Wow I just realized after watching this that Lebron actually does these moves in game. I noticed es using these more and more as he gets older. Respect for listening to Hakeem's advice
I have no idea how Hakeem controls his center of gravity so well to perform these spin moves with virtually no extra momentum. Not even NBA pros in their prime can replicate the smoothness of his spin move.
shows the difference between athleticism and finesse. the nba today is not as skilled as back then, all these dudes rely on explosiveness and athleticism. only dude who didnt was kobe and dirk
you sound like you're 5...most dumbest. either way you compare older generation like john stockton/steve nash/IT to russ, rose and john wall you can definitely see the difference in their game.
If you watch Lebron today (2018), and if you watch Lebron Before (2008), you’ll notice he does a lot more of these moves today. Even players as great as him will eventually decline, and respect to him for learning effective moves for when he loses his step.
George A Lebron’s not doing it right. He’s not selling the “change in direction” aspect of the move. He’s just spinning around toward the basket, which can kinda work just because he’s so big and athletic but it’s nowhere near as effective as it should be.
J23TV OH NOO ITS THE BRONSEXUALS!!!! Face it kiddo, Kobe is a better ball handler than lebron and also Kobe has better footwork. Lebron is better at almost everything else tho
my boxing coaches were like that when i was young. its kinda good how they don't want the words to get in the way. they are teaching a dance and they really just want you to start dancing and developing a feel.
Lebron was confused so was I, who cares hakeem is great but his little footwork subtleties aren't going to impact James game, Im sure Lebron knows how to fuckin play ball this vid is stupid to be honest.
Yeah kinda weird how he got 2 masters degrees from the University of Houston with barely knowing English. You're a stupid fuck that doesn't even know what a basketball looks like.
Hakeem's moves are so amazing b/c he's African, he spent the first decades of his life only playing soccer, that's why his footwork is so damn amazing. He didn't touch a basketball until he was 15.
Looks like the most important part of hakeem moves is amplitude. When you look at all his videos of teaching, he always extends far with all the moves, when he spins, when he steps through, even when he moves the ball he has his arms extended to gain space and be far from the defender. If you look at lebron in the beginning and guys like Amare or Dwight, they are all cramped within their own close personal space if it makes sense, they don't extend far and moves are less effective.
The spin move is hard asf to master ,but once you establish it and put it in your arsenal its very effective on your defender in the post and on the perimeter🏀💪💫
Absolutely amazing. Hakeem Olajuwon was the best center I have ever seen play. Kareem and all those guys were before my time. The Dream had amazing post moves and all that.
+Michael Mayers (beast mode) Shaq couldn't hold Hakeem's jock strap even if he wanted to. Shaq even admitted that Hakeem was the best center of all time. Michael Jordan did too when he picked Hakeem as the first player he would ever take on his all-time fantasy team. Hakeem was the greatest defensive player the game has ever seen since Bill Russell, but unlike Russell, Hakeem could score the ball at will.
Onur Gözcü Bron is my favourite player ever. But c'mon man, the Dream moves at 50 plus y/o are so natural. That finesse being a 7 footer is just crazy. LeBron is a 6'8 260-270 (I don't believe he is a 250 player). LeBron moves are like a robot. Like a player who needs days and days of training to try to reach 50% Hakeem. I mean, you could train all the time in your live, but you'd never have the release of Korver and Curry, the Hakeem's feet and moves or the perfection of Stockton about fundamentals. That's gods gifts. Not trining
I respect ballers trying to learn and expand their craft from dream, but what he use to do is very hard to learn. You just gotta have that instinct and “it” to do what he did. That footwork was just unreal in his heyday
Look at how he's playing with his back to the basket in 2017!!! He's taken Hakeem's training and added MJ's fade away to the play. When he's rested and playing well which is at least 75% of the days he plays he is literally, I mean literally unguardable. Like he shouted out after dropping one on Kris Dunn last night. "It don't matter". Best level Lebron has been playing ever in regular season. I get goosebumps thinking how he will be this year come post season. Strive for greatness!!!
LOL the way some of you make it sound you would think all the teams in the NBA would have figured out how to stop somebody who avg 27 7 and 7 for his Career. He's getting better every year. Adding something new to his game. Thats what the great ones do.
# BASKETBALL IS JAZZ the notes do not change, but the way you play the notes makes it look like you changed it the goal is score the basket, how you score the basket can be art to itself, each move puts the defender at a disadvantage, that move is self = art
Yes. Hence "look at what happened BETWEEN games 3 and 4" - game 3, the Heat blew them out because James surprisingly hopped to the post. After that, Vogel made some simple adjustments and when James tried posting up in game 4, we saw him go 8-18 from the field (and only thanks to his fantastic 4-7 3-point performance), and some 4-11 from the plays they ran in game 3. James posting up is a great idea in some games, but not consistently against a big team like the Pacers/Spurs/Grizzlies.
