It is commendable that you are reaching out to school children. It is so important to develop these skills early. Also, you have beautifully described the difference between memory and rote memorization. Experience in life is a lot about what is stored in memory and how it is interpreted and adopted for different situations considering different circumstances. This is how a human brain works and technology is trying to replicate that. Finally, you have imparted a very good lesson of scientific learning, wherein one should not assume things and explore deeper to find the true meaning. It stands true for everything.

I find "enquiry based learning" very helpful for my third year engineering class. "Prashnopanishad" , the six quesions invoking deep answers, is afterall the motivation. I try to provide them a piece of new information and motivate them to ask questions. I don't provide any other knowledge/insights/remarks other than what they asked. I consolidate these learnings at the end of the day and then next lecture I tell them the important aspects in the topic which they missed out because the questions did not come to them. Its fun.

One of the brilliant videos, I have ever seen Sir. As usual amazing. Since this is for school kids, I made both my kids sit with me to see this. All three of us, were able to resonate this at our level. I was amazed, when u said, your son read the sentence- the sun rises in the east. This is what is actually happening in my class right now. My kids are slowly able to read, few words, but for the word, they don’t understand, they start asking me for snack break, washroom break, mom, when they would reach home etc. My son said that, what exactly you said about chess was true. He is learning chess. So he was able to resonate to it well. My daughter said, was able to relate to the name of your paper presentation. She couldn’t understand it, but she little bit understood the meaning of the words in that. Recently she and friend went to inter school competition for concept teaching. They selected chemical kinetics as the topic. So she was like kind of able to understand ur paper presentation topic like 1% Wonderful video Sir. Thank you
I highly agree with your video, since my school time i used to spend more time with myself deducing things and not relying on the teacher, the sole reason I loved school was friends and sports. I used to handle most of learning alone, no tuitions till grade 10th but once I entered this JEE coaching, I realised how brutally I have been damaged. I lost all my creative thinking ability. Thanks to shitty coaching institutes. A school going regular student is highly better than a fellow who justs spends his time in coaching
A book called Learning How to Learn is very famous in Japanese students and academic society. I read it when I was small. An important read for Indians too.
Wow, so much valuable info in this video! With longer lectures, it can be hard to retain everything. Anyone know of tools that summarize key points from TH-cam videos?
Thanks Sir! I am currently in class 12th. My question is- IISER/NISER are so less popular in India as compared to IITs, does it reflects that we are only interested in money not research?
Dr Justin Sung and Dr Benjamin Keep, both have done pioneering work in making learning methods accessible to their audience, wherein, both highlight proper usage of Encoding, active learning and retrieval methods, building connection between ideas and concepts, among various other strategies. Learning is not a procedure but a skill, one that is required everywhere regardless of your field or profession. They make some amazing content on TH-cam.
Dr Justin Sung has had the biggest impact on my learning skills till now, even though i am not enrolled in his course, the value he provides even on youtube is really good.
Hey@@idkwhattopost0018 I've also been following Justin Sung's channel since 2021. I am really interested in his course and the advices he puts out, But due to some limitations I can't afford to buy his course at this time, So instead I've been following other channels and trying my best to come up with solutions myself. If its okay with you, can you talk about your experience with the course? Like when did you enrolled for it, some major advices you could give to people who have only seen the channel videos so far etc. It would really do me a favor, thanks a lot!
@@8dbassboost342 maybe you misread my message but as i said i am not enrolled in his course, although i also have been watching his content since early 2021. I do have some idea of what his course has to offer to some extent, some of the things about his course i got to know from his discord server, others are from his report on learning, free webinars, archer newton's yt channel, icanstudy yt channel and some other sources. The course might be really beneficial for those people who need step by step realtime guidance with a coach, otherwise the main principles on which his course is based on is already available on yt and other sources i mentioned above. One advice i would like to give is to really be critical about each aspect about your learning system and really think about in what way it helps in you being able to retain that content for longer, being able to utilise it according to your own needs. Keep making small changes to your system every few days to gain massive improvements over the long term.
