On today's episode of Locked On Kentucky, Lance Dawe takes a look at four-star Jeremiah Fears, who just decommitted from the Illinois Fighting Illini and reclassified to this year's class. The Kentucky Wildcats have one more scholarship available on roster. Would Fears be a good fit for the Wildcats?
Dawe answers an interesting listener question about the Kentucky basketball 2024 schedule. I’m just glad KY has a coach that knows how to coach: X and O’s. Pope is the man for the job!
I think we are gonna shock the world this year. Without question, experience means so incredibly much in the NCAA. I think we go into the tournament as a 3 seed and make it to at least the final 8. I truly think everyone is underestimating what experience means in college basketball!

They have no stud inside like Randle or Davis. They have mid major and Big 12 transfers who aren't good enough to get drafted first round. And a few white freshmen. There's no way they are better than last year's team. About the same with maybe one tournament win.

Duke will be the barometer to the season, my prediction is we win that game. I think and predict that we beat Clemson also. We have every piece times 2. This year is our year. Rick helped him do it. I’m glad we can as a fan base love our new head coach. The Pope is here!
I really believe UK is gonna be much better than believed. However the SEC is gonna be brutally good next year.

I think Pope is good for Kentucky basketball
They do not need Fears, he apparently brings too much baggage and has to many demands.
I don't think him not being a good 3 pt shooter is a bad thing. Good drivers collapses defenses to open good shooters
Now!! you say Fears can't shoot, we have other guards on this team that are not great shooters from the 3 point line. Butler, Oweh, for example. He could learn from their guidance for a year. I, for one, would like to see him at the Kentucky for the future.

If he stays in 25 we have a shot. If he definitely re classes I think he goes elsewhere. He de-committed from Illinois because of Riley. He won't play a ton his freshman year. Don't rule out St. Johns if he's re-classes.
I have heard more about Illinois basketball last 2 years than I ever have. They must really be trying to build there.

I think I can't get them
Kentucky needs Fears like they need to go on probation. Totally unnecessary. With Butler, Kriisa and Perry there aren't enough minutes to go around at the PG position as it is. Not to mention they have offered a couple of guys for next year already that are PGs, and Peterson is saying that he wants to play the point.
I know irrational Kentucky fans will want him "just because he's a top 35 player"....but with what they already have and who they are targeting for next year, I just don't see the need for Fears. That 13th scholarship would be better put to use on another big man....that is the area that they are thin at (either a 5 or a stretch 4).
Kriisa is the only true point gaurd, and he is turnover prone. It wouldn't hurt to sure up the PG position with a supposedly good defender. They really have depth everywhere on this team, so it's hard to imagine where someone expecting to play immediately would fit
Butler played the 2 guard at SDSU primarily out of necessity. They had another true PG on the roster but nobody else who was a competent starting SG, and Butler was definitely going to start. However, Butler also played the point at San Diego State and will probably be the starting PG for Kentucky this year. Perry played SG in high school because his team relied on him for scoring rather than distribution and ball handling, and against high school competition in the state of Kentucky a 6'2" SG is fine, but in college going against SEC competition (and having other legit scoring options as teammates) Perry is likely going to see most of his time at PG throughout his tenure at UK.
An injury to Williams, Garrison or Carr, though, would be catastrophic, considering how thin they are at the 4 and the 5. Lose either of those, or even Almonor for the year, and UK is hurting. That's why I said the final scholarship would be better used going to another big man.
@UKSportsFan Oh, I agree. But I would rather take talent at any position over a big who is just a body. And that is most likely the type of big that would land at this point. I would not expect Perry to ever be the PG
Guys I sure wish bbn would have more faith cause I just tell you I think we're gonna win a lot of non con games and sec games were gling to have so many weapons i mean just 9 wins dude u should do more looking into these players there goimg to be reallu good
This dude better not end up at BYU is like to have him to run the second unit he’s a true PG other than Kerr we don’t have one Butler played off the ball just as much as he ran the point but if we don’t get him I hope he goes to Creighton not BYU or Providence
I works say pope has interest he didn’t call Trent Perry or Philabon when they became available and they were 4 stars in this class and the was more spots at the time, I think Pope and company has real interest
You need basketball players not shoot only players.
We had shooters last year but they didn't want to defend
We had a staff that didn't teach defense.

@@davidalexander828 That's pretty much what I said. He used to teach almost nothing but defense before the season most of his years here. Then he stopped focusing on defense for some reason.

Right about the time of the release of this video I met Jason Hart at Walmart. I asked about the last scholarship spot and he said they’re close.
Predicting 19 wins
21 wins. Loss in second round of NCAA. Top 25 ranking after upset win over UT. Basically, the same as last year with more hype and no first round picks.
Don't bet on that.
