I love how many times you said “beautiful”. It’s great to meet people that appreciate history.

Some of the old streetcars in SF where purchased from Toronto, Canada when that city upgraded its rolling stock. I remember riding one and recognizing the pattern of dents behind the driver's seat! You can see this very clearly with the maroon-colored car, which not only retains the Toronto Transit Commission's colors, but actually still has the original TTC logo visible right behind the front door. Somebody has been knowledgeable and courtious ---- and decked it out with a Canadian flag. Thankyou SF! Those old PCC cars, used all over North America, were incredibly durable, some of them serving for half a century.

I hope, one day soon, to ride the #15 streetcar in Philadelphia. I used to board the #15 streetcar on Poplar Grove St. when I was a young boy living in west Baltimore. PWG

The bells on these trolleys are so loud and jarring. I don't know how the passengers or people in the street can stand it. Our PCC trolleys in Philadelphia have gongs but they are much more mellow. Some of those San Francisco cars are from Philadelphia, but all of the cars are beautiful.

As it says, the day pass is good on everything operated by the Muni except the cable cars. Good on trams, buses, metro and trolley buses.

The streetcar line mentioned from 1888 was not referring to the vehicles which are probably from late 1930s to 1949. At least the ones in Pittsburgh were from that era.

Do you think it's ok to travel on the F street car with a carry on size luggage? I need to take it but I'm worried maybe a taxi cab would be better? Not sure if luggage is approporiate for the F street car. The route also involves "blue line" and "bart train".

Rode this train almost daily for a few years, best areas in the City to shoot street photography

It is a trolley car not a train.

Trolley 1009 is of the suburban type used throughout the United States by being double ended.

You know you're in Heaven when you won't get off the PCC!

    • @TohaBgood2

Why wouldn't you get off the PCC? These have dedicated tracks in a lot of places and they're pretty hefty. Unless a bus hits them you'll be fine. I doubt that even a large truck or SUV can do that much damage to them. They are not busses, after all.
Plus, Muni did update them to modern safety standards. They look old-timey, but they are essentially modern vehicles underneath, or at least so well maintained that it doesn't matter.
