  • Cystic Fibrosis is a rare and non curable condition that makes the body produce extra salt, in turn creating thick, sticky mucus, that clogs up the respiratory, digestive, and reproductive systems. it also effects the sweat glands, along with numerous other bodily functions, not all physical, sometimes mental. CF can also lead to other conditions such as CF related diabetes (which I have as well).
this is my health update as of April 6, 2015.

Keep in mind Sarah that if you are having diabetic issues we diabetics heal a lot slower and get sick a lot quicker. Try to drink more water. Doctor told me half my weight in oz per day. So if you weigh a 100 lbs. then that person should drink 50 oz of water a day. The water will flush the higher sugar from your system better. I can get a basic cold that the world can get over in 4 days. I can be down for two weeks. If I get a cut, most will have it start to heal over after a few days, hardly noticeable, three weeks out I'm still nursing an open cut. Question that what is different from last year to this is the insulin.

Hey Sarah! IDK if its something with the age or just because of where we live but my health did the same exact thing when I was your age. It's kind of strange how similar. It wasnt until last year when I got dramatically worse that I was able to pull together and get dramatically better. Im still trying to figure out what I did haha especially if it could help you. Your numbers are good tho! but you are right they dont really count if you arent feeling well. Are you able to get any exercise done?? I think that, lung exercises, and changing my diet had a big thing to do with it. especially with the blood sugar issues. Just try and stay positive cyster! you got this! If things get too frustrating I am just a message away:)

Miranda Porche I don't really exercise, but I want to! at least walk or run. over the summer once I have free time I'll probably start. I sing, though, which helps a lot with my breathing! what did you do as far as diet change? I try to eat one good meal a day, and snack on fruit or m&ms (or what ever is in the pantry) throughout the rest of the day.

SarahYDanielle11 once you start it will be hard at first, but if you stick with whatever exercise you choose consistently after the first 2 weeks you will notice a huge difference! Yeah! I love watching your little singing clips on Insta! I changed my diet when my blood sugar started acting up. I didnt want to do insulin so I started monitoring my carbs. eating more 'free foods', and changing my carbs to whole grains, nuts with the protein to balance it out and fruits. once a week or so or if im out of town ill let some things slide but I noticed I just feel better over all doing things like that. I stopped drinking sodas, just water, almond milk, and cranberry juice and smoothies for the most part. I stopped eating at fast food places unless I have no other options and then its mainly only chickfila. I started taking buku more vitamins. I found that the more extra vitamins and nutrition I put in rather than carbs and fat was more beneficial. I know for a fact thats why my fev1 went from 30 to 82. and my weight went from 110 to 135 in less than a year. because its the only thing I did differently! So to sum that up, the less processed the better, the more nutritious the better, and the less simple sugars the better. ( but i still pig out on m&ms and things occasionally haha!) oh and a tip with the blood sugar if its high, or just to keep it level, if you eat more carbs in a meal eat more protien in it as well. the protien helps to break it down and balance it out. and also start eating cinnamon or taking cinnamon pills, idk the science behind it but it works at keeping it from spiking!

Miranda Porche also the older I got the more treatments turned into major coughing fits that turned into i cant do them without throwing up. Smoothies after treatments like that help with settling my stomach and getting something back in there that isnt too heavy and the cold soothes the pain
