Crush the thalmor, instigate and support bosmer rebellions in valenwood, attack the argonians to force them back into the swamps, thereby gaining the loyalty of the dark elves, and then go on to reforge Tiber septims empire from the ashes of the Mede dynasty and the dominion

What if a Stormcloak cavalry arrived? What if he somehow managed to get rid of his gag and used his voice? What if another monster arrived (shouldn't be to uncommon in a world like Skyrim's)? • @TheAwesomeDarkNinja
    @TheAwesomeDarkNinja 3 ปีที่แล้ว +281

The biggest reason I choose Stormcloak is simply because the Empire's "scorched earth" strategy. They don't care about ruining Skyrim or killing it's people. Your character at the beginning could just be passing through but you get roped in because "forget the list, he goes to the block".

Doesn't matter who you join, it's bad news for the Thalmor. A Imperial victory would mean the Imperial Legion would get their hands on veteran troops. A Stormcloak victory would mean that a independent state could seek alliances with other provinces, like Black Marsh (who are a independent state as of the events of Skyrim) and Hammerfell (who stopped the Thalmor march and forced to give them back their land by treaty).

Meanwhile the Stormcloaks are united under Ulfric, so wouldn't try and fight each other for power, and the Thalmor will have some problems making shady deals with political leaders sence they all HATE Elves.
Not to mention, while yes Ulfric was mulipulated to cause the civil war, he still seeks the end of the Thalmor, and if he has the Dragonborn by his side, then such a power could easily wipe out the Thalmor as Talos did so long ago

You forgot to mention *why* the Thalmor wants to ban Talos worship. Gods are real in the Elder scrolls series, and holds real power. Without worshippers, their power is weakened. The endgoal of the Aldmeri dominion is to erase humankind from existence using the time magic from the Elder Scrolls, and to do this they must weaken Talos first, because he is the protector of humankind. And the Aldmeri dominion wishes to destroy humankind to destroy Talos. Because the idea of a human ascending to godhood is an affront to the high elves who sees themselves as descendants of the gods.

    4. Why can the Thalmor kill, torture and arrest any Nord they want?
Is the Empire the henchman of the High Elves?
    5. Making Maven the Jarl shows how corrupted the Empire is.
    6. Giving up Markath is the pussiest thing ever done. Hail Ulfric who freed Markath from madanach!

Well, the imperials are forced into a treaty, a treaty that will be ended soon as a new war with the dominion is on the horizon. A war everyone needs to assist in. Starting an internal rebellion might be the worst thing you can do if you don't like the Altmeri Dominion.
If independent skyrim joins the fight with the dominion, you just wasted a ton of men of Skyrim for nothing. Nothing but a few extra years of free talos worship and no Altmeri forces in the nation before the war starts.
If this war is lost without skyrim involvement, wich it is more likely to be lost, skyrim is next to go, with fewer allies now.
If the war is won, I see no reason in the rebellion, as all will become to normal again. The only real enimy of the empire would be Argonia, and Akavir, a continent with forces so powerfull, a united Tamriel is needed to fend them of, maby Argonia too perhaps, you never know with those Hists. But Argonia would be the only nation that probiably wouldn't be willing to join the empire again, maby summerset too, but that depends on how much the war was won.
If Ulfric really wanted to show those high elves what's up, don't rise up the the puppet, but to the pupper Master. Round up some men, get on a boat, go to Summerset, and slash some Elf steaks. Aspecialy when the puppet is willing to, and able to, and likely to, rise up to the puppetmaster.

I don't think the empire can ever "win", because the roots of Skyrim's anger are deeper than just one rebellion. Being forced into a war to preserve some distant, dying empire's geopolitical position only to be rewarded with crippling debt, kneecapped independence and the very same enemies being *allowed* in to murder and torture all those who worship a time-honored god will *never, ever* end in anything else but an _unending season_ of rebellion, as they say. The only way to make the nords stop fighting for that is to break their spirit and their identity altogether. So the empire has 2 choices: lose skyrim forever, even draining massive resources to keep it pacified indefinitely, or leave quickly, which would be a bad thing for the Thalmor according to they themselves.

