      Yeah definitely. It works with S35 sensors with approx 1.1-1.2x cropping to remove the very slight vignetting.
      It works great on both my FS7 (S16 and S35) and with my A6600 (S35). Would work just as well on a FX30 ☺️👌

    Excellent presentation, very thorough and to the point. What are the 35mm full frame equivalent focal lengths of the various potential kits in different formats? For AFL football 24-400mm+ is ideal. Will any of your kits offer that range? Exited :)

    • @jamesandcamera
      @jamesandcamera  9 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Hey Benny, thanks for your support.
      As far as the FF equivalent focal lengths to the kits, they should easily cover the long end of the range of 24-400mm equiv.
      The Canon J21x7.8 f1.8 shown in this video has an approx full frame equivalent focal range of 28-570mm. Then if you are in S16 and can use the doubler to gain extra zoom range it goes up to approx 1000mm worth of reach
      Another example the Canon J16x8 f1.8 I tested is a full frame equivalent of approx 28-448mm again doubler could be engaged for extra reach if you are capturing in S16 mod. In S35 mode in each case you just get the base range of the lenses as the doubler just provides sensor coverage rather than extra range.
      Thanks for the question :)

      For the lens support, yes I custom make them to fit the specific lens. Definitely worth using as it secured the lens in 4 directions. Compared to a more typical support that just gives support from 1 direction (underneath). Hi James just found your videos on TH-cam. Not sure you can help but here's my situation. I use a Panasonic GH5 to shoot surfing video in 4K. I have a Canon YJ19x8B 9-171mm ENG lens. It has a doubler built in and works great. But, I've noticed some small smudge like dots when I use the doubler. It looks clean without the doubler. I haven't been able to get rid of them with cleaning. So, I suspect it's on the inner elements. I also have a Canon YH18x6.7 ENG lens but there's no doubler and the ENG to MFT adapter dosen't fit it either.The Lens looks immaculate. Do you have an adapter that would make it useable on the GH5? Would the adapter have a 2x converter on it? I'd loose some telephoto range but it would work for me if I could adapt it. Thanks John Beattie

    • @jamesandcamera
      @jamesandcamera  วันที่ผ่านมา +1

      Hey John,
      It's probably mold or similar on the doubler element. Could be worth trying to disassemble and clean if you have some basic lens tech skills.
      I can't help you with the YH unfortunately, that is a 1/2" lens rather than 2/3" B4. The image circle is much smaller, flange depth is much shorter and the mounts look similar but are not compatible. I only play in the 2/3" B4 space as it's much easier to adapt.
      I do know RA adapters make/made a 1/2" adapter with a 2x element, but it is not corrected for a clean image.
      Best bet is it clean the YJ or replace with another clean 2/3" lens with doubler.
      Good luck 🤞☺️

    • @jamesandcamera
      @jamesandcamera  2 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Hi, glad you found value in the series 😊
      For B4-PL optical correcting adapters, the best option is the IBE 1.4x. it's very expensive though. The other option is by MTF at a lower cost but from what people have told me, less image quality.
      The 1.1-1.5x magnification ratio with correction is what suits S16 sensors/film size best.
      Be aware that all the B4-PL correcting adapters have parts that protrude deep into the mount, so check clearance of mirror box etc before mounting/running the camera to make sure it won't obstruct or damage the mirror/shutter. Same goes for anyone reading this reply thinking to B4-PL adapt to a DSLR.
      Hope that helps. I haven't personally got around to doing much in the B4-PL space. But have put a lot of thought into it.😊🤙

      And what is your website? Would like to have a look, but can‘t find it.

      @@Lugo1993 no problem, I try my best to give as much info as I know. It is a difficult niche to research.
      I don't make a B4-PL version yet unfortunately. It is quite a bit more difficult than adapting to mirrorless mounts.
      I have plans to make one, but I think it will be atleast 6 months+ till I have made my prototype and maybe a year till I make them for others to be able to buy.
      It is a slow process as it is just me doing all the designing/making of the adapters in my spare time between my Cinematographer job and family.
      I don't have a website, all those sorts of things cost money, which raises the cost of the adapters. I am trying to keep overheads at $0 to keep the adapter costs as affordable as possible for owner operators. If I sold them on a website or eBay I would have to raise prices 13%+ to cover fees and charges that the website takes.

    Thank you so much for the incredibly informative video. I have a question. Would a Metabones speedbooster with a B4 to EF adapter ring function in a similar way? My Speedbooster is EF to MFT.

    • @jamesandcamera
      @jamesandcamera  3 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Hey, glad you enjoyed the video. Unfortunately not, speed boosters don't correct for an RGB focal offset.
      They also condense the optical path, which shrinks the projected image size.
      Whereas you need to expand the projected image from a 2/3" B4 lens as it is projecting too small for any common CMOS sensor camera.
      That's why the optical corrector, expands the image 1.1x (some do a higher expansion too) so that the small projection size is enlarged to fill a larger sensor. It also has special coatings on the optics which align the RGB wavelengths to correct the offset.
      Additionally I have tried using a metabones speed booster in my very early tests with the idea, and it actually makes the image worse 😬. Better image quality from just using a lenses built in doubler on its own for a small correction.

      @@mynameis9389 No plans to make one for full frame. It is by far the most asked question I have got. Unfortunately people do not understand the physics of what they are asking. Expanding the image to cover FF requires approx 4x-4.5x image expansion.
      The main thing is you are taking a f1.8 lens, and reducing the light transmission so much that it will be the brightness of approx T10+ when the iris is set wide open.
      Making the lens harder to use at night or even just indoors without using a a high ISO degrading the captured image with noise.
      Expansion to S16 makes for T2.5 approx. and expansion to S35 makes for T5.6 approx.
      The best option is to use an old FS7/FS5 or if you absolutely must have a full frame camera, use an FX9 with FF, S35 and S16 scan modes.
      I might make a limited batch of FF converters in the future but you should be aware of the limitations from the laws of physics 🥸

      I can make the adapter to fit the Micro4/3 mount. As far as coverage of the sensor goes, you will need to find out for yourself if the GH5 has a S16 size scan mode or is able to clear image zoom to an equivalent crop for it to work.
      The J15x9.5 is quite an old SD lens, I would recommend something newer for a better image quality. I have just tested a Fuji 7x7 from around the same time and it only really got decent image quality at f4 with a corrected adapter. Where newer SD lenses perform well from f2.8.

      Hey Alex, first I would need to know the exact model code (eg: Canon J16x8B4-...) of the lens to make sure it is worth you going through all the trouble 👍
      The optical correcting adapters I customise can work with 2/3" B4 lenses and convert them with corrections and a slight image expansion to Sony E mount and other mirrorless mounts. There are other manufacturers who make more expensive optical adapters too such as IBE, MTF, Abakus, Sony and Canon.
      I do NOT recommend Fotodiox for B4 adapters, from my experience I don't think they are optically correct and don't produce a clean enough image.
      The adapter I customise is optically corrected and cleans up the image so that is like using on a native B4 3CCD camera. It suits S16 sensor sizes and can cover 98% of a S35 sensor when using a lenses inbuilt doubler. It is perfectly suited to FS7/FS5/FX9 with their S16 center scan mode and S35 capture mode.
      Hope that helps 😊👌
