After watching this I went and brought a small juniper and for the first time I actually made a decent looking little bonsai!! It’s possibly the wrong time in uk so I’m gonna let the tree rest before I repot next spring... thanks for the tips
Delighted to find that you don't use boring, irritating, repetitive 'musak' which distracts and blocks out the talk, like many another site. When it does pop up I immediately hit the mute. Jason, you the man!
Okay first video off the block. I’m old and an experienced gardener, which is an understatement. I’ve never tried wiring before. This is exactly what I wanted. Thank you, skills 👍🏼😉
I've always wanted a bonsai tree and after viewing this I think I can try it. Although what took you 5 minutes to do will probably take me all day..... Your tree is beautiful. Thanks for posting this.
I am a beginner with bonsai. This is my second year of playing around and I just bought a shimpaku juniper I need to style. I just discovered your other more in depth video on wiring and was elated to finally find someone who can make a decent bonsai video! Finally! I'd love to see more from you on the subject. Like, a lot more. I give you many thumbs up.
There’s always been something so special to me about seeing those bonsai trees with beautiful bends and flowing movements. I’ve got some Japanese cedar seeds on the way, I’ve never owned Bonsai before but god I can’t wait to have a couple of my own that I can shape, trim and generally love.
I’m looking forward to applying some of your techniques to my Junipers. I have 3 that I have been putting off because I am not confident on the twisting. Based in Batam, Indonesia
When you lock your wire at the end, what exactly are you doing? I would like to see this detailed in your next video plz. Thanks as always for the wisdom. I'm truly jealous of your eye for styling trees brodie!
Super goed uitgelegd.. Een mooi filmpje. Ik ben een absolute beginner en heb veel uitleg nodig. Dank je voor het delen en de goede uitleg. Groetjes uit Nederland..
I wish you would have spent more time showing how you wire the very young branches and explained how you decide to keep which ones. Working with a tree this size, that doesnt have allot of good branches to work with, and how to ancor the wires for this. But im not complaining! I love watching thanks Jason!
my juniper is a common I believe and I am probably wrong but I think this one is easier to work on. I'm trying to get a shimpaku to work on, I'm loving this and thanks to Jason I'm not pulling my hair out and going in blind.
Clear and helpful. I bought (£5) from garden centre the same pine and almost same shape on Sunday. I practiced wiring it yesterday and a mess! I watched this video this morning (having a cup of coffee in my bed 😉). Found I didn’t start in the right way. I will try again....with the same tree (poor tree😁). May be the finishing touch (cut there and here) in the normal speed will be a massive help???? Thank you Master.
Very nice! Love the way you transformed a very plain tree into something so appealing to the eye. And so quickly. Also, the “manhandling” of the tree is very reassuring. My bonsai instructor emphasizes (overly?) being so, so delicate. They’re not. And I won’t be going forward. Thank you!
When can you begin wiring and setting up for future looks? I have seeds that i will grow myself but have no clue when i can begin touching the plants and moving them safely without halting growth
I have a question: how would we get the bonsai to this point? I recently got a bonsai sapling that does not have any bark yet and only a few leaves. Do I let it grow freely for a while before trying to bend and train it? How long should I wait? Does it need to be in a specific kind of pot?
Yes, the pot is what makes it bonsai or not. I prefer a bigger shaped pot so I can leave it to grow for a couple years without having to repot so soon. Leave it to grow, get some bonsai feed for it, Google how to take care of whatever type of tree it is, and after maybe a year of growth, it might be ready to start shaping. Also, what type of substance its growing it matters too. I use a special blend of 'soil' which looks like lots of little stones and chips which release nutrients and help to keep the bonsai at the right moisture level for my trees.
AMAZING VIDEOS!!! Keep it up dude. Could you do another video of wich style should I choose to my tree? Like: How shold I style my tree? Yose-ue or Moyogi and so on...
Hi, I just got my first cypress obtusa bonzai today, it's about 5 inch tall, is it too early to start wiring it? What fertilizer Should I use and when? Thank you.
Love your videos - some of the most helpful bonsai tutorials online. Can you cover shaping a sequoia? I have a “Kelly’s prostrate” sequoia that I’d love to shape into a weeping style. Keep up the great work!
Love your work. My husband just bought me two bonsai trees. A juniper and a gardenia. I'm terrified of killing them as I've only cared for succulents. You make it look so easy. I find caring for any kind of living plants as a form of art and I really want to shape my trees more but they're already big (3 years old), pre-potted. Do you have a tutorial on an older juniper bonsai?
I really love your video and can't wait to have a go. Could you give me any advice on what is the best tree to work on as this will be my first bonsai? Many thanks Marcus
In one of your other videos you had used raffia to protect the cambium and then used wire. in this one straight wire. Is there a particular time that raffia should be used to when it can be omitted while be bending?