I usually lean Stormcloak. The Stormcloaks and the Empire both recognize the Thalmor as the true enemy, and I believe that should Skyrim win its independence then they would fight alongside the Empire against the Aldmeri Dominion. The civil war isn't out of hate for the Empire, but just freeing themselves of their rule. And I see the suppressing of a religion, especially one as hard-coded and real as Talos, a just cause for war. A unified Skyrim, a unified Hammerfell, and the Empire against the Aldmeri Dominion is how I see the conflict progressing after the civil war. You have to support Ulfric if you are an anti-imperialist. The Empire chooses the king of Skyrim instead of the Jarls of Skyrim doing it themselves, that is why there is so much danger and deprivation in Skyrim. And half of the Jarls are corrupt and do not fight bandits or care for their people, they seize their property and collect payments from them to pay off massive and unfair debts to the Empire. They repress the religion of their people and allow the Imperials to set about their own laws of capital punishment, conscription and special treatment in Skyrim. There is talk of the Nords being racist against Elves (even though Windhelm is the only city in Skyrim that offers a refuge for Dark Elves and they have equal rights in the city.) But what about the racial supremacy of the Thalmor over the Nords? That is the real racism in the scheme, the Thalmor stir up reactionary hatred of other races in Skyrim by settling massive groups of people there who conflict with the Nords. People say Ulfric only lusts after power when his only goal was to become a Greybeard before the people called upon him to be their Jarl. He despises war, having been a veteran in the Imperial Legions, he does not wish for any more Nords to die in the wars of expansion and conquest of the Empire. He wants to care for the orphans and widows left behind by those imperialist wars. Ulfric wants to put popularly supported Jarls back in the Marches who will select a High King the people by default, favor, not a king chosen FOR them by the Thalmor. This and more are why the Stormcloaks must be supported

    • @TheLoneStreamer
      @TheLoneStreamer 5 ปีที่แล้ว +6

Evan Nesbitt I agree with some of your points be disagree with many. I think my biggest disagreement is with what you think of Ulfric, I strongly believe he wanted the power. This all started because he wanted to be the high king, and we know how that ended up. The high king (I cant remember his name) was the heir to the throne because he was the son of the previous high king, however, a moot was still put in process to make sure all the jarls agreed that he should be the high king, and they did, they all agreed, including Ulfric at the time. Ulfric knew that the only way for him to be in power is to challenge the high king on a duel, which he had to accept (being a nord that wants to get to sovrngarde), and Ulfric knew he wasn’t a warrior, he knew he wouldn’t stand a chance against the fearsome warrior that Ulfric is. So Ulfric goes into the duel, USES THE THU’UM (WHICH THE GRAYBEARDS ARE ABSOLUTELY AGAINST), and kills the high king, which in normal conditions yes that would be the end of that and Ulfric becomes the high king. So why did he run away? Because he knew what he did was not right, he knew that everyone would accuse him of murder instead of crowning him. Again, if he disagreed with simply him (the high king that I can’t remember the name of), he would have said so during the moot, but because HE wanted to be the high king and knew he wasn’t going to get elected. For me, what really crosses the line is the fact the the high king respected Ulfric, he admired him, he knew Ulfric was a war hero, and even the solitude court wizard said that if Ulfric simply told him start a revolt against the empire, he would have done it.

I like these more serious topics Irish! However, I have to respectfully disagree. Although I agree with Ulfric's ideals on Talos and the Thalmor, I believe the Empire should win the war. General Tullius hints that he knows that the Thalmor are planning another war, and thus he and the Empire may already be preparing. And when you kill General Tullius if you join the Stormcloaks, he states this is what they (the Thalmor) want. They want the Empire to focus it's resources and manpower on the civil war, making it easier for them to effectively take over. The civil war also benefits the Aldemari Dominion by having two of it's enemies kill eachother off. This point is further proven when you read the Thalmor's dossier on Ulfric, referring to him as an asset, who is unintentionally aiding them. This is also the reason why General Tullius could only enlist men within Skyrim, as if he pulled troops from Cyrodiil, it would weaken the Empires defences. A popular argument for why the Stormcloaks could beat the Thalmor is that Hammerfell did. But Hammerfell only won because of the had the advantage of fighting on their own land, as well as lack of the Thalmor's reinforcements. And they haven't brought the fight to the Thalmor since. They've only stayed independent with no further conflict. This is probably due to the Redguards knowing that they, as a single nation, cannot defeat the Aldemari Dominion. The same could be said for Skyrim. The final point I want for make is who would have a greater chance of defeating the Thalmor in the next Great War? A single militia in one nation, or a a highly organized military with multiple nations supporting it.

