’t.
My favorite part of the book is that she's conveniently up a tree to overhear a plot point TWICE.
Wait, when is the second time?
Spoilers
The meeting at night but what’s the second one? During the Treshing?
@@BookswithEmilyFox spoilers
when the jerks were planning to kill the small dragon
Okay yeah that’s what I thought. The second one is definitely more believable than the first lol
When you guessed she was gonna be petite I snorted 😂😂 so true
They always are!!
@@BookswithEmilyFox Considering you got all the tropes right without even reading the book I have to ask how many of these books you've been subjected to
I have definitely been part of that love-hate cycle you describe on the internet and I think it’s because when there’s an initial wave of love, the early reviews tend to hype up certain aspects of the book (in this case the chronic illness rep, the dragons, the military magic school), but don’t give enough context to the things people might NOT like.
People get excited about those things, pick up the book, and then realize that it’s not the type of book they thought it was. And that’s where the hate and backlash comes in.
I think the nature of social media makes this even worse because the reality is, extreme reviews get more engagement. The gushing reviews attract viewers looking for their next five star read. Then reality sets in that this is not exactly classic literature, and a dedicated vlog that makes clear they’re just going to hate on the book will attract viewers who also disliked the book and want to vent about it, and attract fans who want to defend it.
There’s really no getting around the realities of social media and I don’t blame people whose livelihood is based on meeting the demands of algorithms for doing what will get them more engagement. I’ve just learned to change my own behavior and use book social media purely for entertainment and rely more on my own research for actually choosing what to read.
One of the first books I ever read because of booktube had this, ace of spades. Magical Vegas basically, but a lot of the hype was omg the love interest is a bi black man and I think someone's parent was non-binary or something and people liked the diversity but the book itself was awful. Representation is important but a book can't rely on that alone
41 MINUTES ?! What did we do to deserve this, it's not Christmas Emily !
Didn't expect it to be this long lol
I literally got to 81% and dnf'd because I realised I didn't care about any of the characters, the plot or what happens next and had zoned out since 50% through 😂
I didn’t care for the battle at the end tbh
Let me get this straight, the queen stuffs the children of rebels, who already are punished for their parents' deeds, into a very prestigious school with alarmingly low graduation rates (meaning only the best survive) and also gives them dragons (flying death machines of fantasy).... yeah I can't see anything going badly with this plan.
Spoilers?
Tbf they thought no dragon would choose them 💀
@@BookswithEmilyFox lmao this is the dumbest reason ever. It'd have been more believable if they were stuffed there to be quietly assassinated and made look like "death due to training". More interesting too.
I couldn’t stop laughing at “the stupid little dragon.” I think we are supposed to find her cute or whatever but let’s be real. 😂
She can’t even fly on her! Why are you even there then?!?!
Spoilers
Ah right… to conveniently be able to stop time then lose that power at the end 🙄😂
A good twist would have been that Jack wasn't allergic to oranges and was being obvious to set her up, but instead we got the author screaming from the parapets lest we miss more subtle foreshadowing.
I swear mates in romance novels are such a big thing because it makes it so the male love interest is so obsessed with the main character that he could never leave her or cheat on her. It’s like giving men a biological inability to hurt the women they are with romantically, which is a little sad if you think about it 🤔
Yet I fall for it every time 🤦🏻♀️😂
Women in general like the idea of soul mates so makes sense and feels secure that they wouldn’t leave them 😂
Or if you're SJM make every male love interest into a mindless lapdog, unless it's to make the "inventor of feminism" make Edward Cullen look pro-choice
Women like to feel special, you don't really see that trait in men so I guess it makes sense that the trope is so popular in books as well, especially if they are written by women. I agree with Elin.
@@missburn Its not really special to be like here's this person you're going to be forced to be with. Also I'm not sure I've ever seen it addressed with queer characters, what if said fated mate wasn't the gender you're interested in or indeed you might not be interested in anyone.
@@nickywal That's an interesting point. :)
Stop making female protagonists fucking lame. I wish more female sci-fi/fantasy writers wrote characters like R. F. Kuang or Fonda Lee. It's not even about love interests - the two writers I mentioned do it flawlessly without oversexualizing it or making feelings of lust bland.
