Thank you for noticing my point. I was considering in investing right away, I mean the guy said they couldn't tell the difference between Lab Grown and earth grown. Please I need to know this, somebody?
Patrick Fay was not 100% honest here. Yes chemically, laboratory grown diamonds are the same as naturally formed diamonds and visually they look identical. It is not true though that the two are indistinguishable (for example fluorescence is not the same). With proper specialized equipment, lab-grown diamonds can be singled out. If you have your diamond GIA certified, they will issue a report stating whether it is laboratory or naturally made. GIA now sells a device that allows you to test lab-grown diamonds. Have a look at this article from the Gemstoone Institute of America (GIA): www.gia.edu/gia-news-research/difference-between-natural-laboratory-grown-diamonds Since the two types of diamonds can be distinguished, there is a big push right now from natural diamond sellers to continue the dialog that natural diamonds are rare, made by nature and giving a natural diamond is the way to go if you truly want to express your love. Lab made diamonds will put some pressure on the price of natural diamonds but it will certainly not wipe them out. Also, since no major new sources of diamonds (mines) have been found in the recent years, there is contrary upward pressure on prices due to increasing scarcity of new supply. So, the chances of the price of natural diamonds dwindling down to almost zero is slim. I would be careful about buying large lab-grown diamonds at this time. There are current a limited number of manufacturers producing high quality gem quality diamonds. But many many others are coming on line very soon. With a flood of new producers, this will cause significant downwards pressure on lab-grown diamonds as they become more and more of a commodity. So, will some of the lab-grown diamonds that currently sell for 30%-50% lower than natural diamonds, eventually sell for 95% less than natural diamonds? Large diamonds have good resale value due to scarcity. What will the resell value be for lab-grown diamonds? Remember that the production cost of lab-grown diamonds is very low. Let's imagine a scenario where the actual manufacturing cost is $1000 for something that they will sell for $50,000. What is the incentive for them to buy back at a later date that diamond from you at a decent price (say $20,000-$25,000) when they can just make another one for $1000. In the long term, the buy back price will be close to manufacturing price, and not perceived market value.
And they are molecularly IDENTICAL to naturally occurring diamonds. People (i.e future wife’s) who’d complain receiving a lab-grown diamond over a naturally occurring diamond would not be worth marrying. Like imagine their logic...”but honey, I want the diamond which formed naturally in some exotic location, probably dug out by a cooperation exploiting the local population and bringing destruction to local wildlife”. I haven’t looked into it much but I do hope this guy isn’t bullshitting by saying you cannot physically or molecularly distinguish between the natural and lab grown diamond.
@@sighfly2928 No I have studied them for a bit of time. They are literally just diamonds. 4 carbon bonds in a lattice structure just like naturally occurring diamonds. The diamond seed ensures the structure is the same throughout the entire lab diamond. The gases simply provide a base for the lattice structure to continue spreading based off the original tiny diamond seed. So, there is literally no single difference apart from the variety of the processes from which the lattice diamond is conceived. Diamonds are fairly abundant and the only reason they are expensive is because of monopolies like De Beers only having access to the diamonds mined. They then sit on those diamonds and set the prices themselves to ensure a stable and increasing market value. Although in order for a monopoly to survive there has to be no chance of leakage. Lab created are that diamond and will cause the natural diamond industry to eventually plummet. Although, the small number of purists will lead to the large and highest grade naturals to spike in price and leave the rest of the market behind. Hope this brings some 'clarity' (ha I am so funny) to the whole situation.
@@mnoovurvi That is correct, there is no elemental or structural difference. Only if you want it to be a diamond from the earth specifically such as a purist might.
Thanks for dropping this knowledge. I've been saving for awhile and now there's this option. Plus for some women this is great cause there is no blood shed over these.
Diamond is a diamond period. Companies run up the prices and they even used to throw them away cause their not even as rare as other gemstones. I’m sure the stigma of buying lab grown diamonds will lessen and be an afterthought in the future. Besides, I’d want a bigger diamond and know that it didn’t cost a fortune too anyways
Thank you Michael for this very informative video. As I replied to someone below, the natural diamond industry has a very ugly history of slavery, torture, & death. This includes children in Africa who've had their hands chopped off because they touched a diamond that somone else wanted. Also, that industry damages the environment from digging huge holes in the ground (mines) and the pollution from all the digging equipment to produce those huge holes. For this reason, Lab Created Diamonds are called "Environmentally Friendly Diamonds" and rightly so. Because of the rapid developments in lab created diamonds, other applications are opening up, such as diamond computer chips which are far far far superior in performance to any silicon computer chips made today. This is partly because diamond conducts heat extremely well, therefore taking heat away from microcircuits printed on the chips. Therefore the diamond computer chips don't heat up as quickly as silicon chips. Heat causes chips to "crash" (malfunction). Also, electric rechargeable batteries made from diamond can potentially hold far more electric charge than the best lithium ion batteries made today by Tesla (whom I love by the way). Microscopes using lab created diamond lenses will allow researchers to see things never before seen in areas of biology and other sciences. This is because diamond lenses bend light in different ways compared to conventional lenses. Could this lead to a cure for cancer and other diseases? I say yes. How about large windows made from diamond? Good for storm resistance in areas prone to hurricanes, tornados etc. The natural diamond industry is going the way of the dinosaur ... good riddance to it and all the greedy, evil, monsters who run it! May they all rot in Hell! Sorry, but I keep thinking about a picture that I saw of a little girl in Africa with no hand as it had been chopped off. I will never again buy a natural diamond...ever!
When you do this with plants it’s called propagating! What they are doing is the same thing! So amazing! Coming from a person who propagates their own plants, I find this so exciting!
Not gonna happen. Synthetic diamonds are not a new thing. They have been around for decades. If they were going to disrupt the diamond industry they would have already done so long ago. Most people just don't want a synthetic diamond, even though it's technically the same thing. Natural diamonds are always going to be more valuable due to their rarity and the fact that the market is tightly controlled by a few companies.
@@masskilla469 Nope, synthetic diamond = lab grown diamond. It's the same thing. Taken from wikipedia: "A synthetic diamond (also known as a laboratory-grown diamond, a cultured diamond, or a cultivated diamond) is a diamond produced by a controlled process, as contrasted with a natural diamond created by geological processes or an imitation diamond made of non-diamond material that appears similar to a diamond."
I know, what are all these people talking about, they've been known to the industry forever and they change nothing except in the first couple of years they were discovered XD

