fans of this arc can't take anything as I see. I view this arc as a masterpiece, no doubt, but the anime introduces big problems with constantly trying to prolong episode with slowmo when not needed, with repeated scenes, with the narrator that would explain a move that you literally just saw or explain something that the character will do next or wants to, when it could use the inner monologue or just show the scene without narration. And the shocking part is that anime never stops adapting 2 chapters per episode. So that's something that Togashi started doing in the manga. Which actually thrown me off when I tried to read Dark Continent because he would put enormous text bubbles with a damn book inside of it.
The pace is definitely the biggest flaw of this arc, and I dont like how dismissive some fans tend to be any criticism towards it. Although I do love some slow-burn stories, this arc feels like it overstays its welcome and drags way too much to a very nice payoff. I didnt had a problem with the narration prior but on the Chimera arc the whole "Show dont tell" is thrown out the window. IT IS just too excessive and it kills the pacing, slows down the action and it just comes off as the anime not trusting the audience enough. And the worst part is when it says stuff like "Gon is sad" Killua smiled" when we clearly can see whats going on. I love the concept of this arc, all the ideas, gon dark side that is brought more to the surface all the while the ant king learns to be human. But again, I agree that it could benefit with some more cuts, and not focus TOO MUCH on some minor characters, ants and still drive the same theme and point across. Its not a perfect arc by any means like hxh fans make you believe. But its still a great arc with some of the best moments, even though I prefer Yorknew.

You don't understand what pacing in story telling is. Your video is about structure not pacing. You have an issue with the structure not the pacing of the Chimera arc. An example of pacing issues in story telling or media content is how you spend far too much time in this very video talking about the Yorknew arc rather than getting to what the video is about. An arc being long isn't a problem in itself but wasting too much time on an a side point. Characterisation and narration also have nothing to do with pacing. Those are completely different. Again they come under Story structure not story pacing.
Incorrect, structure and design are directly correlated to the pacing. Using tools such as slow motion and extensive narration bogs down the pacing a great deal. The speed and pacing of a story depends on the tools you choose to use. Opting for more visual story telling and less narration would have made the arc far shorter and entertaining. I spent a lot of time on Yorknew to show how much better the pacing is in comparison.
@@ExplicitSage It seems like a matter of preference. Imo the Yorknew arc was faster paced then the Chimera ant arc because they told different stories.
I understand why you feel that way but it wasn't an issue for me bc a lot of different things were happening in the same time. For example only on rewatch I understood why Killua was so shocked when he ran to save the octopus guy. I remembered that he had never tried to save anyone except for Gon before. So that was the moment when Killua realized that he can have real friends except for him, their whole relantionship changed in that arc
Bro I’m genuinely surprised you didn’t catch that. Why? Because the narrator explained extensively why Killua saving the octopus 🐙 was vital for the mission. If you go back and watch that episode, far too much time was wasted on unnecessary exposition. We already knew the mission. A visual showing the enemy ants would have served the exact same purpose.
@@ExplicitSage I didn't get the part where the narator explain why Killua save that Octopus (I accidentaly skip it). Who the hell need that? It ruin everything
I completely agree. This arc has its moments, but it forgets about Kurapika, Leorio and Hisoka, it forgets about the Phantom Troupe and Chrollo, and introduces a bunch of not interesting characters instead. This matters because it represents half of the show. After spending the first half establishing the Phantom Troupe and explaining how you only get stronger if you train hard enough, it gives birth to new overpowered villains out of nowhere. Everything happens way too slow, you almost never see a fight beginning to end in a single episode. It keeps jumping from one situation to the next, you don't have time to feel invested in a single one of them, save for a few beautiful exceptions. And most importantly, Gon started as an innocent kid, this arc made him kill a person, and this has absolutely zero psychological consequence on him. A few episodes after the Pitou fight he's an innocent kid again, and nobody ever mentions or questions what he did. Kaito comes back, Gon's health is fine because of the newly introduced magical Killua sister who makes everyone pay for their wishes, except for Killua, who's going to be fine too. They decided to only keep Gon and Killua for this arc, and yet they wasted the opportunity to make them have any kind of development.
The whole Chimera Ant arc just felt weird to me, it felt so out of place, it came out of nowhere, no build up, it just happened. I couldn't buy into it, nothing about that arc was working for me for some reason. The only character I liked was Mereum. Literally the only arc I enjoyed in this show was the Yorknew City arc, which was brilliant, and what followed it? yep, the worst arc I have seen in shonen anime, the Greed Island arc. Truly awful. The narrator in the Chimera Ant arc was the final straw for me. The rest of the show I just slogged through. If it ever returns for another series, I won't be watching.
Pacing of the invasion part in the arc is getting out of hand sometimes. Like, I'm giving it a full rewatch, because with a first watch I skipped a lot. Narrator is irritating, slow mo and constant repeats are irritating resulting in a worse result even compared to the beginning of the arc.

There NO WAY you seriously believe your own point of >characters born to die and phantom troupe arc is the most guilty of that. You are a jester looking for attention.
Both arcs have similar aspects as the troupe and ants were BOTH born to die. The difference is that in the Yorknew arc 30 episodes weren’t spent on developing the phantom troupe. That’s a fundamental issue in the chimera ant arc. We absolutely didn’t need to have so much time with the ants. As the majority were of them were going to die anyway.
Failed to convince YOU? Who gives a fk about you? Plenty of blind HxH fans who dont wsnt to be convinced. They are just stpd and irrational, and uneducated. Be proud of that if you want, lol. Clown.