Your reviews are so great! You don't sugar coat what you think! And your facial expressions and your laugh are the best!
Perfect timing Emily, i was just sitting down to have breakfast. Let's hope i don't snort my coffee out of my nose while laughing when you inevitably trash this book.
I haven't read this book yet, but I'm disappointed that the scene with Jack and the orange wasn't a setup. Yarros could have framed it as bait for Violet so that when she tries to harm him with the oranges, the whole poisoning the competition plot is exposed and she's reprimanded or forced to fight or locked up or something, presenting a new challenge that she has to face on her own or something.
Imagine if actions had consequences.... This book is another classic case of missed opportunities and wasted potentials.
watching you review books make me feel like i read them with u 😂 appreciate your honesty ❤
It's annoying when the author puts in "adult" content in their books for it to be categorized as an "adult fantasy" or whatever, when the book clearly reads as YA or even in some cases as a middle grade children's book. It seems a lot of writers and people in general are stuck at an immature mental stage but in horny adult bodies 🤷🏽♀️
And I'm not pooping on kids books at all! I like YA books, and enjoy content made for younger people all the time! It's more like, the only thing that makes something adult is s e x ? And why would you limit your audience like this? These books probably appeal more to teens but many wouldn't be allowed to read them because of the unnecessary sexual content.
You basicly just described wattpad XD
@@Irusla_series I don't know what that is 🫤
@@jelatinosa It’s a fanfic site
This feels like such a full circle moment because i actually found your channel through your Throne of Glass reading vlog. I was waiting for your reactions for the book bc this definitely felt very sjm especiallyyy when the „mated pair“ got brought up.
No mention of the deadly American Ninja Warrior course? I was laughing SO hard at that XD
When they described the Warped Wall I DIED lol
I’ve had to cut so much because the video was so long haha Honestly some parts were so bad that they were really entertaining 💀
I've been having so much fun seeing reviews of this book. I haven't seen a middle ground, either they love it or hate it. Some only love the dragons.
It's all very entertaining.
I don't plan on reading it, but the reviews are fun.
That's me, I only love the dragons :D And like the experience of flying on them, and how the grounds shake because of their mass, and my fingers freezing because it's cold and we are flying fast, and fighting from the back of them. All of that was awesome, made it worth reading it.
I’ve seen so many of my fav book tubers hating on this book but I’d already bought it so I gave it a go anyways with such low expectations. Ended up having so much fun with it! Flew through it, laughed out loud a few times. LOVED the dragons lol no shame
It is validating to know I’m not the only one who thought this book was dumb - I couldn’t even finish the book so kudos to you
One of the first vlogs I've ever listened to. Funny takes. Nicely done. You have an infectious laugh. I don't think I would have gotten through this one as a book. The audio book carried me through while doing stuff around the house. Entertaining enough. Definitely YA besides the more graphic romantic scenes.
I miraculously got an audiobook copy from my library. I rated it 3 stars. WHY IS THIS SO HYPED??
Edit: I forgot about the horny dragons lol
Did your brain block it out of trauma? Because I wish mine had…
Someone got inspired by a rick and morty episode XD. Horny dragons. lol.
@@BookswithEmilyFoxsame 😂
"there's a war and we need as many soldiers as possible!"
"Yeah, lets recruit a bunch of people for a elite unit but kill them during their training when rhey make minor mistakes! So only the best make it!"
"But couldn't we use their talents and strength in any other way instead of killing them off? Like in another unit?"
"No."
"No? Why?"
"Weak writing."
Honestly, I thought you'd hate it more 😂 It was cringey af but it brought me out of the starting reading slump with its bingeability 😂 and I gave it 5 stars because of sheer entertainment value. And no, I am not a 'newbie' in fantasy (as some people here in comments like to think everyone who likes this has not read anything better yet), I read my fare share of books. WAY better books. BUT sometimes we need a stupid book to entertain us and it's ok if not everyone likes it same.
I’ve INHALED the first book, although I am 90% sure that I’ll lose interest over the course of the next four books 🫣🫣
@@tina1989era Same. I'll give book 2 a go but there are suddenly 5? Nope. 🫣
I agree with this, absolutely.
