What i'm saying is that he was years ahead of the 800m time progression curve and ran alone (and on a very bad track surface and not a modern track) to set that WR, which lasted for 16 years. Wonyonyi's not in his class and Rudisha's WR is the Bolt effect, long legs and a long stride. Pound for pound Coe is still the best 800m runner i've ever seen.

Just an eyeball estimate, but it looks like Wanyonyi came through 400m in about 50 seconds flat. So it was a fairly evenly paced race.