Should the Thalmor start a new war, old enemies in Cyrodil and Skyrim can easily become new allies. Also, the thalmor and empire reject Talos as divine, although during the Oblivion crisis it was proven otherwise when Martin used the blood of Tiber Septim (Talos) as the blood of a divine needed to open the portal to Mancar Cameron's paradise. So I bring vengeance on all those who rejected Talos, as his Champion!

The reason I choose the stormcloaks isn't because I like ulfric, but because the empire can never beat the thalmor. Before the great war the empire was already in shambles due to the poor leadership. Oh and fun fact the empire actually won the great war, but the emporer surrendered because lets face it he is a massive pussy. The empire isn't salvaging it's strength to fight the thalmor, they are clearly thalmor puppets. I mean come on, they let thalmor agents roudmnd up and arrest, and execute their own citizens. The empire has already given up, but just because the thalmor beat the empire doesn't mean that they can beat anyone, hammerfel was able to hold its own against the thalmor, so it isn't outlandish to think that Skyrim can't, especially when Skyrim has the dawngaurd and dragons. And while the dragons aren't exactly friendly to the nerds, they will be equally as hostile to the thalmor. My final argument is this, which would you rather live in, an empire that allows it citizens to be abducted and tortured by a foreign power and does nothing, or would you rather live under ulfric who will at least protect his citizens.

I join the Stormcloaks for one major reason - they can offer me something that the Empire, with all its power and wealth, cannot offer: knowledge that the Thalmor can't just knock on my family's door and arrest them while I am out adventuring. Seriously, I felt a great deal of relief when I returned to Skyrim after the end of my Beyond Skyrim Bruma campaign because I could breathe the free air again (play Bruma to know what I mean). That poor guard captain :(
This is by no means a perfect choice as an independent Skyrim would need to basically build a new government from the ground up and could be vulnerable in such a period. We can't keep using Imperial Septims so we will need a new minted currency - the list goes on. And of course, a Rebel Dragonborn is probably not welcome in Imperial Territory, so no going to the Imperial City and staying at the Tiber Septim Hotel (you will be able to in Beyond Skyrim but it makes no sense).
But to my mind, everything that one could hold against Ulfric and his Stormcloaks, such as their bigotry, are not necessarily reasons to support the Empire. Why? Because the Empire was never interested in dealing with such problems to begin with. See aftermath of the Great Collapse in Winterhold 80 years ago - that was when the Empire was in control. Where were they then? Did Imperial Legionnaires step in to stop the Dunmer from being driven from their homes by angry Nords? No. Brunwulf Free-Winter as Jarl of Windhelm is a coincidence, sheer happenstance - it is not Imperial policy.
And the fact that the Empire stops the Thalmor from invading Skyrim is not really all that much a point in their favor. They will still stop the Thalmor from crossing an army into Skyrim even if Skyrim becomes independent. That's why Ulfric is concerned with the Thalmor turning an eye to Skyrim's shores - he foresees an invasion by sea and not land.
In the end, a Dragonborn committed to preparing Skyrim for the next Great War would have his or her work cut-out either way. But at least with the Stormcloaks ascendant we don't have to worry about the Thalmor nosing around.
You also get a better political standing working with Ulfric. As a Stormcloak I basically end up the Champion of a High King, while as an Imperial I am just another soldier who never even meets his Emperor (unless I kill him). Ulfric practically regards you as kin, no matter your race. True, he does this because you are Dragonborn and he doesn't want you going Lü Bu on him, but I can dig it.
Lastly, this question of whether to stay in the Empire or leave was already answered 25 years earlier by the Redguards. Last I checked, the resistance to the Thalmor is alive and well in Hammerfall. And the Dunmer of Morrowind couldn't care less about the Empire. Far from being indispensable, the Empire has shown itself apathetic at best to the needs of its allies and people. In Morrowind the Imperial allies of House Hlaalu were downgraded, and I am sure the Forebears of Hammerfall are having buyer's remorse. An Empire that cannot protect its political allies can best be described as such: Doomed.