I rated it low on every front, it's super predictable, soooo much plot-convenience, the romance is cringe (and I hate YA and NA, so I expected it to be cringe to begin with), I do not like open-door spice, the magic system is mediocre, the high-level storyline is slightly better I'm curious what's gonna happen in the next book but it's really far from a good plot. I loved the dragons, absolutely loved them. And it's an enjoyable read, I finished it in 3 days! In spite of all of those shortcomings and personal preferences that I don't like. So I gave it 4 stars, because of its enjoyability.
And I've been struggling through the Song of Achilles for 2 years now! And that's not a bad book, in fact I would rate it higher on all fronts, except enjoyment, clearly.
Sometimes shitty fast paced books are more enjoyable than those literary heights of deep meaning, I think this was amazing for that, sometimes people just want to read a book to kill a few hours in a story, it doesn't have to be deep, it just has to be good at pulling you along for a while. This one is good at pulling you along.
@@EGaborovna if you didn‘t like the first book you‘re gonna HATE the second one. By far my most disappointing read of the year. I gave the first one 5⭐️, and this one honestly doesn’t even deserve 2. it‘s like the author didn’t even have an editor, the dialogue is bad, the characters in general are obnoxious, the love interests have 600 pages of miscommunication, the smut is boring. The author is just info dumping. I‘m a hater. I‘ve had such high hopes esp because I thoroughly enjoyed fourth wing but literally the only good thing about this book was Tairn (even Andarna annoyed the heck out of me)😭😭😭
I don't want to assume anything, but my hardcore theory is that people who think that Fourth Wing is the best fantasy ever, never read any (real) fantasy with good world building that actually makes sense.
Yeah that’s how I feel about Sarah J Mass. there’s nothing wrong with enjoying these, they’re very readable but for most people when you’ve read more books, you see the weaknesses more.
I just don’t have the attention span for world building- I tend to skip entire paragraphs when I realize it’s just describing things I can already imagine n my head 😂. I haven’t read fourth wing but did enjoy court series by sh mass but I was also coming out of a 10-15 year reading slump
I’ve read plenty of “real” fantasy, sometimes you just want to have fun.
Could you be any more patronizing? I read all manner of fantasies, high, cozy, romance, classic, and I still enjoyed Fourth Wing. Just let people like what they like
I think we (and especially Goodreads) just start the subgenre „romantasy“.
Don‘t get me wrong, it’s not that I don‘t think that romantasy isn‘t real fantasy (what even is real fantasy, there are so many subgenres) but I think it would be easier for everyone to have them as their own category in bookstores, Goodreads, recommendation articles, etc.
I like to read a few romantasy books per year, especially if I’m in a reading slump, but most of the time I like my fantasy to have (almost) no romance in it. And if you’re looking up fantasy recommendations nowadays on popular media (I‘m not talking about the booktuber’s that only read one genre and are experts in this genre like Petrik - I’m talking about articles, general Tik Tok search or Goodreads) almost all the recommendations are in fact Romantasy books.
It‘s kind of boring tbh. The fantasy category in the Goodreads choice awards is really predictable because if a romantasy is nominated it will win, because the readership is higher, because it’s more accessible (which isn‘t a bad thing!). So I think Goodreads should make a romantasy category, so people who don‘t like romance can find new recommendations without romance in them, and people who like a romance plot in a fantasy world can find them easier, too.
Also tbh I‘m just annoyed because my local bookstore had a really good fantasy section, which made browsing really fun because you could always find a fantasy book that‘s not as popular as others or you haven‘t heard of. But since booktok got this popular and Romantasy is now this super big thing, they changed their section and 4 of their 5 fantasy shelves (it‘s a small shop) is now Romantasy. And the 5th one has only things like LotR, Brandon Sanderson, Robin Hobb & co. The stuff everybody knows.
The main character of this book seems like she looks like Daenarys but has the personality of Rey...or even Anakin.
I love your book reactions! So honest and funny. You always call out shitty behaviour of fictional men.
