  • It’s the global Netflix phenomenon which has introduced millions to the terrifying and thrilling world of free-diving - but given the risks, why do so many decide to plunge to incredible depths whilst holding their breath? Today we’re joined by Britain’s leading free diver Gary McGrath. The world record holder has previously held his breath for over three minutes, and dived to depths of more than 100m. I feel it is very difficult to feel this sport just by hearing words from people. I’d love to try it if there’s a chance to meet myself deep in the ocean

Recreational free-diving is much better day in the water...This level of FD is for purists and crazies.

This, like the Titan disaster, is completely stupid. Serves absolutely no purpose whatsoever. And just like the foolish Titan deaths, this is the same thing. Bored thrill seeking nonsense. No admiration at all from me.

What an absolute ignorant rant you're on! Maybe you should try educating yourself a little on the sport, before talking such nonsense

@@redeyedgopher Well that's a ridiculous question. First things first: in the 6th and 7th grade, I tested at sophomore university level, so one does not need to do stupid things to accomplish that, prove anything. My IQ and EQ are also high. Let's see, I started traveling with parents, and then the world at 17, no parents, backpacked and camped in Europe, ended up living there, most travels done alone, speak foreign languages. I've been on helicopters and oil rigs, skiing in the mountains, for just a few examples, none of which were "controlled;" my employment history is just as diverse, and involved mastering English, French and Norwegian, and I was also a freelance interpreter and translator. I could go on, but if you've tested YOURSELF, there's no need for me to explain more. If you haven't, well then, get busy...and don't do stupid things to impress anyone or prove anything. Being dead is permanent. Stupid doesn't have to be.

@@redeyedgopher If you listened to what he said, we don't dive alone in this sport. Everything we do is in a controlled environment. We test our limits regularly with a team of safety divers ready to step in if needed. Perhaps you should just take up chess, and stay away from all other sports that may put you at risk of injury. If you don't like the sport, don't do it
