  • How to combine with the blues?
This song, “100 Ways”, is composed by Quincy Jones, with vocals by James Ingram, a very famous romantic soul groove music.
The key point to improvise this song, in my opinion, is using the augmented scales and chords in the dominant chord progression. The bluesy melody that accompanies the discovery and expression of these dominant sounds in the major chord progression is inexplicably moving and refreshing. I also used Wes Montgomery's signature octave motifs. To me, the octave is a way of connecting point A to point B, with pivoting on any chords and scales within it provides the audience with colourful improvised melodies through my percussive picking rhythms.