@@maiqtheliar446 Thank you, it's certainly some testament to Skyrim's longevity that we still discuss this topic across the internet to this day.
However, Bethesda crafted a flawed story when they established the current status quo in the Elder Scrolls universe as of Skyrim. No nation, save one utterly defeated and occupied, would have transferred actual police powers to a foreign state as the Empire did with the Concordant. And a "Peace" lasting 25 years with all this is mind boggling and not based on historical happenings (it was 23 years between the 1st & 2nd Punic Wars under more favorable terms for Carthage).
I hate that, despite the myriad flaws built into the Empire, Bethesda clearly played favorites with it as a faction. The best leaders Jarl Balgruuf supports the Empire, and seeing them removed by force never sat well with me. They also have the only field commander with any substance, a High Elf who hates the Thalmor and tells you about their crimes.
I don't know if I'll side with the Stormcloaks in a later playthrough, as I find that lore-wise it limits the amount of things I should be able to do in later mods (visit Cyrodil etc.). But I would only side with the Empire for purely selfish reasons, such as getting to live in a fixed-up Solitude. But my prior reasons for the Stormcloaks are still there...

    1. They have more of a plan to take Skyrim and rule it independently
    2. Ulfric gives a better plan of what needs to be done and knows what needs to be done

As is often the case in real wars, there truly is no winning. If you side with the Empire, you’re bending your knee to the Thalmor and letting elves rule over the home of the Nords, and letting the corrupt Maven Black Briar become Jarl of Riften. If you side with the Stormcloaks, you betray Jarl Balgruuf, someone who you’ve seen is a good and honorable man, and run his city Whiterun, a warm and welcoming community into the ground. You either get to be a Thalmor puppet killing natives because they dare believe a human could be a divine, or you get to join highly xenophobic nationalist group who only wants to free Skyrim instead of freeing the entire Empire. Either side should have had the ability to rise in the ranks and take over as the leader of the faction, challenge the leader of the opposing faction, and by winning unite the two factions, then face off against the actual threat and cause of the civil war: The Thalmor. The reason that you aren't given a fair trial at the beginning of the game is first of that legate's choice. She chose that you had to be executed. Second, general Tullius wanted it done as soon as possible. You can see Tullius talking to Elenwen and she wants Ulfric to be taken to the Imperial city so that one of her spies can free Ulfric on the way to Cyrodiil and then the war will be right where it started. Also, rhe Thalmor supply the Stormcloaks with weapons.

    3. Some are racist
    4. Led by someone that fought for the other side in the past (George Washington)
    5. The basic uniform colors for the British (Imperials) and America (Nords) are the same as was in the American Revolution with their corresponding groups.
    6. On land that was originally someone else's (Dwarves and Native Americans)

And also, Skyrim is in a very strategic position when it comes to defence. The border of Skyrim and Cyrrodill is very mountainous, so any invasion by the Imperials/Thalmor via the border would be ambushed and defeated swiftly (the same can be said if the Imperials invade via High Rock, which alone is unlikely), and on Skyrim's right side is an already independent province (Morrowind), so the safest way the Imperials or Thalmor could invade is via Skyrim's northern shore, which would take ages to ship troops there and longer still for reinforcements.

Empire is pathetic but is nevertheless holding off the stormcloaks with a SINGLE legion, and actually captured Ulfric (after he shamelessly surrendered) at the start of the game. Talk about pathetic
The only hope for men is an alliance of the human races, then. Almost like thats exactly what the Empire is. • @Galimeer5
    @Galimeer5 6 ปีที่แล้ว +37

