- According to a recent poll of NBA executives, Luka Doncic received the most votes as the best player under the age of 25 to build a team around. Fresh off a Conference Finals appearance, the Dallas Mavericks star was listed ahead of the likes of Jayson Tatum, Ja Morant, Zion Williamson, LaMelo Ball and Trae Young. Yeah, but a part of the reason they were even in the position to get to the WCF, was because Porzingis was their second scoring option most of the season. Yeah, he was still trying to get his health back to 100%, but I question the Mavs’ training and medical staff on that. Clearly, they either rushed him back or didn’t have the know how to work with him properly. Even still, KP was still a scoring threat. Add that with the fact that Luka is so ball dominant, and even with all of his assists, missed SEVERAL opportunities to give KP the ball. Also, it seemed as if the only way KP could really get his touches, was if Luka was off the court.
All of that to say this. Let’s see what Dallas looks like without a full season of KP as their second scoring option. I got a feeling they’ll be in for a rude awakening.
Meanwhile, KP is in DC with a potential three-headed monster of Beal, Kuzma, and himself. I don’t see Dinwiddie coming close to that second option.

@@cooleekbrown1728 Outside of his ACL injury, which was really the main injury he was still working on recovering from, those other injuries were no different than what any of the players deal with during the regular season. Matter of fact, people forget that he had been playing for Dallas for several seasons, before this one, amd no one was complaining about injuries then. When he was “Bubble KP”, people seemed to forget about that too.
The fact still remains that he was still their second scoring option, and a damn good one at that.
Most Luka stans don’t want to admit that he’s a ball hog, and again, a liability on defense. Add that with coaching who somehow couldn’t and still can’t convince him to move the ball more, and therein lies the problem. I’ll say it again. Let’s see what he does with an entire season without Porzingis. No other player is going to be the threat that he was.
Porzingis was definitely improving towards the end of the regular, and I would argue that if Dallas kept him, not only would they have still made the WCF, they could’ve pushed that series to seven games.

I just don't want anyone in the states to disrespect euro teams. They play FIBA rules. Handcheck is on, no defensive 3 sec. Big men can stay in paint on defense. Plus most of the euro teams are loaded with NBA players or as the same level as NBA players. And Luka just putting up the same stats he has in the NBA with his national. It is insane. Luka has improved every year and has literally carried his team with no other star since the moment he stepped into the league. He literally walked into the league averaging 21, 7, 6. Career average now are 28 ,8, 8. Ja Morant was barely above a bust until last yr, he was inefficient shooter that couldn't score more than 17 pts. Tatum is nice but he's also a turnover machine, 100 turnovers in one playoff season; that's terrible. Luka has gotten better and was literally an MVP candidate last yr. He's the best young player without doubt.

I'll add, in the Suns series Luka outscored Booker, had more rebounds than Ayton, more assists than Paul and more steals than Bridges.
Skip always says Luca can't shoot and Bird was an amazing shooter. But if you check out Birds stats, Larry started shooting 3's at a 40%+ rate when he was 27. His first 5 seasons he shot 40 %, 27%, 21%, 29, 25%. With on average less than 1 3-pointer per game. Luka has to improve his consistency and efficiency on his 3-point shooting and free throws, but he has still many years to do so.
Skip's dishonesty when it comes to Luka is truly impressive.

You can’t compare the three’s that Luka shoots vs the guys who hang out in the corner and shoot threes when open. Of course they will have a higher 3 point percentage. Luka creates his own shot to shoot the Three. Not many players can do that.
Luka is compared to the best of best and skip is able to see his few flaws despite how great of a player Luka has become. If Luka and everybody else take a second sit back and actually see what he can work on, once he has literally perfected everything and is very consistent in then skip will have nothing to say. I think skip makes these phenomenal players better!

However, I do agree Lebron's percentage from 3 is higher than it should be because teams leave him wide open because his driving is his main threat. While Luka's 3 point percentage is lower than in should be because he is guarded tight on the 3 point line and shoots a lot of difficult shots. Luka to me is more like Iverson. They are great shooters but they shoot so many tough shots that their percentage is easy to nit pick but I'd rather have Luka or Allen Iverson shoot a contested jump shot then Lebron a wide open jump shot.

Put up the best numbers at the pg position last season. Averaged 28 and 10 on elite guard efficiency despite being the only person on the Hawks that can dribble the basketball without staring at it. Having another ball handler should keep teams from sending 2-3 people at him the moment he crosses half court and not getting punished for it like Miami did.