Inspite of good understanding STEM especially Maths I am not able shine in Educational System. Learn to Learn and open Degrees in Engineering Degrees need of the hour thanks
Approach Learning as a Fundamental Skill: Learning how to learn is more foundational than problem-solving. Developing this ability is crucial and often missed in school life. Key Concepts: Importance of Memory: Memory aids in learning and understanding. Difficulty with Abstract Ideas: Abstract concepts can be challenging; breaking them down helps. Importance of Practice: Regular practice enhances proficiency. Worked-Out Examples: Studying worked-out examples reinforces learning.
Sir I am class 11th student and currently I am doing coaching in Delhi for JEE. Sir my batch's chemistry teacher does not teach good. In some chapters, he has not even taught till Advanced level. Sir should I attend his classes or study on my own. My parents are saying to attend the class.
Sir i am in class 11th and it's been a one or two months i started my serious preparation i haven't done anything till 10th is there any hope i can get a good rank in this dangerous competitive environment jee advance
till 10 class i relied on self study a lot i use to read different books gather something from everywhere although there is no need to do this much at this stage but i loved to do it and i was always in top 10 but from 11 i came to iit coaching i really forget about it now its just revise class notes and solve problems it has become boring
28:37 I watched that few days ago 😂 didn't expect it to be in your video 😂 (I knew that since beginning of video) Ugh btw interest matters too :/ I was kinda ok person (8.55/10 in my electronics engineering days). People used to see me as fast learner & smart guy. I was decent in programming too. So I somehow got an IT job & due to lockdown, I got way too lazy. I just couldn't learn things as expected & I didn't even get interest (my interest was govt job in PSU as electronics engineer, kind of). My classmates just went with flow, they didn't like electronics, but they do work quite well IT (meanwhile I couldn't even last 2 months 😭 it was all self learning & I couldn't do it. I even got fever for 2-3 days due to that). I quit job & I couldn't clear exams & it's been 2 years 😓 I missed some subject(s) & aptitude is supposed to be better, so missed by a few marks in 1 exam. My friend suggested for higher education (preferably in IITs), but I've no energy to study irrelevant part which I won't use in job ugh :/ I'm exhausted & burned out. Meanwhile my classmate who couldn't do well, now are doing better in life. I'm lagging & regret that why this happened to me ;_;
Ultimately, interest plays a major role. And the ability to not get bored. Back during my UG days at IIT KGP, there were so many guys better than me in terms of raw intelligence. But they just kept getting bored and stopped studying/working.
Long story short nothing beats Practice and rote learning. Because as children never focused behind the truth of a statement. We all know sun rises from the East *because we took fact as it is, instead of burning our brain cells behind validating and arguing whether this statement holds truth or not.* So, for practical subjects just practise as much sums as possible, whereas for theory just learn things as it is.
Sir I am a first-year student at Manipal Institute of Technology, pursuing Computer and Communication Engineering. As I prepare for my end-semester examinations starting on November 29th, I find myself getting stuck with subjects like biology and chemistry. These courses, being mostly factual, present a challenge for someone who values logical understanding over rote memorization. The provided resources, limited to PDFs for each chapter, have left me searching for additional materials, with little success on platforms like TH-cam. Given my preference for logical learning, the current reliance on PDFs is proving to be difficult. I am seeking advice on effective study strategies for biology and chemistry under these circumstances. If you have any recommendations or insights to share, I would greatly appreciate your guidance.
Bro, for chemistry, just mug up all the ppts. Also practice any numerical which comes in the pdfs. I guess you have 5 chapters/topics.So it's possible that there are numericals in each topic. Hence you should first finish all numericals and then go to theory part. In that also, first revise midterm portion properly and then mug up portion after midterm. About biology, I think that latter part after midterm is easy in the sense there is very less to mug up. You try to guess the reasons for whatever process is happening, why its happening, how you applied things. Because as far as I remember, when I had this subject in my first year, I didn't study much for it but still got a good grade. See, you have benefit of ppt only in first year. In second year you won't get ppt. It's easier to score right now for you. So prepare accordingly
When there is content to memorize, divide them into chunks of headings : what, why, how etc. When there is a context to a paragraph, one can write it themselves, you know, you don't have to paste them line by line in exams
I'll tell you something.. don't skip rote memorization. As useless as it may seem, I have seen that when I wanted to commit something to memory, I just couldn't. So I took it as a challenge to deduce as much info possible from things that made no sense. So this exercised my creativity and also improved my ability to grasp difficult and abstract concepts quickly.