You've got good content and present it in a mostly professional way, but, as an Imperial Loyalist, I have a few points to share:
    1) Skyrim was of course affected by the Concordat because Skyrim was/is a territory of the Empire.
    2) The Empire didn't actually enforce the Concordat _until_ Ulfric started making a fuss over it. Alvor, the blacksmith in Riverwood, has this to say: "[Skyrim] didn't pay much attention to [the Concordat] when I was a boy - everyone still had their little shrine to Talos. But then Ulfric and his 'Sons of Skyrim' started agitating about it, and sure enough the Emperor had to crack down."
    3) Regarding the player's intended execution at Helgen, that wasn't the Empire, it was _one_ captain who wanted to look good in front of her general. As for the Markarth Incident, which is a better move; keep a promise that will potentially start another Great War, or back out of said promise to not start another Great War? It's a tough call, but I think not starting another Great War is a better call.
Side Note: During the Markarth Incident, Ulfric and Jarl Hrolfdir committed legitimate war crimes, genocide, and other atrocities that turned the surviving Reachmen into the Forsworn.
    4) Both sides (the Empire and the Aldmeri Dominion) are secretly rebuilding their strength for the next Great War. That's the thing the Stormcloaks fail to realize; the Concordat is _temporary,_ and by having a tantrum, the Empire is weakened and will be less able to fight the Dominion.
    5) Ulfric murdered the previous High King. Torygg respected Ulfric and knew that he was advocating for Skyrim's independence from the Empire. When Ulfric showed up at the Blue Palace in Solitude, everyone expected it was to propose Skyrim's independence to Torygg and people who knew the High King suspected he would even agree with Ulfric. But instead of propositioning, Ulfric challenged Torygg. Torygg knew Ulfric would kill him; Ulfric was trained by the Greybeards, a warrior (who had committed war crimes and genocide), and due to the nature of the challenge, if Torygg refused, he'd be forsaking his honor, his throne, and Sovngarde. Think about that: your choices are death or shame of the highest degree.
    6) I highly doubt that an independent Skyrim can destroy the Aldmeri Dominion. The united Empire couldn't do it, Hammerfell can only defend themselves from the Thalmor, and if Skyrim cut ties with the Empire, the Dominion would raze the kingdom. You see, the Thalmor's goal is to effectively kill Talos by eradicating his religion. In the Elder Scrolls universe, a god's power comes from how much they're worshipped. If no one worships them, they're forgotten and effectively die. And which kingdom holds Talos in the highest regard? Skyrim. If Skyrim forsakes the protection being a part of the Empire offers, the Dominion will throw everything they have at the nords, and I doubt Skyrim would survive.
    7) This one is a bit fourth-wall breaking, but the player is absolutely set up to support the Stormcloaks. The first NPC you talk to is a Stormcloak, right away you're going to be executed by order of an imperial captain, and when you first enter Castle Dour, you hear a bunch of boring military talk, as opposed to when you first enter the Palace of Kings, you hear Ulfric give this grand speech about fighting for what you believe in.
    8) Not to put too fine a point on it, but Alessia has nothing to do with this. She founded the _First_ Empire, and the one that's fighting the Thalmor is the _Third_ Empire.

I am a pro imperial but a must contest one thing:
Talos is not a Aedra, Talos is three entities in one: Tiber Septim, born in high rock (fuck that atmora bullshits, Tiber is 90% Breton) Zurin (a powerful mage) and Wulfhart (a Shezzarine, Tiber best friend)
Talos is all these three people, Tiber by creating Talos (which is basically a prison for his friends and a powerful tool for him) achieved chim (being aware of what this whole world is, allowing him to do the fuck he want) we can say he transcended reality and can't be injured in any method by the world he transcended, he can't die like the Aedra can, he is even superior then Daedra or Anu and Padomay themselves (the two primitive forces that originated everything)
That's very deep lore, kind of hard to explain (in particular cause English is not my native language) but I hope to have been as clear as possible

