I'm noticing Joytoy is getting more brave when it comes to size. They're releasing (and planning to release) huge models lately. Apparently they're even working on releasing actual Imperial knights which are to scale
Just my thoughts here and I don't have any real, hard data to back up my thoughts but I will say it anyway...This WH40K collaboration with GW has probably blown up JT's revenue. Usually if a company has more money to work with, the greater "risks" they can take with their products so I think that is why we are seeing larger and more expensive action figures pop-up
Thank you for the fantastic review! I was on the fence about getting the JoyToy's Warhammer 40K Space Marines Grey Knight Nemesis Dreadknight, but your detailed video really helped me make a more informed decision. Your insights and close-up shots provided a clear understanding of the figure's features and details. Keep up the great work, and I appreciate the effort you put into sharing your thoughts on these collectibles!
Thank you for the tremendous support! You've always supported the channel and I thank you for it. I am curious, what is your final verdict on this plastic/ metal beast? Grace your shelves or save space for the Imperial Knight?
@@SpruesNStuds Haha, you've hit the nail on the head! I've been stashing away some funds specifically for the Imperial Knight. Your assessment indicates that the Nemesis Dreadknight is solidly constructed and boasts an impressive level of rigidity. I'm intrigued to see just how far we can push its articulation range while maintaining stability, especially when posing it in larger, more dynamic stances.
Thanks, I would say the two biggest things missing from your channel are: measurements of the figure and size comparisons. Use measuring tape/ruler to show how high and wide the figure is like you did in the Gravis video. Second one is that you need to compare the size of the figure to other JoyToy Figures. Using the same regular intercercessor, terminator, custodes and gravis unit for comparisons in all future videos would allow to give people a better idea of the size of the figure, since most people would own one of those figures. Look at Awesome Action Toys, he is consistent about measuring and comparing to other figures. But when you do size comparisons, just stick to 40k joytoy. He sometimes uses other joytoy figures that I have no idea where they are from. So, for example seeing this next to the redemptor and a gravis captain would have been helpful.
I appreciate the feedback and the support for sure. Keep in mind that all content creators have a different style in which they present their content. That being said, I have a hyper focus on the action figure in question presented because I am a hyper focused GW miniature painter as my background. I do make size comparison videos but that is separate from my review videos as again, I only care about the action figure that is in front of me.
Thanks for the review Sir Sprues, and for spending your hard earned to show us something a lot of us (including myself) cannot really afford right now (plus I'm hanging out for a Rhino in some form). What I REALLY appreciate is your honesty, you are a credible and professional reviewer, and for that, you have our respect. It's easy to "talk up" a figure to alleviate buyers guilt (or your wife's ridicule), but to be honest & point out faults - well, that earns you credit points in my book mate.
CLAP CLAP CLAP!!! That is exactly why this channel exists and I am ecstatic that you and a few others have realized what I am all about. I am just a regular, honest WH40K enjoyer who decided to put his flawed journey through the 40K universe on YT for all to see. You have my deepest thanks!
After taxes…..this model is $420.00 bucks!! Ahh….. I love this franchise as much as the next fan, but groceries are expensive nowadays! And I can’t chew on a model!….Well then again, mabe I can!?!
NGL, I do appreciate the paint job on this figure...I just wish that JT would have chosen another figure to produce at this price point *ahem* Imperial Knight
Thank you! The price tag is definitely a tough bullet to bite especially because this is not a Primarch. I suppose only the most ardent GK fans would blow money on this figure...or a hopeless plastic crack addict like me
Well, I really really hope the designers and creators and artists truly enjoy what they're doing. And I wonder if they realized what the workload was going to be like. I can only imagine how busy they are now and they should remember their own body health so they don't wear themselves out... Thank you !!! To the teams at Joytoy. And thank you for these reviews too. I know their not cheap.
Very nice review, you are correct original listing here in Asia for pre-Oder was around $200, so $350-$400 is pretty much overpriced & is the same price as the mezco mech, which IMHO is better designed & put together with tons of accessories
I took my Dreadknight into the office last week and we got curious how much it weighs, after I had one of the mail room guys gawking at it try picking it up to feel the "subjective weight", so we put it on the mail room's scale to get the actual number: it's a bit over *8 pounds* (while it is standing on the included magnetic base). The waist restraints for the pilot will snap together snugly at the back with him installed only if you first detach the decorations (aka, the scroll and grenade) from his thigh plates, they won't quite close with those still attached.
You took it into the office? That is a bold move...unless if you work with other WH40K fanatics. I actually did not weigh the figure but it is interesting to see that it clocks in at that hefty weight.
I want one for my collection, just cause I love the grey knights. That said price wise I can't pull the trigger. I'll wait and get one of the Adepta Sororita's Penitent Engine's, maybe both. You better be doing vids on at least one of those soon Brother Sprues! May the light of Sanguinis always shine upon you.