I'm really new to bonsai and wanted to know how people create larger bonsai? Like do would they get a small shrub like in the video, do all the wiring as shown and then let their bonsai just grow in size and repot lots? Or do they start with a larger tree/shrub and trim and repot it all from there?
He says to leave the wire till the branches set, but how do you when they’re set? Is it just based on time or are there visual signs to look for? I’m still a long way off from wiring (my tree doesn’t even have any bark yet) but I’d like to be in the know when the time comes. Thanks.
Anyone else was cringing every time he slapped the tree? 😂 I was like omg no! Stop it! Poor tree!! Lol Seriously, Thank you. Very informative. I just got my juniper bonsai tree and I’m about to wire it. I’m so excited. Thanks for the help!
how about doing different types of trees? deciduous with delicate leaves/branches are harder, can you show some of those? I am new and have a few little trees
Do you have any mature green mound junipers that you have trained in similar fashion? I have yet to see a mature green mound juniper that looks as good as the tiny one you created in this video.
Would be great if you would make a video or small series of how you trimmed, wired & shaped the whole tree to go from stock tree to beautiful young bonsai.
Love your videos! I'm always coming back and getting more each time. Thanks so much for sharing your skills and educating us! Much appreciation. Sending Aloha~ ❤️
Just starting out on this adventure. Thanks for the video, it's very helpful. Does on have to use aluminum wire, or can one use copper or galvanized steel wire?
Hi there! Nice explanation but I'm wondering if u wire it to create movement will that stop the trunk from growing out? I am wanting to grow a big trunk that isn't straight
Hi I have a Juniper bonsai my son gave it to me about a year and a half noe and it was doing great but I got sick and couldn’t water him so much I had to cut off a lot has died it was a little over a month and he was still in Original pot so I built a wood pot a 9 by 13 his roots are great but one sid now is about 15 inch long and the other side is 8 inch all the dead area was in the middle so it looks odd because he’s no longer full and I can’t shape him what can I do I see how yours was cut to a nice shape I want mine to look like that I just need your advice this is actually my first plant 🪴 that has not died on me I apologize I hope I made sense thanx
How long does it normally take for the wire to set? Is there ever a reason you'd want to leave the wire on for years or I assume that would effect the look of the tree as the branches/trunk thickens?
Enjoying Your videos. It is very informative and visualy helpful which us nubes need. How long were You doing this before You stopped being afraid of snapping a branch while putting on wire and bending the branches into place. Andrew
Hi norgrin. Glad you enjoyed the videos. Unfortunately, to learn the feel for the branches, you'll need to go through a lot of branches. Depending the species of a tree, you'll be able to be more aggressive. But the more important part is after doing a lot of them, you'll know where to put your hands to support the usual breaking points. How well you wire the tree will also help with minimizing breaking branches. :)
Hey, thanks for making these videos, probably the clearest and most concise I've found on the subject. I've recently bought a few nursery stock trees to have a go with including a juniper and your videos always bring me back from the brink of thinking it's too hard and the knowledge and techniques are beyond me, they make me want to give things a go. One question, when wiring the small branches on a juniper as per this video, do you wire the young, green parts of the branch or just the older, woody sections?
🌎❤️🕊😊 😊 Hello! This is my first time Watching You On TH-cam Videos. I never try to do Bonsai be for but I will try to do Bonsai. What tools do I need to bury? What type of plant should I try first. I’m looking forward to hear from you. Your Video Is Awesome! Do you have any video for the beginners? God Bless. Stay Safe!
I'm trying to understand the concept of the bonsai process. I'm new at it. Trying to learn. One questions. Are the wires permanent or are they removed at a certain point?
Beginers like me really appreciate the way you wired the trees.
Agreed came here to say the same thing!!
After watching this I went and brought a small juniper and for the first time I actually made a decent looking little bonsai!! It’s possibly the wrong time in uk so I’m gonna let the tree rest before I repot next spring... thanks for the tips
Oh ok 😂
Wonderful, clear applicable info. Thank you.
Delighted to find that you don't use boring, irritating, repetitive 'musak' which distracts and blocks out the talk, like many another site. When it does pop up I immediately hit the mute. Jason, you the man!
I've been practicing bonsai for 3 years and you're giving legitimate advice and techniques. Good job.
Do u know what type of tree did he used? I know he said it but i still couldn’t hear him.
Juniper procumbens nana
ahappyimago thank you !!🙏
Your videos have been the most helpful to me, in terms of basic techniques that others often skim over. You’re a natural teacher.
Thank you.
Okay first video off the block. I’m old and an experienced gardener, which is an understatement. I’ve never tried wiring before. This is exactly what I wanted. Thank you, skills 👍🏼😉
Very nice tutorial video, thanks for sharing!!!