I always imaged it works in such a way that et'Ada gods, like the aedra and daedra, and Chim gods, like Talos and Vivec, exist as two different kinds of gods, so comparing them is meaningless. Years late to the party, while Bethesda intentionally gave players reasons to oppose both parties, Stormcloaks are definitely the good guys as far as their conflict with Imperials is concerned. Not only are Thalmor the literal Aldmer equivalent of Nazi's (and the game makes sure to tell us they practice it, with all the torture locations they setup around Skyrim), but there are many other situations where this becomes apparent.
Something people will commonly claim is "the Stormcloaks are racist". At no point in the game does such a thing become apparent. There is one Nord in Wildhelm who says he should take action against the Dunmer, because he in person is biased against Elves. Other than that you may find Nords who have dialogue lines where they speak unfavourably of Elves/Thalmor, but usually there is no context given or it's simply related to the war.
Now, then some people might name the Gray Quarter as consider it a social divide, but well before the events of Skyrim Dunmer migrated from Morrowind to settle primarily in the Snow Quarter, later renamed the Gray Quarter. It became impoverished and does seem to house a higher rate of crime. Still, that seems to have been a consequence of an age-old divide between the quarters, as in all the major cities (including the holds controlled by Stormcloaks by default), there are plenty of non-Nord or non-Human residents, with plenty of them in decent positions. Even some Dunmer from the Gray Quarter walking around will comment to the player that "...them complaining about the situation isn't helping anyone...".
In fact, at the start of the game the Imperials are happy to execute you regardless of you being unassociated with the Stormcloaks (Imperial warcrime: executing innocent civilians), you can join the Stormcloaks with any character race. Seems like a contradiction if you call them racist/biased. It's not like non-Nords or non-Humans are suddenly barred from society, in fact there's plenty of Adlmeri citizens to be found everywhere. In contrast, bands of warriors from Hammerfell are actually barred full entrance as can be seen in Whiterun... despite Hammerfell being an ally to Skyrim against the Thalmor (I'm not giving special thought to Whiterun's default neutrality here).
Which brings me to another fun fact. A lot of people claim "Nords this, Nords that" to try and prove their point that Nords following Ulfric Stormcloak are the problem, but... it's not just Nords. Hammerfell also pulled out of the Empire and is also fighting the Thalmor (successfully). As is made painfuly obvious to players constantly through dialogue and lore found in books/notes: the Empire submitted to the Aldmeri Dominion and has lost the ability to defend itself. A lot of people will say "The Empire is stronger with Skyrim, as allies" but there is no independent Empire anymore to speak of. There are no Imperial plans to counter the Aldmeri Dominion. It's like dealing with Vichy-France, under the control of Nazi-Germany, while being an allied power in WW2. In fact, that makes the Imperials the more racist/biased side for selling out all the territory and traditions of other races/regions...
Further diving into the lore preceding the game, the Empire had already ceded Valenwood and Elsweyr before the war even started. Then as they fought the war, which saw the Imperial city looted and attrocities committed by the Thalmor, the Imperials managed to counter the Thalmor and took out a lage port of their army in Cyrodiil... after which Titus Mede II suddenly accepted concessions in the White-Gold Concordat -- which were virtually identical to the demands the Thalmor made at the start of the war, which the Imperials rejected -- and gave away southern parts of Hammerfell and outlawed Thalos and gave the Thalmor free reign to enforce any of this in the Imperial provinces.
Are you really a good guy when you fight the big enemy together with your vassals, successfully, then decide to pull out but have all the concessions impact your vassals... and then join the enemy to enforce it? It's clear as day that the Aldmeri Dominion are the clear evil side, which the Empire inexplicably decided to join forces with despite up to that very point having firmly rejected the exact demands they suddenly agreed to. Obviously local figures would never agree to giving up all their land and tranditions when they were winning, together with the Empire, against the Thalmor and there is no way the Empire wouldn't know this. Meaning, this war for the Northern provinces is the stupidest concoction that the Imperials came up with in all the lore of Elder Scrolls combined... it's their fault.
As for the final common argument that Ulfric is supposedly a Thalmor spy, I disagree completely. The way those texts are written seem to imply that the Thalmor are using him, not that he is willingly doing their bidding. What those letters mean is that the Thalmor are aware that they can try to use Ulfric's actions to further break the Empire apart to somehow gain the upper hand again, but it's important to not forget that this is only possible because the Imperials have sided with the Thalmor/Aldmeri Dominion in the first place. Obviously, from their perspective, if the Empire would suddenly start infighting I'd stoke the fires as much as possible and then strike in the future when they have sufficiently weakened one another. The Empire is to blame for that, because they decided to side with the Thalmor and allow this to happen. At any time can they stop and focus on the real threat: the Aldmeri Dominion, but they flat out refuse. So it seems they are truly taking the stance of Vichy-France where they are just along for the ride with the enemy and don't really do anything themselves anymore, which means it's up to other factions in Tamriel to complete the job. Besides, even if you do read the notes beyond what they imply, you have to understand that normally if you uncover a plot in Skyrim then the other party also has some kind of note or journal on them that confirms it. This is not the case with Ulfric. This means that if the Thalmor notes are to be read as if they consider Ulfric a Thalmor agent, then that could just as easily be a lie they can use to coerce people to fight against him (we don't know where those letters are going, do we).
In addition, if we are to discuss responsibility, one has to look no further than the Markarth Incident where then-Jarl Hrolfdir requested Ulfric to help get rid of the Forsworn with the promise of allowing Talos worship, only to fall back on the agreement and then also side with the Thalmor (and thus Imperials) and arrest Ulfric. In addition, Hrolfdir was foolish enough to thus not completely deal with the Forsworn and instead ordered some to be imprisoned (which, yes, may also be contributed to Thonar Silver-Blood in the case of Madanach, but keep in mind that Hrolfdir was still the Jarl at the time). Literally no decision the pro-Imperial side has made since that moment they beat the Thalmor army before the White-Gold Concordat was signed has been beneficial for anyone in the Imperial province. "Yeah, but if you just go along with us we will be stronger in the future!" Nope, buddy, not with your backstabbing nature, we won't.
That said, in the end, there is one final thing to say. Something almost nobody ever even considers and would make for the most interesting choice for Bethesda if they have to consider a canon conclusion to the war: the Dragonborn does not have to side with either party.
As some Daedric Princes will tell the Dragonborn along his or her journey when they ask for power, what more power could you possibly want as a mortal? You are a Dragonborn, you are already going around killing dragons on a daily basis and your voice alone has more power behind it than many prominent mortal figures you will meet along the way. You have more power in your baby toes than your enemies have in their combined armies. No wonder several Daedric Princes literally call you about half as strong as they are. It really wouldn't be so weird for the Dragonborn to just completely ignore the Nords and Imperials and just take out every Thalmor that sets a foot into Skyrim, then looking over his shoulder and flat out asking why both the Imperials and Stormcloaks are still fighting. In fact, a power (with or without the Dragonborn) appearing to take the fight to the Thalmor to help ease tensions between Imperials and other factions like the Stormcloaks and Hammerfell resistance groups seems like a very plausible lore concept. This would also create a nice possible sequel concept where maybe the player explores regions that are successfully rising up against the Thalmor, so you would have a game where you would either be bringing the fight to them or perhaps it can be set in an aftermath where that has already happened.
Either way, the Stormcloaks and Hammerfell rebels are simply mad for being sold out. You can't blame them, as they were really sold out. The Imperials refuse to fight and sided with the big enemy. You cannot objectively call the Imperials the good guys or objectively call the rebels bad for fighting for their own land. That said, from the logical options the player has in Skyrim... nothing prevents the Dragonborn from just hunting the Thalmor directly.
Are Stormcloaks good? Yes, for defending their land. Are Imperials good or bad? They make bad decisions for everyone and side with the bad guys and are complicit in committing warcrimes, even if they will claim they act in the best interest for everyone, which doesn't absolve one of their crimes. Does the Dragonborn have to side with either of these for a most ideal outcome and does it make the Dragonborn a good guy for joining either side? Not really, no.