STOOOP the way I cackled when you were talking about the mating dragons 😭😭😭
This was the most ridiculous shit I’ve read in a while 💀😂
Booktok making me read it while Booktube making me stay away from it. I have trust issues with booktok so I'll choose the latter..🤣
I’ve been burned with Booktok with Bunny and a few others 😂
Reading Fourth Wing after reading Jade Legacy, one of the best, most heart-wrenching endings to a fantasy trilogy ever written, had to have been the most turbulent experience in the world. I'm so sorry.
The whiplash was something else XD
I love these type of videos bcuz I get to know all the sh*t that happened without reading it😂😂
I rarely comment but this is by far one of your best video ever. It is very entertaining.
My favourite dragons are in Temeraire, there's different species who have different personalities, the big, easygoing not the smartest ones etc. And she uses them to talk about social issues, like the Russian dragons being driven by fear and greed, whereas pretty much every other dragon would die for their captain. Or equating how the dragons are treated with how the veterans are, including Wilberforce being dragged to meet the dragons for that reason
Not Russians bad but this is how the serfs were treated until WW1
No but watching you laugh over this book literally made my day
Aw thank you! That makes me so happy!
Emily you are a genius!
I have never read fantasy and this was my first romantasy. It became a guilty pleasure. I loved the dragons though!
I tried reading this. The names sounded so stupid. And I couldn't get over how they just let so many kids fall to their deaths to get to this school. That's just soo dumb. Also, not wanting to hate an author for their terrible book because they're a woman? Why?? It's only ok to do that if they were a man?? That's kinda unfair...
I have this book on hold at the library, and I'm honestly looking forward to reading something stupid. I've been kind of stressed lately and reading garbage sometimes puts me in a better mood. 😂
Update, I read it. It's so stupid, but I kind of love it too. I will be reading the rest of the series. What can I say, I love garbage books sometimes.
Loved the vlog, as always!
But I was wandering about mama cat? Have I misssed something?
She hates her babies so she can't be in the same room as them. She was fixed 3 weeks ago so we're hoping that once the hormones go down, she'll get better!
@BookswithEmilyFox thank you for replaying! And yes, let's hope they can be reunited without issues 🤞🏻
This was fun❤
Ava Richardson writes some pretty good Dragon books. She has one series that is set in a school. They're all on Kindle Unlimited, but I don't know if that's available outside the US.
Hahaha I love that you guessed it correctly that the main character was going to have a weird eye color 😂
Even if I have a total different taste in books from Emily.. I love watching her videos, she always makes me laugh!!!
Also has Emily read Heartstopper??
This feels like a bad copy of Eon/Eona lololol
Which in my opinion is VASTLY superior
Do consider reading Eon by Alison Goodman, in my opinion a much better book. I couldn't get into Jade Legacy even though I tried really hard and was hoping I'd love it, but Eon did it for me.
I wasn't even aware there was disability representation in the book. I've not seen it mentioned anywhere except in the comment section. (If you said something, I missed it.) But as someone who is disabled (by multiple things) I'm going to say this...
Representation is a great thing... but in a well-written, well-received book that doesn't leave half the people who read it pissed off or DNFing. It's not a good look to have people justifying the reason you should read a book as being "it has X group representation". If that's the best reason for reading a book... not it's moving storyline, it's heartfelt characters that break your heart/make it leap for joy, or it's incredible way with words that bring the world to life... then, honestly... why? Disability representation deserves to be main stream... in well-written books people read because they're good, not because they're desperate to check a box on their diversity list.
I haven't read the book... but I also can't help but wonder if the representation is after-thought representation or unintentional representation - meaning the author never intended to code the character the way the audience is interpreting it- (it has been in every single book I've read)... which isn't representation at all. NO ONE wants to be the token anything or a complete afterhtought. And is it actual representation or implied representation? It's high-fantasy after all. Can someone explain just how a person in a high-fantasy novel has EDS and POTS. (They're two separate conditions and you don't have to have one to have the other.) Is there discussion about compression garments and healing from injuries taking 2-3 times as long? Is there discussion about chugging salt water and getting dizzy and your heart pounding so fast for apparently no reason at all that you fall to the ground? Myriads of medical appointments? Falling short on obligations and struggling socially because you can never predict how your body will behave? I just can't see that in a book with two Mary Sues (the main female character and the golden dragon) as the lead characters.