It's funny that there are no dominant bigs today too!!! So many players who are the same size as Kevin Mchale and Hakeem with twice as much athleticism and yet most of them have a limited post game and prefer to dunk and shoot jumpers.
LeBron at this point was more of a power guy. He was bullying smaller 3's and that's why he's very aggro with his moves. Hakeem was always really good with his footwork because of his training in team handball and soccer. That's why it's important to play multiple sports to develop diverse skills. You don't think about footwork when it comes to hoops but look how much more fluid Hakeem is in his 50's compared to LeBron at his peak
As for the role players most of them are not going to have the effect on the game that the HoF judges usually require for them to be inducted but we have an abundance of young athletic players who can come in and have a great impact for a time. They may not have long careers but there is always an abundance of talent that can run fast and jump high to make a splash in the league.
Bro. Hope you watched when he played his final couple seasons with the Raptors. He couldn't do shit. There's a difference btw doing moves in the gym versus playing against 25 yr old nba players. He' won't survive a quarter if he plays now,
I agree 34 isn't as old as people make it out to be, however i disagree with this whole talent thing. There may be a smaller number of true superstars today but the overall talent of the players across the board has increased. They are more athletic and more capable than the role players of the past. And I don't know why people think Lebron couldn't thrive in a tougher era. Hand checking was still allowed when he was a rookie and he still torched grown men.
Dreams spins and fade aways always looked very unique. It’s probably not easy to emulate ever for LeBron. McHale would be another guy to study. He had a HUGE bag of tricks (post moves). Probably another guy that’d be difficult to emulate. McHale stood 6’11” and had an 8 ft wingspan. With a reach like that maybe some of his moves wouldn’t work for other big men with a lesser reach.
Now, anybody understand why Dream34 was above Ewing, Robinson, Mourning, Mutombo and all the others! Definitely the number one of the centers! Lebron, who plays forward, make the move, spin and this is not good for The Dream. When the Dream make the move, he's doing faster, the ball is more closer to the body when he dribbles and spin on the same time...So elegant to finish !
Did u know that during every one of Bill Russell's first 4 championships there were 8 teams in the NBA. There were 9 teams in the league every one of his next 5 titles. There were 12 teams in the NBA when he won his 10th, and 14 teams when he won his 11th chip. During everyone of his first 9 titles there was a 6 team playoff format, which means 6 out of 8 or 9 teams made the playoffs
When you hear people say “how did he do that” about any player in any sport think of this. I mean the man has probably done this “drill” a million times and all he was worried about was the footwork. Not reinventing the wheel or doing anything crazy! Just turning A fundamental move into second nature!
Lebron should have used these moves more often in the 2013 post season, I only saw him go in the post couple times in game 3 of the conference finals and one post move in game 6 of the final
The big line-ups of Pacers/Spurs could and can easily adjust to James jumping in the post because Miami doesn't have much size for support, look at what happened between games 3 and 4 in the conference finals - some coaching for help defense and shablam.
Those are all good points but I would like to think that as he aged that post game would have developed earlier if it was required to. The hand checking point is true and i concede that completely but the lack of zone defense would be a major upside for him. Assuming we aren't combining rules from different eras he could be dominant but in a more Jordan like blow bye way than a current all around man type. He'd get mad assists in any decade though.
Gregg Popovich tried another approach.. he often times put a bigger body on james (like boris diaw) and told the defender to back off of james to deny his driving angles and dare him to shoot.. miami only won because lebron james significantly improved his mid-range/3-point game...(compared to 2011 finals, where he was defended almost the same way)
the habit is hard to change for everyone, seems to me that they are trying to adjust LB's habit when make the spin. LB used to dribble once in the middle of the spin, dream is trying to show him the benefit of delay the dribble by pulling the ball further after spin thus will be less chance to get stole the ball from the behind when you make the turn.
holly fuck how good was olajuwon those spins he does one after another are smooth as fuck
Best footwork by a big in NBA history. The NBA used to be played inside-out. It was something else to watch.
hakeem is arguably the most skilled big man in history . he does these moves with such ease
Olajuwon is the Center on my personal all time starting 5.
In 1995 Dream completely schooled Shaq and the Rockets swept Orlando 4-0 in the finals.
Wow I just realized after watching this that Lebron actually does these moves in game. I noticed es using these more and more as he gets older. Respect for listening to Hakeem's advice
I love the driving to the paint and spinning left to finish with a right hook move he does in fast breaks.
He always use it these days