If you claim that the Stormcloaks aren't racist you haven't been paying attention. The Stormcloak Commanders proudly proclaim that they will kick out the elves, generic Stormcloak soldiers join on race-based fallacies in the form of being a ''true'' Nord, or having a problem with an ''Elf telling them how to live''. Ulfric himself believes Skyrim is meant to be full of Nords and has enacted race-based policies in Windhelm. Thongvor Silver-Blood is also eager to blame all of elvenkind for the banning of Talos worship.
Hammerfell is not fighting the Thalmor, and hasn't done so for over 20 years. It took them five more years of fighting - with a ton of Legion veterans supporting them - to merely halt the Aldmeri advance and sign their own peace treaty. Hammerfell's ''success'' is always painfully overstated by Stormcloak supporters. The Empire has been actively preparing itself for Great War 2.0. ever since the Concordat was signed. Hell, speaking to the Legates, Rikke, and Tullius make it abundantly clear. Tullius even outright states how the civil war in Skyrim is but an ''interlude'' before the main event against the Thalmor resumes, and that he has to fight with local recruits because the bulk of the Imperial army is on the border with the Dominion.
Titus Mede accepted the terms of the Concordat because had he not the entire Empire would've fallen. This is canon, not a discussion. The Thalmor also weren't able to enforce the terms of the Concordat until after Ulfric's collaboration with them at Markarth forced the Empire to openly break the terms of the treaty. Barring that, the Empire does not enforce the Talos ban, unsure where you got this idea from that they do,
Also I got to laugh at your idea that the dossier on Ulfric is ''fake news'' when it's literally a classified document hidden at the Thalmor Embassy. I also like how you bring up Markarth yet ignore Ulfric demanding free Talos worship as payment despite the Talos ban not even being enforced at the time. Sure is a weird coincidence that the Justiciars only came around after Ulfric started agitating about the ban... not. Hrolfdir was the Jarl, but he did not hold the power in the Reach. Hrolfdir had tried Madanach and sentenced him to death, Ulfric and his Silver-Blood cronies saved Madanach.

