    After watching this I went and brought a small juniper and for the first time I actually made a decent looking little bonsai!! It’s possibly the wrong time in uk so I’m gonna let the tree rest before I repot next spring... thanks for the tips

    Delighted to find that you don't use boring, irritating, repetitive 'musak' which distracts and blocks out the talk, like many another site. When it does pop up I immediately hit the mute. Jason, you the man!

    I’ve got some Japanese cedar seeds on the way, I’ve never owned Bonsai before but god I can’t wait to have a couple of my own that I can shape, trim and generally love.

    I wish you would have spent more time showing how you wire the very young branches and explained how you decide to keep which ones. Working with a tree this size, that doesnt have allot of good branches to work with, and how to ancor the wires for this. But im not complaining! I love watching thanks Jason!

    I have a question: how would we get the bonsai to this point? I recently got a bonsai sapling that does not have any bark yet and only a few leaves. Do I let it grow freely for a while before trying to bend and train it? How long should I wait? Does it need to be in a specific kind of pot?

    • @Julie-my6ds
      @Julie-my6ds 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes, the pot is what makes it bonsai or not. I prefer a bigger shaped pot so I can leave it to grow for a couple years without having to repot so soon. Leave it to grow, get some bonsai feed for it, Google how to take care of whatever type of tree it is, and after maybe a year of growth, it might be ready to start shaping. Also, what type of substance its growing it matters too. I use a special blend of 'soil' which looks like lots of little stones and chips which release nutrients and help to keep the bonsai at the right moisture level for my trees.

      My understanding is to leave wire on a younger tree about 3 months, up to about a year for more mature plants; the difference being, the younger plant will grow faster, leaving wire on too long may injure the tree as the bark begins to grow over the wire.

    How old should a tree be before you wire it? I understand that it's a pretty vague question depending on species but is there some sort of "rule of thumb" or base of growth, number of branches,size,age. Or is it just pure astetics?
