Okay. A lot of people say this is just a copy of Defect. This is obviously false. In Defect, the robot sniper just sorta comes to life randomly. In this SFM, the robot scout has probably been working at that incinerator place since the day it was made. Being in a place like that for so long, and seeing all these other bots get thrown away like trash, is gonna affect it. It’s called Artificial Feelings because the scout didn’t just “wake up” and feel stuff one day. It gained these feelings after seeing its own kind treated like garbage. Literally.
Edit: Please don’t fight each other in the comments over grammar. This comment was just made to support the creator of the SFM and to clear up something that seemed to be clouding the judgement of others. I still appreciate the support though, thank you.

I guess this really shows how RED would really react to seeing a robot, and really what kind of people the mercs are. That, as many animations don't depict - they're mercenaries, doing a job. To them.. an enemy is an enemy, nothing more. And that video really does show that.

Hello, I watched this only yesterday and it felt like I was starting a good book. Honestly, I didn't shed a tear but it did evoke deep and confused feelings about the scoutbot, the scout, and the mercs which I think is really what I want. It's intellectual.
We feel sympathy over the scoutbot because we saw its fear and pain before escaping the incineration plant, into a natural pasture. Who wouldn't like a vacation from their soul-sucking 7-4 jobs?
The scout, the youngest of the mercs, hesitated to do anything. The bots were their enemies, yet here was one holding his ball out to him like a kind stranger. Then the mercs came, and destroyed it mercilessly while the scout was frozen, unable to act. What really gets me is demo's shoulderpat at the end as if telling the scout, and by extension us, that this is the unbreakable order of things, of war: enemies are cruel to each other.
This needs more upvotes.
It's the truth, these mercenaries are no less human than the robots they're fighting.

I never see the mercs as villains in this, they didn’t know. They didn’t see it be friendly to scout. Demomans shoulder pat to me felt like a “your alright now” to me
Me neither but I don't see them as good guys either because basically that robo scout was unarmed and tossing the ball to scout he even looked like he doesn't want to fight but they killed him anyway. They might not know but they could use their head what was going on or ask the scout if he somehow threatened him or hurt him or something.

Some backstory is apparently necessary, since people are being quite rude about this;
I've had this idea for 3-ish+ years, I didn't make it before because I was horrible at SFM and I loved the idea so much that I didn't want to ruin it with bad animation and improper storytelling. It has absolutely NOTHING to do with Defect, no inspiration drawn from, not a similar story, the only thing in common is that the main focus is robots and it's a drama.
Saying it's a copy of defect is like saying that it's impossible for people to have similar ideas without drawing from one another, which is obviously untrue. I don't even think I had even seen Defect before yesterday when I looked it up to see what people were talking about.
+Ardy i really don't know why people are sometimes rude about dramas ending sad like how in yours when the scout tried to be nice to the RED mercs like the scout but they all beat the living #### out of the robot scout and it showed the remains of it on the conveyor belt.

I actually cried to this. I wished their was even more sfm's of these bots, they just want to live and feel like us all. These kinda bots are programmed wrong, so they have their own feelings and stuff. Scout could've saved Scoutbot's life, but he was to scared. Thank you for reading this reader!

Small opinion here:
The reason why Scout didn't just immediately kill Scoutbot, is because Scoutbot was handing him his Ball like a random kind stranger, y'know? He might be an asshole or a jerk at times, he's still a human and the youngest member of the Mercs. And, the reason why the other Mercs immediately killed the Scoutbot, is because.. Well, they're enemies. They are mercenaries, and for all they know, this could be a trick from Grey Mann, to act friendly then backstab them. Yes, Scoutbot is weak in and of itself, but a gun is a gun, a weapon is a weapon. Humans are fragile, and they can't risk it.