Last I read the Markath Incident involved the Jarl of Markarth promising Talos worship to be allowed within the city if Ulfric freed the city for him. The Empire only came into the picture when the Thalmor found out and forced them to crack down on Ulfric.

I'm afraid not, it was Jarl Hrolfdir, Igmund's father, who promised worship of Talos, not the Empire.

Jarl of Markarth: "Ok you can worship Talos, but be quiet about it like everyone else"
Ulfric and his thugs: "WHY DO I HAVE TO BE QUIET I LOVE TALOS! TALOS MY MAN, WOOOOOOH!"
      Thalmor: "Well well well"

This Is an Overrated Image Oh good point. I am convinced
Ondolemar is right btw. With the stormcloaks weakening the empire like this Id be surprised if Tamriel didnt return to the good ol days, when there was no empire and humans were all slaves

I don't think the arguments here are strong enough against the Empire, except the argument that Skyrim should not be forced the deals of the white conduct as they are a different people.
My arguments are that the Emperor did wrong in surrendering to the Domminion as the Empire were just starting to win and the Domminion suffered heavy loses.
The Emperor could have chosen to prusue the elves or negotiate a white peace. However, he chose to give into all the original demands of the elves, except the payment.
The elves are weak as they take longer time to procreate. We can see the Empire wrecked them because when Hammerfell rebelled the Domminion could not stop them and were forced to leave.
25 years have passed and that's enough time for the race of men to procreate and recover.
Also despite what the Imperials say, it's the Empire who needs Skyrim, not the other way around. Skyrim was never attacked or invaded. None of their towns or cities were destroyed. The Imperial places were and they are the ones who truly suffer.
Skyrim can either launch a defensive war or ally with Hammerfell to take down the Domminion. They don't need the Empire at all to fight the elves.

Uh no. In a full scale war with the Dominion or the Empire, the Stormcloaks would lose. They are a smaller force made up entirely of Nords. Meanwhile the Empire recruits all races and receive better training and equipment. And the Dominion are masters of magic (Nords are very weak and ignorant of magic). Not to mention all the non-Nords in Skyrim would revolt against racist ass Ulfric.

ZoomerX24 Ulfric isn’t racist & Skyrim after breaking away will simply train troops into proper fighters dumbass

@Galaxy -Ulfric IS a racist and go to Windhelm and speak to any Argonians and Dunmer you meet .
An independent Skyrim training its troops is pointless when the Dominion has the larger numbers and after the civil war Skyrim will be heavily damaged anyway

I joined the stormcloaks because the empire can only be ruled by a true dragonborn but the empire is in the pockets of the Thalmor and the dragonborn doesn't deal in petty bureaucracy.

Why Stormcloaks are the Best Option
    - The Beginning, You begin to get executed right on the spot when not on the list
    - Roggvir’s Execution, the witness who saw Ulfric challenging the High King in Fair Combat, executed for opening the gate. No jail, straight execution
    - Quest Missing in Action , Arrested Gray Mane expected of Worship of Talos or 1 of stormcloaks. Was False accusations
    - Random Encounters of Thalmor/Legion Troops with Stormcloak prisoners or Talos Worshipper
    - A majority of Skyrims people either worship Talos or were people who fought the war against the Thalmor.
    - The Markarth Incident
    - Stormcloak Victory no more headsman.
    - Difference between Imperials and Stormcloaks. LEGION :You got mostly men fighting
Stormcloaks: Men and Women fighting together
Now I know Some may argue that this is false but you mainly see 3 Female Legionnaire Soldiers
1 in the Beginning, Legate Rikke and 1 in East Empire Trading company in Windhelm
Everything I listed here are reasons why the Stormcloaks are the best ones for Skyrim.
+ Would you rather have 6 Strongholds occupied by People wielding two handed weapons (Stormcloaks).
    Or
    4 Strongholds with imperials.
Because if you look at how many Forts there are in the Civil War, you may find that bandits occupy it.
    5 against 4.
Capturing Whiterun would garrison 2 Forts : Fort Greymore and 1 other close to Ivarstead
    Fort Neugard
    Fort Sungard
    Then Morthal and Solitude.
