    Roman Catholic here, this is such a beautifully sung song. God bless all our orthodox brothers and sisters. I pray one day we can all be one.

    Lvov was so great! This and Предстояще Кресту are among my favorite Orthodox pieces. I think this performance is too slow, though -- Recordings by Nicolas Afonsky late of New York and Piotr V Spassky late of Paris from the 50's/60's get it right IMO. It is surely to be slow and mystical, but just _how_ slow is surely an issue.
    VitalyGR hasn't been around on this channel for many years, but, thank you wherever you are for the tremendous gift of this Russian Orthodox treasure-trove...

    I've always wanted to be a music educator and to teach a course in music theory. I'd make this a non-graded dictation test: "Add corrections, or even additional parts, to the music based on what you hear versus what you see as given." It'd be an awesome way for people to identify where they can hear certain voices (SATB) better than others. And in this case, even some Oktavists. I know nobody asked, but I guess I hope that gives a music theory teacher an idea for their curriculum since I didn't follow through myself with being a music educator.... Great piece and excellent performance, btw. I love it.

    Очень интересная картина получилась.Соло альта с хором :) Очевидно альт стояла близко к микрофону.Но это не испортило,а скорее привнесло новую краску в это известное,и что уж греха таить,уже запетое всеми произведение.
    Понравилось,+5.

    Awesome. For an English rendition, check out the CD Liturgy of the Presanctified Gifts, by the St. Vladimir's Seminary Choir, 1972.

    on the first page of the note sheet, i think it reads, *below the pp* -that the Oktavist, may sing an entire octave below the written notes. During the rest of the song there is no written notes below G2, even though i hear oktavist's singing an entire octave below ..!

    • @lonewaer
      @lonewaer 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Nice catch, "hereafter the bass line doubles to an octave" is exactly what is written. I was wondering, trying to read through what I thought was the bass 2 part. Now I'm wondering if in Russian choirs, the bass part is just automatically filled with oktavists, and anyone who's not is just a different variation of bass 1. The thing in this piece is that even at that point, it's all very much easy to sing for non-oktavists too.

      @@lonewaer listen version with Kochetov as oktavist...now that version has that oktavist true sound.Be blessed in Jesus name

    Waitaminute. Bass 2 part is off. Or is there a bass 3 part, am I just hearing profundos going C3 instead of C4 (1:54 ; and then A2 instead of A3 just after, at 2:21 ) ? I'm following the bass 2 part, but the sheets says "keep going up", and I can hear the octave under. In fact, anything written above G3 can be heard an octave lower. Are those "normal" basses or just the oktavists keeping up (down) with the high range of this piece ? I would suspect the latter, but I'm still unclear.

      From bar 4, the composer (or editor) notes that the bass part may be doubled an octave lower throughout

    There is a problem in the notation : the a flat of the sopranos, 9 bars before the end should be a dotted half and not just a half - and same thing of the f of the altos, 4 bars before the end, which should be dotted too

    A good recording, but in my opinion best suited for male choir. Check out Moscow Sretensky Choir. St. Sergius RepresentationChoir ( V. Gorbik ) may have a recording as well.

    I prefer baroque choir music than these songs, it is very monotonous without using orchestra with the choir.

      Y ou can't glorify God with an intermediary. Orthodox does not use musical instrument like an organ, so low voices are very important. this is church music and not festive music.