Sir, kindly prescribe some good foreign books on mathematics for IIT-JEE, mathematics Olympiad. Please mention algebra, trigonometry, coordinate geometry, calculus, modern algebra. Please mention good theory and problem books.Regads.
Sir my many months of JEE preparation is wasted due to overthinking and health issues so sir please make a video on how to make a strong comeback in JEE prep. Please sir 🙏🙏🙏
**Central Idea:** Learning by Oneself **Why Learn by Oneself?** - No teacher available - Teacher may not be effective - Need to learn at your own pace - Higher education requires self-learning **How to Develop Self-Learning Skills?** - **Importance of Memory** - Counters the idea that imagination is more important than memory in early learning stages - Working memory limitations and the role of long-term memory connecting two brains, one short and one long) - Example: Decoding a sentence for a child vs. an adult. - Memory is foundational in the learning process, particularly in the initial stages of education. - It aids comprehension by automatically loading background information into working memory. - Organizing information in long-term memory enables individuals to comprehend abstract ideas and tackle complex problems effectively. - Memory goes beyond rote memorization; it involves organizing knowledge for easy access and application. - Proficiency in various skills, including problem-solving, is facilitated by a well-organized memory. - **Dealing with Abstract Ideas** - Difficulty understanding abstract concepts - Connecting abstract ideas to concrete examples (transfer of knowledge) (Icon: Two arrows connecting a squiggly line and a picture) - Example: Strength in unity vs. divide and conquer, applied to a medical problem (Icon: Teamwork and Competition applied to a Medical Symbol) - Importance of actively making connections, not just memorizing - **The Value of Practice** - Research supports the importance of practice - Opposes "discovery-based learning" for improved performance - Benefits of practice: - Develops long-term memory and knowledge structures. - Improves fluency and automaticity - Enables transfer of knowledge to new situations. - Example: Chess players memorizing game positions strategically (Icon: Chessboard) - Spacing out practice sessions for better retention. - **Background Information is Key** - Example: Misinterpreting the sentence "I am 32 and my girlfriend is 13" due to lack of context - Importance of background knowledge to understand complex concepts **Additional Notes:** - You can include visuals like icons or images to represent each sub-branch. - Colors can be used to differentiate between different sections of the mind map. - The level of detail in the mind map can be adjusted based on the audience and purpose.
Sir please make a video on my situation. I want to do a phd in astrophysics but my parents are kind of skeptical. Please do talk about research opportunities in India at the moment and the actual scenario of how researchers work and who they work for. Im in 10th only so I have absolutely no idea on how to proceed
Respected sir , I want to know which one is better for my kid , homeschooling or normal local school , and for ur notice I am being his mother I am aware of all the necessary things required during learning , I had a 6 months experience of reading test and analysts teacher where I have encountered learning abilities around 300 - 400 students individually ! I have good efficiency in teaching anything from nursery to 12 th class all subjects ! Should I opt for homeschooling????
hello sir , i am a grade 10 student , about to have my board exams next year that is in the month of feb or march , i recently wrote my grade 10 mid terms and was not so happy infact what made me so unhappy was the fact that i have underperformed when compared to my previous tests. i have decided to take up JEE in my 11th and 12th , but after seeing my 10th grade mid term scores my parents believe i am not capable enough to write JEE but i believe if i work hard i can , that's why i started working hard again , and during this time period i found ur videos very educational and motivational , but i have come across a problem , it is extremely hard for me to remember and understand certain physics concepts , for example some chapters from optics , i believe this is due to the bad coaching at school but i understand blaming wont help. And secondly i have exam fear , i perform really well in the class tests etc , where i am not under pressure but in the exam hall itself i find myself to be under way more pressure than i am normally in , this literally makes my mind go blank , and i am starting to worry that this issue will be a huge problem in my boards. i have not been able to overcome this issue for long time. Do u have any suggestions sir ? maybe taking mock tests or anything like that?. , I would greatly appreciate your guidance.