Her disability felt extremely situational. Like whenever the author wanted violet to be hurt, there it was. But there were long stretches (including the very athletic s*x scenes) where it was a complete non factor.
I've had that book on hold in my library for weeks, and I finally got it just in time for this video! 🤣
I gave it 4 stars (though it's more like 3.5). My expectations were very low but it entertained me and I could overlook most of the issues.
I agree with your conclusion, every word. I was gonna rate it 3 too, but bumped it up to 4 purely due to the enjoyability, I have devoured the book in spite of all the shortcomings you also mentioned, and because it made me cry. Just going off of "being enjoyable enough to finish it so fast" and "making me cry because I liked the character so much" .. it's already above most of the books I have read this year, predictable plot and cringey romance be damned. Didn't make it to favourite, it inspired me to start drawing dragons again, I liked it.
if you're looking for a cool dragon, i think taran matharu's dragon rider is pretty cool. the pace is kinda slow at times tho, but the bond between men and the different beasts is really interesting and i think the bond of the mc and his dragon is the best thing about the book!
I feel like this is a good review, and I agree . I cringed at a lot of things, but it was good to read tbh. I felt like it took a bit to get to the plot. And how she developed feelings super quick but that's just me 😅

Books with the best dragons--Have you read the Temeraire books by Naomi Novik?
Whenever I hear about books filled with the typical tropes, I beg from my soul for there to be a twist on them, and when there isn't 🙃💀 thank you for sacrificing your time so we don't have to.
Had to wait a day to watch this video to finish my library audiobook version, which made the video so much more enjoyable to watch 😊 The narration made the romance and spicy scenes less cringy to get through, but I found them largely unnecessary and quite frankly a little boring and repetitive - which, I guess, is one of the reasons I generally don’t tend to read much romance. I also expected an adult fantasy and was surprised/disappointed to find it more YA. A 3 star read (rounded up) for me
Thank you thank you for reading & reviewing Fourth Wing. Now I know for sure not to waste my time. I usually give any book a 100 page chance but I can tell it’s not necessary in this case. Again, thank you!
I was waiting for this video and you surprised me, I really thought you´ll like it less. For me it was 3*. It reminded me of YA series I grew up with, so it was very nostalgic. Also it was incredibly readable to a point it felt like a drug.
But it´s written so badly and it was full of cliches. And it was obvious her brother is alive from like the half of the book. Plus I´m very, very annoyed that it´s the highest rated book I´ve ever read (out of over 1700 books on my Goodreads).
Still I´m lowkey very excited for a sequel.
It absolutely reminds me of the books everyone raved about a few years ago. I deleted it because the video was too long but I had added a “PS” at the end saying “don’t tell me you would have loved this 💩 at 16” lol I’m not the target audience and that’s okay
I’d be so interested to see you try Zodiac Academy 🤣
Off topic but your lip color in the intro is so pretty 😍
Obviously, the book with the best dragons is Tooth and Claw by Jo Walton. It's basically Jane Austen but with dragons, perfect match.
I knew this would be fun to watch & that you’d cringe your way through as I did in trying to find what the hype was about. 😂
I promise you
If nobody told her how bad the book was before she read it, she would definitely think it was absolute trash
When your expectations are extremely low, you usually come out thinking _"it was not that bad"_
I agree completely. I put this book and most SJM books in the 3 star range because I definitely see the flaws, but I’m not reading them to have my mind blown. Sometimes I’m tired and I just want to be entertained. I can laugh at the cringy parts.
Same with any of the cheesy books written by men, but I definitely read way more from female authors bc I pick up a lot of romance focused books when I’m in this mood.
I’ll take SJM’s cringy smut any day over some of those popular male sci-fi writers and how they write women. We all know the type. 😂
I think that’s the biggest difference for me. The books I was referring to by make authors are incredibly sexist and it often ruins any fun I could have reading them. This one wasn’t sexist towards the male characters and the few scenes where a male character is objectified, the book is very self aware. You just can’t compare them!
Haven't read it yet, but tbh the ENTIRE reason I'm interested in and excited for this book is EDS/POTS rep, which is rare enough, but in a traditionally published book, that's *also* getting tons of hype, I'm just thrilled! 💜
I can see why people see it as rep for EDS but I didn't see it for POTS... did I miss it?