Hey man could you do a size comparison between custodes and regular intercessors? They should be taller according to the lore but I'm not sure if the figures are
At some point in time I can. The Allarus terminators are actually true to size compared to the astartes. However, the regular Custodes that were released just recently are not to correct scale compared to the marines
i love the video, but anny chance you know what the two plaques with the daggers are for ? I cant find any location o place them or use them on the is model
This model, thanks to the Aliexpress discounts, 20 € of Koala cashback and that I live in the Canary Islands and they do not charge me VAT tax, cost me 180 euros. For that money it is worth it
@@SpruesNStuds Yes, I always buy with discounts. Aliexpress stores renew their coupons monthly and I always have discounts with Aliexpress coins also. I take the opportunity to place orders of multiple figures together, so that the discount is greater. My last purchase was the 6 Dark Angels Deathwing Terminators. The set was worth €388 and I paid €247. Thanks to this I can afford to have this joytoy collection. If I didn't have the discounts, and would have to pay VAT of 21%, them I would only have half of the figures I have.
My God it's really nice.... Like... They put a lot of effort into making this thing a really good quality display piece as well as something you can totally play with. The only thing... If it's 350-400 dollars they aren't gonna sell a lot of them. If they had instead been willing to make them at a 150- 200 dollar price point they'd probably sell one to damn near EVERY Warhammer fan worldwide... But the thing is ...China doesn't understand the income of the average person worldwide. They think most people in the US are making 2-4000 a week, and so they don't feel like there's any problem charging this... But they're way off. At 200 it'd still be a stretch for a lot of people financially but it's cool enough that they'd save up and get it.
Design of the miniature aside (no fault of JT), the action figure IMO, is rather well executed. As you pointed out the price point is quite steep for most people to afford on something with a flawed design. I think that most people would agree that the teased Imperial Knight action figures are NOT based off of a flawed design and because of that, I think people would be willing to pay Forge World prices for that figure action figure
Thanks for the great, detailed review! Great stuff and very helpful when deciding if I should lay out the cash for this or not. I think you've got your hammers mixed up, though - Voldue comes with the double--winged skull hammer while the regular GK had the scoll-embossed one.
Thank you for the support! I hope that you were able to decide whether this miniature is worth it or not. About the hammer...well, that is the one that JT has provided and you are no stranger in knowing that JT has some QC issues so Voldus's hammer is the one that was provided to me in the dread knight set
I think what you are referring to is the artist proof versions of McFarlane WH40K action figures. The ones that McF produces are the only ones that come without paint
I will say the figure is cool but jesus that price is a bit the quality on a good chunk of it does look good and i love that greyish blue color. The baby carrier part is a little werid but eh. The price is what makes me sqirm on the not buying side especially with how my works been lately. i got lucky with grabbing two Cadian figures due to the 3rd anniversary sale they are doing for another day. First figure i got was a salamander brother figure
Yeah…I agree that the quality is there…but I still have no desire to get it.😅 I see this more as a preview of what to expect from the Imperial Knight…cause that is going to be *even larger* than the Dreadknight, and I wonder how they are going to tackle the articulation on that thing! (….and I bet the price is probably going to push $1k…😛)
1K?!?! damn...thats nuts. I sincerely hope that the IK is going to be in the 400-500 range. I doubt that JT is going to be putting that much quality and detail as the future Weta workshop figures that will be coming out
It does look very cool, but at this pricepoint its probably only relevant to die hard Grey Knight fans. If it were a Baneblade or a Leman Russ i would buy it in a heartbeat 😄
100% correct assessment Brother! This is only suited for GK fanatics however the miniatures that you mentioned are universally loved by most WH40K fans
Haha I don't think that I have ever heard/ read some one say that the legs of the dread knight was cute. That is definitely one way to describe something for sure!
Most people have the same sentiment as you including me. If the action figure was based on a miniature that you really like, you'd pay a decent amount for it. I think case in point would be the teased Imperial Knights. I've always loved the design as well as just the general ethos of the miniature. I have no doubt when JT officially announces that figure it will be expensive but I will be more than glad to fork over good $$$ because I love the faction
I'm still on the fence about the Dreadknight: I love the size and the detail, and I love the Grey Knights, but I just do not love the concept of the suit. That's not on Joytoy, of course!
As many members of the community have stated, this was the biggest design flaw of this action figure which is the miniature that the figure is based off of. No fault on JT because they can only reproduce what has already existed and not modify it which is a slight shame

The GW miniature that this figure is based off of is not that strong. Now if JT actually decided to make a pricey figure *IMPERIAL KNIGHTS* with a universally acclaimed design, I think the negative feedback would be less
