    About Simple Little Life:
    This channel has sort of turned (inadvertently) into a knife making channel. But the original idea behind what we wanted it to be is this description below:
    Videos on our journey to homesteading. With a recent purchase of a little piece of the Alberta prairie, we're looking to sell our nice suburban home in search of a more meaningful life beyond chasing the "American dream" working for some big company and making someone else rich. It's not about the money, it's about getting the most value from the work I do to improving the life of my family.
    Some preparedness, DIY, building quality things with your hands, guns, gear, and outdoor exploration.

    I've become a fan of the S24O that Grant Petersen from Rivendell Bicycles evangelizes. Leave after my workday Friday, ride for about 2 hours and have minimal camp gear. Camp out, in the morning make coffee, pack up, and head home. Just eat before and after, so you don't need to bring food. I tend to do them in the summer and just bring a tarp and sleeping bag, a book, and stuff to make coffee.

      Yeah that is such an awesome concept! I’ve done a few S24O trip in a canoe with my boys (think I even shared one on my bike blog) and it is such an awesome idea! Yours sound like they’re being done right. The less you being the better sometimes right? 👍

    Worked as a mechanic and a wheel builder in a bike shop for many years. I just repair them now out of my garage maybe twice a month for the local kids on my street. They love to watch and learn while I get the satisfaction of passing down some knowledge to them. 👍🏻

      That’s awesome! They’re lucky to have you willing to help them out like that. Nicely done👌

    I just got an old 10 speed I've been riding for like 42 years now. :) But it still works great for getting around town and running out to the store to pick up a few things.

    Dude I just bought a trailer and bike bags for my hardtail 29er. I am so stoked for this summer. Its cool to see we have two hobbies in common. Keep up the awesome vids! Surly makes wicked bikes, I hope to pick one up one day.

    cool to see this with a 3.0 tire. Been on the fence on which model to get. I was thinking ECR or Krampus mostly because of the 3.0 tire. Thanks for sharing

      Right on, glad it helped. (Also, I get excited whenever I get a comment on this video 😆. Bicycles are a passion of mine but videos about them so very poorly on this channel. So thanks 👍)

    Jeremy!!! Great video 👍👍👍👍👍 I just learned a ton from you!! I’ve been looking at the handle bars... but when you said your hands go numb... I was all over that!! It’s the worst when you want to keep riding and you keep switching hands and riding with just one hand on the controls!! I’m getting stoked!! Need to get my fat but back on the road!!!
    Thank You!!

      They are great bars. I find that the ergon grips helps out a lot of different bars for me but these Jones h-bars really give a lot of different hand positions. Lots of control too. I seriously love these bars! I hope you get riding your green machine more! I really started enjoy cycling (even longer distances) when I began focusing on comfort👍

    I’ve recently started some biking just around my neighborhood in some places that offer some cool off road biking. I don’t know if I will ever be this into biking with all the mods and whatever, but putting a tool pack on the seat is something I might do. I live in sunny south Florida, which is nice for weather year round, but it is soooo urban and developed down here it’s hard to find a ton of places to ride near me. Although I do know of a few mountain bike trails I want to try soon.

    I love cycling. I got into it pretty recently, last summer, but so for I've clocked in over 1500 miles(mostly in 3 months where I rode 10-20 miles a day). It is one of my favorite things to do now.

    • @Simplelittlelife

    Nice set up. Thanks for sharing. I'm a cyclist too. Mainly mtn biking in the hills of Tennessee. I use a Camelbak and like them a lot. I use one for hiking too. A friend of mine had a Kona. I've had Giant and now have a Trek Remedy single chain ring with a 10 speed cassette.

    A nice simple bike, I cycle a bit but not often enough, I find it a relaxing way to go somewhere and be more aware of my surroundings.
    I like the look of the Brooks saddle you have there, super expensive here in Spain but comfortable and the burrito on the back is one of those things that doesn't change, I used to put a similar pack (but bigger) on the back of my western saddle when I kept horses. Always good for a few necessary or emergency items.

    • @Simplelittlelife
      @Simplelittlelife  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      It is very relaxing isn’t it? The Brooks are super expensive here too! 👍

    Hi nice video! First time viewer and now subscribed. Karate Monkey brought me here :) Very nice bike you have and cool tool roll, gonna copy that. I have a new to me km 27.5+ with squish fork and c17 rubber cadmium? saddle and is very comfy but I only ride 1-2 hrs, just beginning cycling. Hope to see more km video and that $20 project bike, cheers!

    11:18 wrap the tape around a plastic drinking straw then cut it down to size. Slip a few zip ties ties through the straw as a convenient holder.

    Toe straps!!! Oh my. I used to race with those. Where can you find those now a days? You could go into a bike shop today and unless there is a old mechanic they may not know what you are talking about.

    • @Simplelittlelife
      @Simplelittlelife  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hahaha! Yeah new shops don’t carry them much anymore that’s for sure. I see to be able to find them all over the place; garage sales, recycling yards and a few old school bike shops I frequent. I probably have 20 of them, all from bikes or parts I’ve found that we’re headed for the trash...👍

    Lol that name is awesome! Where did you get the straps? Little off topic, but would be interested to see more detail on that water pump as well

    • @Simplelittlelife
      @Simplelittlelife  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I get a bunch of these from old bikes I find at garage sales and stuff. Tons come off of bikes I find at the recycling yard too. For the pump, it's a little giant that I got from an uncle who passed away. Super tough (it'll pump small pebbles, grass and stuff) and it just hooks up to regular garden hoses, which is handy! Cheers buddy👍

    Seriously considering getting rid of my all mountain hardtail and Surly Cross Check and going full minimalist with just this bike.
    How well do you think this would do as an urban/road bike with 29r road tires like Maxxis Grifters and keeping some 27.5+ wheels with mountain tires on hand for trail riding?
    Obviously it wouldn't excel as a road bike, but I'm not trying to win races
