fu**ing gorgeous..Becca, while perhaps a bit reticent in her delivery, gives a heartfelt chance at singing this absolute stunner lyric. her improvised melodic lines cut against the lush harmonization underneath, allowing her voice, amidst acoustic piano, upright, and drums, to be not only heard, but felt. Gerald, wow, what can you say..his playing is as inside as it is out, rhythmically engaging, harmonically rich as any piano could dream to sound. Joe is an absolute monster on bass. At times I get lost when I try to follow him so closely, but then, I relax, sit back, and get swept up in his absolute brilliance. Amazing what bass players can hear in rhythm and harmony, what they add to the sonic palette. and Henry, while mostly out of sight, is never out of mind's ear, tying all together the separate but sympathetic pieces, of this most talented and inspired whole. This seems to be an improvisation in a relaxed setting. Safe to take chances. To be imperfect. To be honest in pursuit of something greater than the individual could achieve alone. Almost too much does this performance reflect the lyrical content; it's funny, it's sad, it's quiet, it's mad...but beautiful.
What a nice surprise to see them at the Siena Jazz summer workshop!! Brings back tons of fond memories from when I went there in summer of 2019. I got to play in Joe's band, every day for a week. Becca and Henry were also teaching that summer, but not Gerald. Love to all