This is really cool. I like how artistic it is, and how it seems to emphasize the fact that the robots in MvM aren't doing what they do because they want to. They're doing it because it's what they're told to do. I like this idea of the robots being sentient and wanting to do their own thing.
Watching both Defect and Artificial Feelings makes me wanna tear up and cry in despair. Such talent. 😔
This is really good and really well animated. If anything could be different, maybe just the ending:
-Alternate ending 1 - have the story finish at 3:29. That's a more poetic ending than the shot of the factory and we don't need to see the sweeper. You could probably also cut 2:47-2:58 since we know what's about to happen, and maybe we don't need rain for the same reason.
-Alternate 2 - Scout and robo-scout's hands never touch, but their eyes meet; at 3:26 instead of the hand maybe it should be robo-scout's head, and the butterfly should land on the head as the final shot.
-3.1 - at 3:04 Scout walks over to pick up the ball, and then in the same shot he places it in robo-scout's hand. We never see Scout's face, and we only hear him walking away, and after he leaves the butterfly lands on the ball
-3.2 - Scout picks up the ball, balances it on the open hand, and after he walks away the hand moves and grips the ball
-Alternate 4.1 Scout picks up the ball, and then the butterfly lands on the ball in Scout's hand. Scout looking at the butterfly is the last shot
-4.2 The butterfly lands on the ball for a moment, then flies away. Scout looking at the ball and the wreckage is the final shot
All of that is just a maybe. I like the story.

that is one of the best movies ever made. I really love these types of content creators, who still take their time to make amazing content in the end.
What i love about this animation (this is coming from a crappy animator) is that it makes you care about this character in a matter of seconds. It's an expressionless robot but you feel emotions, you feel remorse for a character that doesn't say a single word or do anything significant but you care about them. That's really powerful to me. Getting all that detail into a character that doesn't do much or say anything is really powerful, and probably hard to do. From one animator to another, great job Ardy.

I liked the concept. To be honest I'm disappointed with the ending. It's sad that it just ends on that note. I felt it had potential. What happened with giant robot heavy? Why didn't scout do anything?
Giant robot heavy isn't a main character, nothing goes on with him. He makes sure all the scouts work the conveyer belts like they're supposed to, if they show signs of breaking, he crushes them and adds them to the scrap pile. What could scout do? They're all afraid of the heavy, I think you may have missed the point of the video. You wanted a different story than I was telling, but that could never have happened because this is how the story goes, I'm sorry bud :/

I want to hear the giant robot heavy's footsteps for an hour his footsteps are satisfying to listen
I feel like the last scene was unnecessary. Robo scout was already implied "dead" due to lack of any kind of motion. Showing him being sent to the incinerator is just killing him a second time. Should have ended it on the butterfly landing.
Not unnecessary because it was my creation and it's important for the sequel.
If it was that important to send robo scout to the incinerator, then perhaps it would have been better to still show him as slightly alive as real scout walked away. It would even have given the opportunity for real scout to actively turn his back on someone he could have potentially saved, whether he realized it or not.
Now obviously the above is my opinion, and not everyone is going to think the same way. Even so, don't fall into the trap of "my creation" hubris. If you want to tell a story so that other people will gain something from it, you need to consider how those other people might think. It's impossible to make something everyone will appreciate, but if you're only making the story for yourself then it's not going to reach nearly as far.
Reason why they sent him into the incinerator was like the Defect_ Robo-sniper. He was useless to Gray Mann, and was attacked by RED Team, just like the Robo-scout. It's all because they were defects. Gray Mann didn't want them to have 'feelings'.
My point was that if you're looking for emotional payoff from sending Robo-scout to the incinerator, you've already used up that emotional payoff by implying he died earlier. Robo-sniper blew himself up at the end of Defect_ to save Robo-heavy, we didn't then see Robo-sniper's remains being fed into an incinerator. We got a single emotional payoff for his death. In this video he ended up with 2 separate "death" scenes for a single character, the second death isn't going to be as emotionally strong because that character is already dead.

Pros I saw:
-Good lighting. Makes the video nicer
-Animation is great.
-Da feels...
-Each character expresses tons of emotion, even the robots, which is funny, because they don't have emotions (It honestly makes the animation better, though.) x3
-Nice details (Dogtag shakes, birds & butterflies, etc.)
Flaws I saw:
-RED Scout sliding was floaty
-Was that hand in the ground @ 3:06? I'm not sure if this is a flaw, since some things sink into sand a bit.
-Plot is a bit unclear. What was that butterfly? The BLU Scout's spirit, just like (spoiler alert) Chloe in LiS? What was that blue robot at the end?
Great job. This is getting my vote, Ardy, even though I might be biased as a fan of yours, it's great.
+Komplicated Kevin The robot at the end, im guessing, is supposed to collect the rest of robots to put in the conveyor belt, that's why you see the rest of the robot scout on the conveyor belt.