@@911madza probably not, maybe yes, he has no way to find out tbh....
@@martinkulik9466 in fact you can never be sure unless you dig it up from the dirt yourself
Have a look at this article from the Gemstoone Institute of America (GIA): www.gia.edu/gia-news-research/difference-between-natural-laboratory-grown-diamonds
Since the two types of diamonds can be distinguished, there is a big push right now from natural diamond sellers to continue the dialog that natural diamonds are rare, made by nature and giving a natural diamond is the way to go if you truly want to express your love.
Nothing can replace the natural, uncut by hand.
hands down best video on your channel.... and ive watched them all :)

from 3 million dollars to 15,000. That’s insane!!!
@@bambamson238 So there is no point of buying natural diamond unless you are a someone that wants it from earth specifically ?
@@mnoovurvi That is correct, there is no elemental or structural difference. Only if you want it to be a diamond from the earth specifically such as a purist might.

Diamond is a diamond period. Companies run up the prices and they even used to throw them away cause their not even as rare as other gemstones. @@haroldgomez6895 I think diamonds aren't even worth the money , I believe gold is the best way to go, that's why I purchase gold jewelry only.
Conversations between them makes me smile for no reason

Not gonna happen. Synthetic diamonds are not a new thing. They have been around for decades. If they were going to disrupt the diamond industry they would have already done so long ago.