@@BookswithEmilyFox I haven't read it yet so I'm not sure, just excited for it :)
I am so happy to see this 😂 … this is gonna make my day lol
If you're searching for books with dragons, maybe try Temeraire series by Naomi Novik or The Memoirs of Lady Trent series by Marie Brennan
I left a livestream for this notification. I'm SO EXCITED for the roasting to commence. I brought marshmallow!
Hahahahaha I’m halfway through the video and this is hilarious 😂 I listened to the audiobook on x2 after a book hangover and it was the perfect read even though it was so bad and cliche and cringe 😅 not sure I’ll read the second one yet though because how many cliche can one ingest in a year?
I am halfway through your video and I am wondering:
Are there other female charakters except the protagonist?
That's something I really don't like in New Adult novels: you have one (1) female character, some other female extras to fill up the book and the rest of the characters (love interest, best friend, best enemy, teacher, mentor,...) are all male.
While the love triangle takes a good portion (and the dragons) she does have a female best friend, enemies to friends (?) and a sister who are part of the book. It's not too bad on that front
@@BookswithEmilyFox thank you 😊
I ended up with pretty much the exact same sentiments. Like it wasn't fantastic but like it was serviceable for what it was. I might read the second one but it really just depends on how long it is and how people are reviewing it. Fourth Wing was about 100 pages too long and I only got through it as a 3x speed audiobook. There are people who are saying they have read it multiple times and I just don't understand that. It was forgettable at best. It literally was just very standard for it's genre.
PLEASE tell me your favorite fantasy fiction romance because i’m craving a good book but i can’t find any
have you ever read naomi noviks dragon rider series? It's the napoleon wars but with dragons
I gave this audiobook a shot for about a chapter and a half (it was available on Libby and I needed something) and wasn't sure if I wanted to pick it back up. Thank you for confirming my choice to probably not do so! I can't deal with this style of protagonist.
It sounds like they took all their dragon lore from the Dragon Riders of Pern series by Anne McCaffrey.
I highly recommend reading her books instead if you want dragons. :D
Dear @BookswithEmilyFox, when listening to you talk about female authors being held to higher standards it came to my mind, that you should (please) give one more chance to Robin Hobb, if I'm not wrong, you only read the Farseer Trilogy, and, I get it, but it gets only better and better, skip the Rainwilde Chronicles, if you want to but all the others are amazing. Beautifully written, solid fantasy. You are missing out. I also loved the Green Bone Saga 👌
I’ve tried 4 of her books so sadly I’ve just had to accept she’s not for me!
I read this on audio and that was a huge mistake. But, I read it in almost one sitting because it was readable. Did I like it? No way - solid 2 in my opinion, but I read it and will likely pick up the 2nd one (IN PRINT!) .
I haven’t read this book so I could be wrong, but from your descriptions, it sounds like Yarros stole huge chunks from Anne McCaffrey’s Dragonriders of Pern series. Dragons choosing and bonding with humans, a Choosing that can often be deadly, telepathic communication, dragon mating, and a few similarities that would be spoiler-y for Pern - yup, yup, and YUP!
I really agree with the point about throne of glass etc i mean lets not forget THG, Divergent, the 5th wave...
Yes! That’s why I was saying I was getting dystopian vibes lol These books were not perfect but they were fun for what they were!
@@BookswithEmilyFox totally! To me they are the same idea: for teens, some good ideas but not becesarilly very complex or well written, etc. I feel like thats the point of these type of books, thats why they are fun lol
This is absolutely the worst book I've read this year.
May I introduce you to 1Q84…? 😂
I read this book last month and my feelings were very similar to yours. I enjoyed parts of it but the "romance" was extremely eye rolling. It had too many tropes and definitely had a young adult feel except for the very many "f" bombs and over the top lusty moments. Over all I gave it Three stars, but I admit that was rounding up a bit. Such a shame I didn't get a dollar for every "f" bomb, I could have bought some groceries with that money. 🙂
There's like 250 of them. 😂
I listen to every booktube review I can find that promises to trash this book. I hated it, DNF, guessed the ending and jumped to last chapter, yes, just as I predicted. Hated it ! Way too much poorly written adolescent sexual fantasy. Adolescent descriptions. I taught high school kids who wrote better. Oh and characters introduced solely so they could be killed off. Lazy plotting. Did I mention I hated it! And I enjoy a LOT of YA.