Something to think about :Dddddddddddd dude if that sort of banal beaten to death dichotomy is something to think about... wow, you are living in some sht education system. Read a book, boy.
Visual Storytelling being implemented more often would have made the arc far shorter. Fixing most of the pacing issues and reduce the need for the invasive narrator.
While disposition is understandably important, the Chimera Ant Arc sacrificed vital entertainment value.
No one is considering it the best anime arc :Dddddd in no universe. You are in some sort of fkng bubble. Its not even the best hxh arc, its the worst or maybe the second worst.
@@ExplicitSage not only that. The author shouldve disposed of anything thats unecessry to the main story... To many setups that lead nowhere. Annoying.
@@Woodsaras Name me a setup that went nowhere
Gotta Disagree
Lmao I clicked off at 2:48 cause he was taking too long
No way you could have finished the arc then.
contrarian boooo ...
Sorry to tell you this but, togashi never misses, no seriously
This whole arc is really slow. Most of pre - Palace Invasion in this arc feels like filler. Even after Palace Invasion, they drag it out way too long. You could gut like 2/3rds of this entire arc and still have more than enough info to fill you in and tell the story. Weakest arc in HxH, so far.
Most of the other arcs are great.
you're right... but the fans can't handle that of course
It’s a shame. I really like HXH but it’s important to point out when an arc has vital issues.
The fandom gets crazy when you call out their favorite anime on their bs lol.
Finally! Someone understands!
I agree.
never cook again
That shit was fucking trash don’t let them silence you yeah it had some good moments but the pacing was SOOOOOOOO bad and it didn’t pay off. York New clears
I'm not sure why you guys are bothered by the narrator, at worst he just provided background info and at best he synchronised the events of the arc in an easy clear to understand way.
Im not gonna they could have shaved off 5-10 episodes of the palace invasion part
@@ayinstrumentals7731 Lmfao I disagree. Can you name any of those eps which they should have shaved off?
@@based4560 not any full episodes really but you can't lie there were a few episodes where they may have thrown like 5 total pinches across a whole episode or just stared at each other and monologues to themselves for a lil longer than necessary. Also the constant recaps kinda just inflated the run time. I like the story but it could have been told a lil better
@@ayinstrumentals7731 I really don't know what your talking about. I actually prefer this style because I like slow paced anime. This anime may not be for you bro.
it turned a shonen into a horror anime in the first halve and if that's what you like more power to you but i hated it
Damn bro get wrecked by the comment section. This video is a good example of when clickbait goes to far 😂
More like a good example of hxh fans being babies who’ll defend garbage
Yea bro I just finished the chimera ant arc today I watched it for 2 days straight. But yea the narration was pissing me off and the fights took hella long to actually happen
When the build up is too long, you can’t even get excited for special moments.
So what I gather from this video is, that you would have rather had the ants have absolutely zero development and just see pretty animation fights. I see.
There are definitely things I didn't about the chimera ark, like Kite's death and reincarnation. I hated that. Plus things are jumping around a lot to keep up with.🤔
Agreed. The pacing was just rediculous. If a character farted this fking narator would come out & freez the screen for minutes and explain to us how and why the gas was released.
Yeah but then people cry when somethings too short, or not in enough detail. Happens everytime
Disagreed 👹👍
Pitou is a guy
You are entitled to your own opinion but you have thoroughly failed to convince me. Your reasoning is made up of bad analogies, absurd takes, hypocrises and most ironic of all, wrapped up in a poorly paced video.
Clown.
@@ExplicitSage But this sort of thing is haunting the whole series, plenty of abrupt endings or setups, characters that lead nowhere. It's just that chimera ants arc is the most guilty. It was more akin to some sht novel, not anime/manga. The dude clearly had no proper plan or direction when he did HxH series.
@@ExplicitSage We did need the time with the ants because their evolution before they are ultimately killed is the whole point of the arc. Especially with the King who turned out to be more human than the humans in the end. The two arcs aren't comparable. It's like Apples and Oranges. Also you need to look up what Pacing in story telling is. Your video has nothing to do with Pacing.
I know right. The 1st thing that struck me about this video is the thought that this video on poor pacing is wasting a sizable chunk of it's time talking about another arc. get to the point! That there is such a meta example of poor pacing. Then as he listed the things he wishes to cover in the video, it turns out that this dude doesn't even know what pacing is. Characters, length and structure don't have anything to do with pacing. Too long doesn't mean poorly paced. At that point I scrolled down to the comments section to leave my comments meaning I didn't even get through half the video.
Fluff you
Fax
you trying to hard. im going back to sleep😴
IT SEEMS THE ARC MIGHT BE BLOATED BUT I'M NOT SURE.
boooooooooooo
It was good but some parts felt soooooo stretched
No

Bad Visual storytelling??? How could you possibly grasp the subtle changes and intricacies of those battles and thought patterns thru only visuals?? … the narrator was merely a perspective to illustrate those subtle changes 🤷♂️🤦♂️… how THE FUCK can someone else be in a 3rd person and discuss what the main character is thinking??? 🥴🤦♂️ they’re not in they’re head… it’s not possible … therefore… NARRATOR
