On my layout I have Lionel, K-Line and MTH heavyweight passenger cars. Overall I like the K-Line's the best. MTH left the kitchen door off their diners. K-Line has that. I had the Lionel heavyweights custom painted in Nickel Plate Road and Lackawanna. MTH and K-Line are out of the box Lackawanna although the MTHs might have been custom painted by the hobby shop where I bought them. I don't remember if that was a catalog offering or not. At the time I had decals custom made for the cars I had repainted. For hat it's worth I also have B&O E8s and a set of lightweight passenger cars to go with them.

Atlas did the right thing. They look great as you said. As far as running them on a layout I dont have big enough curves. Would have to buy them as display models only. Even on your great huge layout they could use just a little bit more room on the curves. Nonetheless their still a great looking model.

Another great video. These cars are so beautiful. Love the colors, really bold and stands out. I always loved MTH's F and E units.

Screw Lionel and they’re inflated prices.
Gimme them purple boxes and those Atlas Master line.

Great price. No issues with their couplers? The 21" Lionel' passenger cars give me a headache. If you don't have quick reflexes. Crash...

Glad Atlas didnt fix what wasnt broken. Thought it was kind of funny, I dont mind that they used their own box and stamp, I would guess they prefer that as well...:)

I have this set, didn’t want the rpo but now I do. I just wish the doors opened. I bought the rail king version of the locos because it was all I could find. Only has one powered A unit and a dummy A and B. Is the loco bad or just scale vs gauge? Or be$ause they are “ heavyweights?”

  • @railking61

Wish Atlas would have worked out being able to couple these cars closer together if you have wider curves.

Pardon me. I'm a model railroader. In the past I dedicated myself to reproduce in detail, including internal lighting, some models in HO - 1:87 scale, which I believe is more difficult than the O - 1.45 scale. But with all the perfection of the details dedicated by ATLAS to the making of passenger cars and especially in the observation car, I couldn't help but see that the wires that feed the LED's, appear when the Baltimore and Ohaio composition is on the track, energized, that's not should happen. It's a finishing detail. Overall the composition is beautiful. Congratulations!!

I'm so glad that Atlas is offering these in a P&wv paint job. I've had an MTH 2-8-0 for the P&WV with only a singular hopper and Caboose to pull because rolling stock is so few and far between for that road name.

Nice to see these, look great together, I just really wish they were scale length. I passed on them.

    • @davidleopold4219
      @davidleopold4219 2 ปีที่แล้ว

OH, non-scale is so "unscale-lish!" Not upscale either-- more like "downscale" right?" Ugh!
21" O Scale passenger cars are so w a y impressive (provided Atlas flex track is laid to enable broader curves than any sectional track can emulate). Naturally, the Layout (who's?) would also stage benchwork against walls allowing passenger and freight consists to curve inward without any unsightly overhang. Of course, must-have (Kadee) scale couplers would be outfitted to draw-in (any) cars even more. "Passengers" wouldn't need to make a "leap of faith" after "hearing the chimes" and walking between cars to the diner as Eric kinda mentioned. Let's not neglect (everyone?) to add (car heating) steam line piping, signal, brake hoses, and hooks & chains at least on the rear platform end sill (all being brass castings from Precision Scale) used by p r o t o t y p I c a l modelers like Oriana, Richard Boyle, and even Damsels in distress. Maybe every 3-Railer should giveaway all their holdings to deserving youngsters, become a 2-Rail O Scale modeler, buy all the top rated vintage brass and add their name to every GGD pre-order?
Wait! Hold on reviewers and critics alike! Actually, the cars Eric showcases are honest-to-goodness O Scale-- (just 70' instead of 85'). TH-cam viewers, Eric's Open House visitors, and his beautiful velvety Russian Blue cats won't quibble a it about missing about 3 inches of ABS in length on those great looking Bando Blue and Grey B&O Heavyweights!

@@amadigidigaula771 My wordy commentary was somewhat in jest-- hope that doesn't make me a "jester" and need to wear a silly hat with bells. But, I do see these "Madison" passenger cars as having nearly all the "bells and whistles" in detail 21" --or not. Since the opera, Amadigi Di Gaula, was also staged as "Oriana" (as previously included by me on the sly) there'd be another possible Alisas? Anyway, continue to enjoy one of Greatest Hobbies ever.

Great looking cars and video. Keep 'em coming. That sure brings back some memories. My family rode one going from Wash. D.C. to St. Louis in 1961. Then caught a UP train to Abilene, Kans. I liked the B & O better. We were in a sleeper car and had a bathroom. The UP had a toilet in the open car, ha.

Great video Eric. I'm a die-heart B&O man ... In my youth I lived next to Wheeling & Pittsburgh sub and I have been told I fell asleep watching the night steam passenger trains go by the house ... At that time they were pulled by P-5ds then P-7s ...
If you could find a nice 3-Rail P-7 in bando blue you would have alternative motive power too ...
Again nice video of America's first railroad ...
PS: I have an MTH set in storage that I need a place to run ...