Hope you are having a good weekend day Emily and relaxing fun time xoxo 😘 💛🌞🏝️🌞💛🩵💛📙📖📖🩵🩵📚🩵🌞🏝️🏝️🏝️📚📚🩵📖📖📙📙💛📚📚💛🌞🏝️🏝️🌞🩵🩵🩵🌞🏝️🏝️🌞🩵📚📚📚🩵💛🏝️
if you want a book with FABULOUS dragons, you've gotta read Priory of the Orange tree. best dragons I've ever read
There are so many things about the world that didn't make any sense and usually I'm not one to care that much about that but here it was so much I couldn't handle it, it pissed me off lol
Also, I get why people like this book since it's pretty much just an amalgamation of every popular tropes in fantasy romances.
The tree location for convo is “convenient” but not a plot hole.
"Fly... or die" on the cover says it all
I watched your vlog for entertainment and was not gonna read the book but due to my eye surgery I could not read anything else and got the audiobook. It was so cringy at times and I had to laugh because I could relate now more with you 😂 the audiobook was especially funny because the narrator tried to act and I was seeing a lot of YA before me trying to make snarky comments which are supposed to be clever 😅
Audiobooks of cringy YA books are so tough to go through haha I feel for the narrators!
You: I’m waiting to see what her power is bc his is shadow
Me: obviously light
🙃✨
At least your hangover is from good books. I read The Witch of Willow Hall by Hester Fox it had almost no magic, full of miscommunication, and some "I tried it once because of the hype"
I liked ACOTAR a lot more cause even though the writing is not great, I found it more immersive and always ended up being very invested at the end of each book. In Fourth Wing the bad writing and bad romance sub-plot made me lose interest halfway through it :/
SO EXCITED!! 💛🩵🌞🏝️🌞💛💛🩵🏝️🌞💛💛🌞🏝️🏝️🌞🩵💛🩵🌞🏝️🏝️🏝️🩵🩵🩵🌞🏝️🏝️🩵🩵💛💛🌞🏝️🏝️🩵💛🌞🏝️🏝️🌞💛📖📖📚📚📚📙📙📙📚📚📚📚📚📚
I read Fourth Wing LOVED IT! So much xoxo 😘 🌞🏝️🌞🩵💛🩵📙📙📖🩵💛💛💛🌞🏝️🏝️🩵📚📚🩵📙📙📖📖🩵💛📚🌞🌞🏝️🌞💛📚💛🌞📙📙📖🩵💛📚📚💛🌞🏝️
I can't get over the quality dropoff going from Jade Legacy to Fourth Wing. 😂
Just here to appreciate the Fonda Lee love >3
@coryjordan6984 the Green Bone saga is one of my favorites!
So two of the kittens are poly dactyl which means they have six toes, and one kitten is not
First time here😂you are a queen.
The author has connective tissue disorder so I don’t mind that Violet also has it. IDK why she has to be small though.
I'm still not sure if i want to read it or not haha
I had a chance to listen to it on scribd.. I passed felt like a YA book and to hyped.
love your videos so much but I can't watch this because I liked the book and thought it was fun to read!!!
Your laughs at 15:33, 26:02, and 28:57...totally infectious! And this vlog makes me glad I got my dragon fix with Anne McCaffrey's Pern series back in the day. Still has the problematic when-dragons-mate-their-riders-mate trope, but the first book, Dragonflight, was written back in 1968.
I fell for the hype and listened to it on libby- i think it was a very quick read but super cringey, so much didn't make sense and the coincidendences, i ended up not rating it because i didnt think it was fair- i don't read fantasy romance I have never read a Sarah J Maas book (and after you said this was better I never will) they are not for me and hopefully i won't fall for the hype again. Very happy for everyone who loved or liked it, no hate.
I'm not sure I would have survived the audiobook XD
I don't think it would have made it better but at least i coukd return it and hopefully pretend it never happened
