Because I support this dedication to classic review videos, especially mid series reviews, which were never really a thing, I let this play on mute in the background once you started talking spoilers. Keep on keeping on, Allen.
Soooo glad you hoped back in! This series is so incredible. Khanaphes is one of the best fantasy cities I've read. It just feels so incredibly realized and lived in.
Thank you Allen! I am what feels like one of the few who have read the entire 10 book series...the first video I ever saw of yours was for Empire in Black and Gold, which convinced me to give this series a try. I read the first few books along with you and your crew and enjoyed the group discussion videos you put out. I was sad to lose your thoughts and opinions on the subsequent books, but am very happy to see you're back on the trail! Its funny how much I've thought of you while reading the rest of this series- you are in for such a treat with what is to come! You will forever be attached in my head to this series, and I feel a kinship with you because of this, even though we don't know each other. I can't wait to hear your thoughts on the remaining books, both the good and bad. Even though there are a couple books that I am confident you will not like as much as others, as a whole, this stands as one of my all time favorite series for what Mr. T created, especially it being his first published works. Love your content, super stoked to see you continuing after the birth of your son. As a new parent myself I know exactly what it is like to have Everything change with a baby, and its great to see you come back after some time off. Thanks again my friend for sharing your wonderful thoughts with us!
Thank you so much for all these kind words! I anticipate that Heirs of the Blade will be a lesser liked book bc I just know it's gonna have freaking Tynisa but we'll see! Thanks for always watching and supporting!
As a loyalist, I’m glad you could finally join us in loving this book!!!!!! This was so fun since there are indeed so few vids about Apt, and this is one of my favs out of the 10 books. The siege in this one and particularly the battle at the bridge was breathtaking stuff. The whole premise of an isolated city state that’s like an ancient Egypt that has persisted into modern times is just so so cool.
Love that you’re getting around to the rest of the series! You initially got me interested in it and while I finished it months ago I couldn’t agree more that there needs to be more content about it. Great series and great video, Allen
Love, love the review. You hit the nail with how Tchaikovsky does post war stuff in both Guns of the Dawn and this series. Just listening to you talk about the themes and these characters, I feel like rereading it.
I am so glad you have asserted chosen to ignore the gripes of the capite censi and have chosen to return to a favorite series of yours. I fully intend to begin this series early next year after finishing the Children of Time trilogy which should be in January (reading Children of Ruin at the moment). I can't believe I have waited so long to begin this author. Thanks so much for convincing me. Happy Reading! Fianna
So glad you are continuing this series! Your video on the The Empire in Black and Gold got the series on my radar back in the day and I read the whole thing last year. It was excellent and secured the sixth spot on my list of all-time favourite fantasy series! I thoroughly enjoyed The Scarab Path (although my fave instalments come at the end) and love the passion with which you discuss the themes, the characters and the plot. Hope you enjoy Sea Watch whenever you get to it! I can also highly recommend the audiobooks, I did a mix of audio and physical reading, which turned out to work well for me.
I love your reviews, they're the best. And I'm glad to see you coming back to Apt and loving it. I read the series after seeing your review for book 1. I've spent the last two years reading authors I've found from your channel, and they've been some of my favorite books of all time, Tchaikovsky, Pratchett, Bancroft, Abraham, Parker. Keep making great content.
YES ALLEN PREACH!!!!! I am so tired of seeing 183647655848785775 revies of book 1, and nothing beyond it, it sucks so much!!! Scarab Path was just tremendous, I loved it so much. It has been a while, I should pick it up again.
Looking forward to the remainder of the reviews. Scarab Path was one of my favourite instalments in the series. My enjoyment of this series is the most wildly inconsistent of any series I've ever read so I am always keen to hear other perspectives.
Did I just watch a review for the fifth book in a series I haven't even started? Yes, yes I did. Excellently done Allen 1. No scarabs in a book called The Scarab Path? Wth 2. [Your judgement > The demos] ALWAYS If I ever get in the mood for a military fantasy I'll keep this series in mind! I finally ordered a copy of Guns of the Dawn by Tchaikovsky so my journey though his books will continue with that.
The Number 1 siege writer in fantasy?!? 😱 An appeal to tradition is a logical fallacy (I learned that through one of Jared’s videos), and I love hearing that this book explores that with opposing loyalties. Sounds amazing!
I think I started the series cuz of you and are already long finished with the whole series. It really is unique. Where else are there bug people who are either sorcerers or war machine engineers and the one can't do the other. Also there's all the short stories where one can see parts of the world map that weren't featured much or at all in the main series. And ATTENTION SPOILERS FOR I THINK BOOK 6 OR 7. I WARNED YOU a whole underwater civilization or rather civilizations who are mostly unknown to the land world and the other way around. It's maybe the most unique fantasy world I ever read about
I mentioned in chat the other day I only ever watch you in collabs. I intend to correct this. The only Adrian Tchaikovsky I have read is Service Model (Which I DNF) and Elder Race (Which I loved). It's blurry but I know that is Senlin behind you on the shelf. I'll have to check your review.
Just wait until the Sea Watches. and the Heirs... let me tell you, they got THE Blade. And when the Air Wars...... hooooooo boy. but that's NOTHIN, NOTHIN to the War Master's Gate-ing. But just you wait, just you wait until there's that Seal, that Seal, that Seal...
Maaaaaan, this is annoying! Where, when do I find the time to introduce a 10 long book series in life? Does it come with a time stretching spell? I'll need to start with Guns of the Dawn to get a feeling of Tchaikovsky's writing and figure out if that's an author I may like. But 10 books... 😭
Tchaikovsky writes so many different genres with so many different styles. Read Empire of Black and Gold. It can serve as an introduction and is perfectly servicable if you don't want to continue the series. Plus it's an excellent book.