I think this is a common issue as I myself went through this I’m also someone who has exam fear. I would advice you to relax and try your best I used to score very bad in school exams but with self belief and patience I scored 91% in class 10. But remember class 11 is very different it requires thrice the hard work than 10th and one more thing that don’t ever think of perfection in post class 10 because doing only relevant things will get you ahead. Thank you
Sir, exactly what problems should I be solving as a tenth grader with a few months to spare before 11th begins(I will be preparing for JEE), to improve my problem solving skills, i mean is there any specific book or other source. I have no problems with my regular school tests and sit comfortably above 95 percent is periodic tests and preboard sets.
There are different books for different subjects for jee prep Cengage is one of the best for maths For physics physics galaxy is best For chemistry ( well Idk)
@@thehalfbloodprince-nm8ukim not talking about these type of problems, im talking about the type of problems that a 12th grader could solve, and an eight grader too could solve, without knowing any topics ahead of his grade, kind of like aptitude problems that use basic geometry, basic algebra and stuff
first do modules of ur coaching then blackbook( for maths) or just listen to ur teacher.Dont be oversmart, jee teachers are much more experienced, just follow them blindly
Sir mujhe advanced ke questions mei sochna jyada nahi ata toh kya kare improve karne ke liye. Sir please make a video on it to improve my critical thinking.🙏🙏🙏
Sir are you Bengali? The word Bhat is Bengali and it's our national food in our country. Respect for you sir from Bangladesh. I'm also preparing for IIT jee exam from my country
I was able to solve that laser question instantaneously(I am 19 btw), but I dont want to emphasize that I am genius or anything, since I have lost socially by not being aware about JEE and not using coachings and all just to be in State Government Engineering College after 1 year drop which also because of the pressure and surprising syllabus of JEE spoilt my mental health too. I am trying to understand my mistakrs gtatefully now, Vadodara is a very good city too. College is very good also but its not the IIT. I am sorry I always dwell into commenting about this.
Take BTech (more preferred). If you want to be eligible for competitive job exams, do diploma first & then degree in core branches (Mech, Civil, EE) For private jobs & higher pay, do CSE degree. Just see what part of science you like: Mechanics: Take Mechanical/Civil Circuits: Take Electrical Math and computing: Computer science

So she was like kind of able to understand ur paper presentation topic like 1%
Wonderful video Sir. Thank you
Thank you. I am really glad that you were all able to relate to the things I said.
Thank you sir. It was a really helpful session. I try to implement going forward. Kindly keep guiding us.
Same bro😢
Yes sir i feel the same...in my coaching..they don't teach me physics they only teach this is the question.you have to do it any how
A book called Learning How to Learn is very famous in Japanese students and academic society. I read it when I was small. An important read for Indians too.
Wow, so much valuable info in this video! With longer lectures, it can be hard to retain everything. Anyone know of tools that summarize key points from TH-cam videos?
Thank you sir love from IIT Madras
Thanks Sir! I am currently in class 12th. My question is- IISER/NISER are so less popular in India as compared to IITs, does it reflects that we are only interested in money not research?
Second that
Yes
Would it be possible for you to create a video on "Importance of schooling with mother tongue as medium of education"?
To the point and easy to understand.❤
100% agreed with your thoughts sir
Dr Justin Sung and Dr Benjamin Keep, both have done pioneering work in making learning methods accessible to their audience, wherein, both highlight proper usage of Encoding, active learning and retrieval methods, building connection between ideas and concepts, among various other strategies. Learning is not a procedure but a skill, one that is required everywhere regardless of your field or profession. They make some amazing content on TH-cam.
Thank you. I knew about Dr Benjamin Keep. I didn't know about Dr Justin Sung.
Dr Justin Sung has had the biggest impact on my learning skills till now, even though i am not enrolled in his course, the value he provides even on youtube is really good.
fellow Justin sung and benjamin keep watcher :D
Hey@@idkwhattopost0018
I've also been following Justin Sung's channel since 2021.
Well sir I've been waiting for this kind of video and you made it.
Sir, please make this type video regularly 🙏
30:44 This moment reminds me of a meme. The meme goes like this, "Ek dum se waqt badaldiye jazbat badal di 😂, zindagi badaldi"
Could you please make a video on deep learning!!!!?!
