I love how the enemies have that still frame when hit with the ninja stars or needle abilities. It's just so satisfying.
I remember using NOTHING but the exploding shurikens as a kid. The coolest combo.
Agreed. That one was always my favourite along with the flaming sword combining cutter with fire. I think cutter was overall the most versatile.

Raffaele Vitali it's kinda a downer when comparing it to other cutter abilities from other Kirby games. Instead of launching 3 blades at a time, in this game it's only once. Wish they executed the cutter ability better in Kirby 64.

These are all so creative for such an old game. Glad to see it returned somewhat in Star Allies.
actually you can fuse any weapon ability with any element, like ice hammers ad stuff but there also are some exeptions like geokinisis with ESP an rock but these are more like "special moves" but if we look at some of the ones in crystal shards those could tecnically be considered abilities for that game standards
+Emilio Da Paz Guess what? No one cares. It's still ability mixing with effects and differently animated attacks. Kirby 64's ability mixing is IMPOSSIBLE to bring back to the fullest. It was unbalanced, severely limited the use of the regular abilities, there's a shit ton of abilities and only made the mixed abilities have one move which doesn't work in this current moveset Kirby system.
There's like... 20-30 abilities now. Combining them all, every single one has OVER 100. You're fucking crazy if any developer can do that. There's such a thing as "time" and "resources". Not being lazy.

Seriously, the fire sword let you hold it upward and even throw it, making it an all-round better weapon/ability choice, and all you could do with the lightsaber was spin and twirl...

The bomb-cutter was a super OP ability. Its essentially a hitscan weapon with no actual projectile. If any enemy is within the horizontal view range infront of kirby, it will get hit no matter how far you are.

Stone/Cutter was always my fave, especially when you became the little bird. You were basically invincible and could sail through tricky spots.
The bird's name is Pitch and the first game he appeared in is Kirby's Dreamland 3. The appearance of him is a Cameo
Bomb+Fire has always been my favorite. It has a long range in all directions and you can actually keep moving at the same speed while you use it.
Combining copy abilities is the reason this is my favorite Kirby game.

You can feel the detail and effort and just all out love that they poured into this game and alot of these are cute and fit with kirby cutesy vibe I wish more game allowed you to combo abilitys
Kirby shapeshifting to become a bow or grow a massive claw with teeth from his arms is just really weird considering how he mostly always wears costumes that explain the ability and how he summons objects instead of becoming said objects

Damn this game was amazing it had so many combinations even you can combine the same ability for a stronger one. The fact this N64 game can do all this and this ability idea wont even be tried again until Kirby Squeak Squad shows how good this game is!
Thank you for a nostalgic trip back to my kid days. I think this was the first game that my parents ever bought me and I remeber playing it on christmas when I got it with the N64. My grandparents were there and my dad helped me defeat the first boss who I think was a friend of Kirby who got corrupted. I didn't know how to defeat him (I was seven years old then) and my dad simply said: "Spit the star on him" and it worked :D

Honestly I think Pitch is the best Animal Buddy statue. Let’s look at the alternatives, SHALL WE?
Rick is only useful in wall scaling situations
Coo is Pitch but he suffers something the others do as well (I’ll get onto that in a second)
Kine is honestly made to be useless. There is no way he is useful, even in water despite being a fish.
Nago is Rick but he can’t even wall scale
And Chu Chu can only jump.
Pitch, in the other hand, isn’t able to walk like Rick or Nago, but he does have some ground movement (the rock rolling) and he actually has a very unique property: He’s fast. The others suffer from slowness. In most situations, Kirby is much better for finishing the level quickly. Pitch is faster than Kirby however and almost the only quality that would make you want the Animal Buddies ability.

The cutter + electric has always been my favorite since goes it makes Kirby go all Darth Maul on his enemies.
I prefer the single power with a whole array of moves you can do like we see in Super Star, but I liked seeing what all of these were when I was playing, was really funny to see Kirby turn in to a fridge and things like that.
When it comes to mix abilities, Kirby is the best game to show how awesome are!
This is the kind of game mechanic that wasn't really uses that much.
That would be great if we can have this in modern Kirby games with the new abilities.

Honourable mention (s): Burning Bomb, Bomb Needle and Stone Cutter
Every Bomb combo portrayed by Star Allies:
Bomb + Bomb: Doctor Kirby or Chemitory (Doctor friend) holds up 2 beakers, has 2 bombs thrown at each one (by Poppy Bros Jr. or Bomb Kirby), then mixes the two potions together, and creates a Tri-Missile Launcher, which is given to Poppy Bros Jr. or Bomb Kirby.
Burning + Bomb: Works the same as Bomb + Bomb at the start, but instead fire is put into one of the beakers, and then Doctor Kirby or Chemitory gives firework powers to Poppy Bros Jr. or Bomb Kirby.
Bomb + Cutter (called Explosive Ninja Stars for a reason): Ninja Kirby or Bio Spark uses Friend Ability, then Poppy Bros Jr. or Bomb Kirby throws a bomb at Bio Spark or Ninja Kirby, who then makes it into explosive ninja stars.
Ice + Bomb: Blizzard Bomb Mode Robobot Waddle Dee's bombs will look like that explosive snowman. (Note: Robobot Waddle Dee is a Dream Friend.)
Needle + Bomb: Poppy Bros Jr. or Bomb Kirby uses Friend Ability, then Needle Kirby or Togezo (Needle friend) hops on, creating a Spike Bomb out of them, which is thrown by Poppy Bros Jr. or Bomb Kirby.
Bomb + Spark: Zap Bomb Mode Robobot Waddle Dee's bombs will look like light bulbs.
Stone + Bomb: Poppy Bros Jr. or Bomb Kirby uses Friend Ability, then Stone Kirby or Rocky hops on, creating dynamite, and the Friend Ability is.... never mind. I'm tired.
