  • Today, I find some time to show you my experience with the ZKE Tech EBC-A20 Capacity Tester and charger. At first glance, it seems like one of the many devices you can buy to test all kind of batteries. BUT this tester can do sooooo much more! When connecting to a computer, it shows its full potential and you cannot only set all parameter for your test within the software but it also draws beautiful graphs of your battery test. This makes the learning experience so much more fun and helps us understanding the LiFePO4 chemistry a lot better.
    Leave some comments about what kind of test we should run with this tester, software and the battery.

    I have a Professional BK Electronics 600W electronic load being an electronics engineer. It has loads of load functions and various for batteries with software for graphs etc. BUT. what it doesn't have is a charging and graphing function. That little tester being able to do charging and discharging and graph it all plus other function for that price it brilliant. I payed over £1K for my pro unit. I will be looking at one of those as I'm now looking into solar. Great videos, keep them coming.

    Constant power is similar to many electronic loads that use a DC:DC or a DC:AC converter. The output of the converter will be regulated so the load doesn't respond to battery voltage implicitly as would something like a simple heater (aka incandescent light bulb).

    Andy, could you please tell us what the "sunny day" open circuit voltage is for the problem system, at the breakers before the charge controller, with the charge controller isolated.
    Expecting around 135.6v for the Suntech 190w panels.
    With the charge controller isolated and no current flow any less and there is a leakage problem on the panels. If we have the voltage then the controller is suspect.
    We keep seeing voltages at the charge controller of around 78.78v which is 58% of Voc. Clearly not good.
    I also note that when you were looking at the history the two controllers showed differing battery voltages. Not much but I thought they would both be linked to the shunt.
    Thanks

    Great minds think alike. I have the EBC-A40L as well, 40 amp charge and discharge in one unit, it works well for me. I managed to find it under $200 (US dollars) including shipping. I had to wait nearly 3 months for delivery, and now the vendor has increased both the price and the shipping cost. If you have a lot of cells to test, it is just the thing you need. Hey Andy,
    I just received the tester that I bought and it came, according to the power supply 220VAC. Is there a way to convert this to 120VAC because in the use we use 120VAC. Would you kindly advise me on this?

    Hi, thanks for the info, RE software, I read somewhere that megacellmonitor software works with this tester, have you compared it, have you tested the EBD A20H.would that be better option if only wanting to test capacity and condition of my 3 year old 200ah lithium caravan battery.thanks

    • @OffGridGarageAustralia
      @OffGridGarageAustralia  5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Never heard of this other software. The Battery Tester Software works well and collects all the data and info needed.
      The EBD-A20H is only a capacity tester, not a charger, and has the same price as the EBC-A20, which can also charge. So don't see the point of buying just the discharger when I can have the charger as well, even it is only 5A.
      Thanks for your email btw, which I saw briefly if you're are the same guy...

      Thanks David. The CBA4 is limited to 100W continuously only but can handle up to 40A (depending max power).

    Hi Andy, I was also looking to buy this tester, but the problem was the listing said it can handle only 85W max Charge/Discharge. So we can't discharge a 12V battery at 20A and if I want to test a 12/24V battery it will take a lot of time and the load is too less. Can you please test it for us, if it's true? I dunno why they couldn't make it 180W like the other cheap ones!

    • @OffGridGarageAustralia
      @OffGridGarageAustralia  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes, the tester has a power limit of 85W or so. Depending on the capacity of the battery, the test could run for a long time. They have other testers (without charging) which can handle higher power.

    Folks, I mean no disrespect. Andy is a excellent educator with a great open, friendly attitude. My only beef is with EVERY solar video I see. Solar is not green, dependable or affordable. The equipment you CAN afford is CE certified ( ridiculous ) and made in China. Wonder why people have solar sheds ? Equipment made in China is unsafe. So, for any newbie ONLY power the shed, I advise you place anything of value somewhere else. Don’t expect the power you produce will be anywhere near as cheep as mains ! The energy it took to create and the effort to dispose the poisonous chemicals in panels, inverters and batteries will null any “green” credit. In one year I have had a controller and 24 volt inverter fail. Garbage ! It is a far more balanced deal to buy a generator that runs on propane. I consider a solar system with ANY battery a bad deal. Grid tie inverters are better but could cause major issues with the power companies. Just want people to know some fax before investing. I have 20 years of experience with DC circuits. I haven’t done cycle test on any battery yet, but I used discharging constant-current and charging constant voltage modes. The computer refuses to connect to the tester while its running, so you have to connect it at the very beginning. If you plan to use it for 3 months continuous, maybe disconnect the display from PC to reduce power.

    Without knowing the rating of the load used by the manufacturer used in their capacity rating you can't make comparisons with your own measurements. If you doubt this try this simple experiment. Buy a pack of 4 AA batteries and discharge one at 2amps, one at 1amps, one at 500ma and the other at 100ma and you will up end up with different capacity measurements. Or more simply put, a battery's capacity is dependent on the load it's driving.