Inspite of good understanding STEM especially Maths I am not able shine in Educational System. Learn to Learn and open Degrees in Engineering Degrees need of the hour thanks
Good evening professor.
Approach Learning as a Fundamental Skill:
Learning how to learn is more foundational than problem-solving.
Developing this ability is crucial and often missed in school life.
Key Concepts:
Importance of Memory: Memory aids in learning and understanding.
Difficulty with Abstract Ideas: Abstract concepts can be challenging; breaking them down helps.
Importance of Practice: Regular practice enhances proficiency.
Worked-Out Examples: Studying worked-out examples reinforces learning.
respected sir can you give some advice for becoming a better learner for higher education in physics
bhai 30 min ki video tune 3min me dekh li?
Thank you sir🙏❤
Ur doing great work sir
Sir I am class 11th student and currently I am doing coaching in Delhi for JEE.
Sir my batch's chemistry teacher does not teach good. In some chapters, he has not even taught till Advanced level.
Sir should I attend his classes or study on my own. My parents are saying to attend the class.
Excellent more of such contents❤
Sir i am in class 11th and
it's been a one or two months i started my serious preparation i haven't done anything till 10th is there any hope i can get a good rank in this dangerous competitive environment jee advance
till 10 class i relied on self study a lot i use to read different books gather something from everywhere although there is no need to do this much at this stage but i loved to do it and i was always in top 10 but from 11 i came to iit coaching i really forget about it now its just revise class notes and solve problems it has become boring
28:37 I watched that few days ago 😂 didn't expect it to be in your video 😂 (I knew that since beginning of video)
Ugh btw interest matters too :/
I was kinda ok person (8.55/10 in my electronics engineering days). People used to see me as fast learner & smart guy. I was decent in programming too. So I somehow got an IT job & due to lockdown, I got way too lazy. I just couldn't learn things as expected & I didn't even get interest (my interest was govt job in PSU as electronics engineer, kind of). My classmates just went with flow, they didn't like electronics, but they do work quite well IT (meanwhile I couldn't even last 2 months 😭 it was all self learning & I couldn't do it. I even got fever for 2-3 days due to that). I quit job & I couldn't clear exams & it's been 2 years 😓 I missed some subject(s) & aptitude is supposed to be better, so missed by a few marks in 1 exam. My friend suggested for higher education (preferably in IITs), but I've no energy to study irrelevant part which I won't use in job ugh :/ I'm exhausted & burned out. Meanwhile my classmate who couldn't do well, now are doing better in life. I'm lagging & regret that why this happened to me ;_;
Ultimately, interest plays a major role.
We all know sun rises from the East *because we took fact as it is, instead of burning our brain cells behind validating and arguing whether this statement holds truth or not.*
So, for practical subjects just practise as much sums as possible, whereas for theory just learn things as it is.
10:23 I wish I could imagine that. But its late 😢😢
Thank you, Sir
Thank you very much sir
Sir, what books should I try to instill a strong foundation for top universities in the world like IITs, MIT, Harvard and other universities??

**Central Idea:** Learning by Oneself
**Why Learn by Oneself?**
- No teacher available
- Teacher may not be effective
- Need to learn at your own pace
- Higher education requires self-learning
**How to Develop Self-Learning Skills?**
- **Importance of Memory**
- Counters the idea that imagination is more important than memory in early learning stages
- Working memory limitations and the role of long-term memory connecting two brains, one short and one long)
- Example: Decoding a sentence for a child vs.
- **Dealing with Abstract Ideas**
- Difficulty understanding abstract concepts
- Connecting abstract ideas to concrete examples (transfer of knowledge) (Icon: Two arrows connecting a squiggly line and a picture)
- Example: Strength in unity vs. divide and conquer, applied to a medical problem (Icon: Teamwork and Competition applied to a Medical Symbol)
- Importance of actively making connections, not just memorizing
- **The Value of Practice**
- Research supports the importance of practice
- Opposes "discovery-based learning" for improved performance
- Benefits of practice:
- Develops long-term memory and knowledge structures.
- Improves fluency and automaticity
- Enables transfer of knowledge to new situations.
