Robert Hartwick I to was born in 1920 and I also Played the trumpet. I'm 93 and I've long since stopped playing and lost track of Clark but this much I can say. He was one of the greatest trumpeters and if he's no longer with us.then He's making beautiful music for the Angels.
@Barry Johnson He was even in a cartoon. One of the greatest things on TH-cam is that you can type in "Stardust" and each version is like a completely different piece of music.
You can tell its Clark in two notes. True artistry, a wonderful human being, an inspiration to those near and far and the sweetest swinging cat who ever walked up. Just listen to joy in his playing.
Saw the movie last week in Philly with my son,2 grandsons, and my wife and daughter- in - law Keep on keepin On with Clark and young blind piano student protégée. Great heart, great movie. See it you will cherish every minute.
Clark was simply a great man. He could express his feelings and emotions with skill on his trumpet. It's not just the skill- it's what lies beneath that surface.
Gorgeous! Clark is one of the best jazz Flugel players on the planet, and that's one of the best interpretations of Hoagy Charmichael's wonderful song I ever heard of. Well, Clark is one of the finest players in the jazz ballad genre. Bravo!
I was with clark in LA in 1974 and just at the front of him I could appreciate all of him.The technique, his unique sound and things like to play with only the mouthpiece or doubling the flugel in one hand with the muted trumpet in the other.I asked him about all and his answer was :I like the challenge!!!
The best of the best, my man for the flugelhorn, a master of trumpet and flugelhorn playing, a excellent music director, teacher and human being person.
My favourite tune ever, played by that genius Clark Terry, along with those incredible musicians. Makes one so happy to hear such beautiful sounds. Well done
As a matter of interest, the full personnel was as follows. Dizzy Gillespie, Clark Terry, Coleman Hawkins, Zoot Sims, James Moody, Teddy Wilson, Louis Bellson, Bob Cranshaw, Benny Carter and T-Bone Walker. What a line up.
Got to him play Stardust at the JATP in Symphony Hall in Boston in 1967 with the Oscar Pettersen trio and the Duke Ellington Orchestra which also featured Colman Hawkins, Benny Carter, Zoot Sims, Laurence Brown ,Cat Anderson and Ella Fitzgerald... what at a MAGNIFICENT memory ! Thanks for posting...
Wow! I remember enjoying listening to Clark when he would sit in with the Tonight Show band. I know it might be cliche to say but they truly don't make em' like that anymore. He was truly one of a kind.
And CT is STILL all about TASTE...he is very much alive & well, passionately spreading his wizardry from his bedside for those who are so very fortunate to study with him. He'll often go from early morning till well past midnight, scat-singing phrases to his students over & over, and not stopping till every note is a work of art. He is truly the EnerJazzer Bunny and we love him dearly!! :)
I was just listening to Clifford Brown's rendition, comparing it with this one, and I've heard the bad news just now. RIP :( you will live on through your music.
Hoagy Carmichael has said that he was inspired by the improvisations of Bix Beiderbecke when he wrote Stardust. In this performance Clark Terry has fulfilled that inspiration.
Carmichael's original key for Stardust was D. (I have a copy of his original notation.) It's not in C as most fake books have it. So this group split the difference, lol.
As I've shared in other comments, players like Bobby Hackett, Buck Clayton, Johnny Hodges, Ben Webster (among others) had one thing in common: unerring TASTE.
Wow, wish we could hear Clark Terry play, Feels So Good on flugelhorn...he has a great flugel vocabulary. Maybe he did play FSG on flugel...will research it.
This was filmed in November 1966 when JATP was touring England. I went to see them at the Royal Fesival Theatre in London and still have the programme and ticket stub. The admission price was 10/6 which probably equates th about 50 cents!!
He's playing in D flat concert. I saw him with Bob Brookmeyer at the Half Note and he played this on flugel, the only time in the entire evening he played ther horn as opposed to trumpet. A memorable evening with Roger Kellaway, Bill Crow and Dave Bailey.

Greatest pop song ever with magical lyrics played by a magician. Thank goodness for TH-cam .

Wow! I remember enjoying listening to Clark when he would sit in with the Tonight Show band. I know it might be cliche to say but they truly don't make em' like that anymore. He was truly one of a kind.
Jim Baker He was in that band for a number of years.
More than beautiful!
Just pure beauty in this solo by one of all time greats, thanks
I think this is the most beautiful and original interpretations of Stardust I have ever heard. ❤️

He appeared here several times and was always great. His vocal "Mumbles" and his swinging jazz was THE MOST!

Thanks Clark
Awesome!!!
This is where it's at man...
One of the last of the greats....RIP....
Clark Terry is Unic. The best trompet player ever.
Flugelhorn, clearly.
I hope you were kidding.
Underrated player. Better than most "legends" skill wise some uneducated musicians and trumpet players love.
Well, there are plenty of greats, but Clark Terry is one of the finest fluegle horn players I've ever heard.
Not underrated by trumpet players.
Mr. Terry speaks his own language on the horn; but fortunately for us, he is his own skillful interpreter!
Mosaic Classics
Love this song.
A beautiful rendition of Stardust by Clark Terry on a Fluegelhorn.
I always wish I had seen Bobby Hackett whom I admired greatly. Did manage to see Earl Hines several times though.
O mais fantástico som de fluguel que já escutei, parece outro som, mas a interpretação mais linda desta música para mim, é a do Clifford Brown.
Fabulous !
The greatest trp player ever
RIP Mr. Terry.
En honor a este gran trompetista que acaba de dejarnos para siempre sin embargo permanecera en el recuerdo a través de su herencia musical qepd
indiscutible . excelent.

Hoagy Carmichael has said that he was inspired by the improvisations of Bix Beiderbecke when he wrote Stardust. In this performance Clark Terry has fulfilled that inspiration.
Super turbo Awesome!!!!
This is great. Gosh, they played it in D-flat. -- Fantastico!

Nossa! que arranjo viu. Isso é um clássico.
Sempre tem br em vídeo de trompetista kkkkk
The trumpet king
I'm going to learn this by ear
I mumbled something when I was lucky to shake Mister Terry's hand.
I Hope you never whash your hands since that.
Insuperabile!!!

It got real soul.
Happy birthday, CT. Beautiful playing
Impresionante, de mis favoritos.
Amazing
Great.
I actually saw him at Spokane Falls about 83
Check out Terry's 1953 version with Ellington in a Strayhorn arrangement.
Remember reading a story about the 1969 New York Mets Tommie Agee and Don Clendenon talking about his music
sad loss, RIP!
Обладаю всех трубачей - Они все Супппперррр!!!
Clark is what Erenst Berendt (a famous jazz writer)said: Clark Terry is a trumpet player allaround.Capable of anything....
If this doesn't move you, are you even alive?
