The more I watch this, the better I like it. You respect what you're hunting. Leaving some for seed. That's the way it should be. really enjoy this video and really pleased to see you guys have your heads screwed on right! Well Done!!!

My new FAVORITE video, thanks for sharing. I moved out to the country and had to deal with those bastards creating a tunnel network under my barn and were destroying the foundation.. I've gotten 5 so far and they seemed to have gotten the message.

Great shooting Dave. You will find however that as you get older getting down on the ground like that will become far more difficult.
And getting back up even more so. As good as your setup works for you consider a good shooting tripod system that will allow for shooting from both a standing and sitting position. It would also allow for leaving your table at home. We have and use several different ones including one that i had custom built for me. A good one and also moderately priced is the ( Ultimate Tripod ) made by Mcfaden Machine co. in Blairsville Pa.
A few years ago we killed 3 out of 4 bucks in about as many minits with 3 different shooters using the same gun off one of those, 300 Norma on a Mark V Weatherby action 30” Hart barrel.
Distance was 635 on the first one and just about 750 on the last one. All nice 8 pointers, we killed the fourth 2 days later.
We couldnt have done that without the tripod because it is so quick to use. A bit heavy but not real heavy, about 15# total.
Go on their site and check them out. They offer different type rests for them as well as different lengths for the legs which are of coarse adjustable.

Not only has getting down on the ground - and even more so getting back up - become more difficult... But I had to have my neck fused about six or seven years ago and shooting from prone is darn near impossible for me now.
I do have a tripod setup these days. It's not as nice as a Mcfaden, but it works pretty good. It's a very large, heavy duty carbon fiber photography tripod, with a giant ball head and the rifle mounted in a clamp called a Triclawps. Have no problem knocking off 'chucks at 500 yards with it!

Love the shooting guys, but those skyline shots aren't safe. I know, light varmint bullets, etc. But if I was hiking, riding or shooting on the other side of those hills I'd be pissed. Something to think about.

I have seen videos of rock Chuck hunting in Northern California but haven’t been able to figure out where it’s at. I used to go prairie dog shooting out in Arizona but then got into coyotes. I still do coyotes and love it. Now since I am retired I really would like to try that rock chuck in Northern California. It would be nice to get the dust off my prairie dog rifles.

@@DaveAffleck I just don’t know where to go, otherwise I would drive up there for 4 days. Then trying to find out when rock Chuck season is on the fish and game site is impossible. I have looked many times. Every hunter knows that this anti state makes it as hard as possible to go hunting. I remember when I started coyotes, I went to the Fred hall show in Long Beach. I went to one of the fish and game booths to get info on places to go for coyotes and just get what ever info possibly about the subject. The 3 fish and game guys, that were in uniform, laughed and made a comment after I turned and started to walk away and then quickly turned back to see what they would do once I turned my back to them. I could tell something was going to be said because of the negative contact with them. It’s a shame really, they should be there to help so hunters do the right thing. All that type of reaction from these 3 fish and game guys did would encourage young up coming hunter to do negative things because if the fish and game guys don’t care then the young upcoming hunters won’t care either. Luckily I was older and wiser and realized these were just a couple of bad apples on the job.
Back to the rock chucks, so at this time I still don’t know their season and where up north to go.

@@DaveAffleck I see you haven't made a video in a while. Is it possible to make one and discuss some more about your wildcat calibres especially about that Russian wildcat you showed in the plate video. It would be much appreciated. I found your videos the best on tube.

LOL! No doubt about that. This was shot long ago, before even HD cameras were very common at all. On a Canon GL1 (not HD). And 4k was years away from being heard of.