- Example: Chess players memorizing game positions strategically (Icon: Chessboard)
- Spacing out practice sessions for better retention.
- **Background Information is Key**
- Example: Misinterpreting the sentence "I am 32 and my girlfriend is 13" due to lack of context
- Importance of background knowledge to understand complex concepts
**Additional Notes:**
- You can include visuals like icons or images to represent each sub-branch.
I have already made a number of videos about PhD. If you cannot find them. Let me know.
@@Prof_JC okay sir got it!
You must sit for mock tests. I myself used to do them for my 10th boards.
Same question from my side🙋
There are different books for different subjects for jee prep
Cengage is one of the best for maths
For physics physics galaxy is best
For chemistry ( well Idk)
@@thehalfbloodprince-nm8ukim not talking about these type of problems, im talking about the type of problems that a 12th grader could solve, and an eight grader too could solve, without knowing any topics ahead of his grade, kind of like aptitude problems that use basic geometry, basic algebra and stuff
first do modules of ur coaching then
blackbook( for maths)
or just listen to ur teacher.Dont be oversmart, jee teachers are much more experienced, just follow them blindly
Awesome explanation ❤
Sir mujhe advanced ke questions mei sochna jyada nahi ata toh kya kare improve karne ke liye. Sir please make a video on it to improve my critical thinking.🙏🙏🙏
Sir I request you to use simple language so that a ordinary student can understand your lecture well. Thanks.
Sir are you Bengali? The word Bhat is Bengali and it's our national food in our country. Respect for you sir from Bangladesh. I'm also preparing for IIT jee exam from my country
My father is Bengali. My mother is from the state of Assam in North-East India. Thanks for stopping by my video. All the best for JEE.
This man is pitting facts 😮, that we don't pay enough attention to.
Love you sir 😘
Sir i have a question after all these acquisition of knowledge in school why we are still stressed about what to do in life and what we will become
What an insightful video!
(Loved the reddit part)
@@AkashPrasannaVenkatesh for real, that was completely unexpected!
Sir will you please make video bsc vs BTech and how to choose between them.
Take BTech (more preferred).
If you want to be eligible for competitive job exams, do diploma first & then degree in core branches (Mech, Civil, EE)
For private jobs & higher pay, do CSE degree.
Just see what part of science you like:
Mechanics: Take Mechanical/Civil
Circuits: Take Electrical
Math and computing: Computer science
Thanx sir it's amazing video ❤
There is a term called "Enthusiasts" different from "Professionals". How the self learners deal with it?
Could you please chalk out a comprehensive & wholesome Indisciplinary study plan for those who are studying to make their edifices strong focusing equally on a variety of Humanities , commerce as well as Science subjects..
That is what our school curricula are for. Or, did you perhaps have something more advanced or completely different in mind?
@@Prof_JC Dear sir, the T structure ie having a stronghold over one specialized subject & after reaching a decent optimized point , focusing on other disciplines ( not ignoring the NCERT s or ISC textbooks but rather building upon them & complementing them with the Graduation & Post Graduation level resources .... It's not that difficult as we assume, not much time consuming because the resources are targeted towards the students & not experts... The online free material & IGNOU guides can also help the poor students.... If you have better suggestions or Study plan to have a good foundational approach to each subject & connecting them, suitable for Indisciplinary Research & studies ... Please do share

Sir please do suggest me 1 thing which will help me to overcome from mone made situation -
The situation is --
I am going to enter in class 12 (maths).
I have no confidence in PCM of class 11 and I am confused that how I prepare it -by-1 shot lecture or by studying hard through ncert textbook and making proper notes and doing only ncert textbook question to build up my concept IN PCM slowly -slowly.
I am confused sir please help me to overcome from this situation.
Sir.. I'm in 10th and I am CRITICALLY confused about whether i should pick Maths or Bio for +2 and for pursuing my career.. basicallly IIT OR NEET.. im too clueless about what i should do.. i like both of them as an interest and am scoring good in both too.. please suggest what should be a good approach according to you..
Don't choose a subject based on your board marks. That is my advice for you.
Choose based on your interest
I am 32 but my GF is 13 , LOL that was funny and an eye OPENER .