Hey are you still growing your bonsai tree?
Very easy to follow. I am a beginner and enjoy your approach to bonsai.
There’s always been something so special to me about seeing those bonsai trees with beautiful bends and flowing movements.
I’ve got some Japanese cedar seeds on the way, I’ve never owned Bonsai before but god I can’t wait to have a couple of my own that I can shape, trim and generally love.
The best bonsai videos ever! Such clear instruction and great dialogue.
I’m looking forward to applying some of your techniques to my Junipers. I have 3 that I have been putting off because I am not confident on the twisting. Based in Batam, Indonesia
Very helpful. Much more than the others I watched. Easy to understand. And they look like they will be beautiful bonsai already
Watch your video and now i understand how you made from on of the braches a trunk ,
thanks Jason for showing me your tricks .
Thanks Sooo much! This was awesome!! Loved it. Keep it up!! (i'm sure you have been 6 years later haha. Still soo relevent. THANKS!!)
When you lock your wire at the end, what exactly are you doing? I would like to see this detailed in your next video plz. Thanks as always for the wisdom. I'm truly jealous of your eye for styling trees brodie!

You are a great stylist! That wiring job was the best I've seen online too!
I bought 4 small junipers today, chose each for a different style. I'm gonna practice on those poor little guys now 😎
I wish you would have spent more time showing how you wire the very young branches and explained how you decide to keep which ones. Josh Pickles you missed the point where he said he has another video explaining how to do that...
Budokai 100mph yes but the tree in the other video is a different species, and larger.
Really, the smaller ones are easier to work with. Follow his direction in the other videos and you will do fine!!
my juniper is a common I believe and I am probably wrong but I think this one is easier to work on. I'm trying to get a shimpaku to work on, I'm loving this and thanks to Jason I'm not pulling my hair out and going in blind.

Excellently explained. I often wondered how did the tree grow with the swirl effect from the trunk. You have cleared it up. Thank you.

It’s so amazing
You have an amazing
Vision , to see before touching
The tree ,you can see it
Well done
Well explain
Well teaching
Wow, you can turn a shrub into a masterpiece immediately. I can't even figure out what looks good.
I'm new to the art form I'm going to attempt with a Satsuki azalea... I will be referring back to your videos often I'm sure
More like 30 years
This is what i love thank you and now i will try to do the same thing because i love the environment.
07.45am awesome video so simple to follow
Great video. For how long does the wire have to sit? Nobody explains that in there videos.
I've seen other videos and they say the wire stays on for about a year or until the branches "set"
Very helpful as I begin this journey…thank you
TSFS. Really assuring information. Glad one didn’t need to read captions.
this is very useful for me as beginner!!! Thank you
This is so cool. Thanks for the outstanding lesson! Great vision!!
great class. can't wait to get started on our own bonsai
Love this. I'm ready, I think, to tackle a juniper.
Nice! Question, on such a young tree, how much time, approximately before you remove the wire?
You are a true Bonsai artist
Awesome Jason. Love ur videos. Very simple and descriptive. Super enjoyable. 😊🌳
When can you begin wiring and setting up for future looks? I have seeds that i will grow myself but have no clue when i can begin touching the plants and moving them safely without halting growth
Your videos are very informative. Thanks
muy bonito el video gracias por compartir
Great video !
Can you make one in which you show a bit more about How to make at beautiful apex ?
How soon can you start to train or wire the Bonsai for growth and movement? Good video.
Very cool. Thanks for doing these!

I'm on my way to learning how to make a Bonsai tree. And thank you so much Eastern Leaf Guy. And Happy Holidays to All. Good Day
Nice work. Looking forward to seeing how it develops.
Please update this tree, I wathed this video more than ten times already🤣🤣
Wow your good man.. Lol.. I have been looking for a video like this.. Have covered all the bases.. Very good.
Can you please do another tutorial to a bigger tree using raffia? Please provide information on when to use raffia... Thank you!
In one of your other videos you had used raffia to protect the cambium and then used wire. in this one straight wire. Is there a particular time that raffia should be used to when it can be omitted while be bending?

Great video, very informative
Thank you for sharing. Its easy to listen to and follow.
Great video. Thank you for teaching :)
Thank you! Just now wired my cypress and looks like I did it right.
Great difference in look at the end. I'm gonna try doing this since I plan on making my front yard oriental theme.

Jason makes it look so easy. I'm a first timer and am weary in breaking the branch. Sigh ...
i would really like to see them a year later!

How close together are the loops on the trunk and how long before the tree is set and you can take the wire off?
How young/ old is good to start wiring the tree.
I bought the starter juniper and curious when I should start wiring.

Is that movement in the tree permanent? Because I would think as beginner thee trunk when it gets thicker hasn’t enough space to grow.
I just got a bonsai. Is the wire supposed to be straight aluminum? Or is there a silicon on it? Does it matter?
I'm trying to understand the concept of the bonsai process. I'm new at it. Trying to learn. One questions. Are the wires permanent or are they removed at a certain point?
