🌿 I recently read a small biography that covered Ava's time in show business. It seemed each of the men she married were bullies and used mental cruelty to try to control her. Comments in the Q&A of this website suggested Ava chose not to have children, while the article I read said she was pregnant twice with Sinatra's children but was forced to get abortions by MGM! Also, even though someone at MGM dubbed another singer over her voice in "Showboat," Ava's voice is on the movie's soundtrack. Early on she had taken singing lessons and crictics were said to prefer her voice over the one we hear during the movie.
I wonder why she married bullies who used mental cruelty to try to control her. A woman like Ava Gardner, I would think, could call the shots at least in some areas of her life. Perhaps those men were good in bed, and she had a weakness for that. (it's a thing) Can we really say she was forced to get abortions by MGM? Or did they merely threaten to not renew her contract? To say *force* implies force was used. That's like when you're physically overpowered, tied up, possibly slapped and punched. That's what forced means. You've made me wonder about her. Forced here, build and intimidated there. Overdubbed .... poor victim. Tough life, Except that she was living her own dream, and it mist ave meant everything for her to be up on that screen, seen by everyone.
The trials and tribulations of a unique love story with many different emotions. The Show Boat which was first produced by Florenz Ziegfeld, music by Jerome Kern and lyrics by Oscar Hammerstein II was definitely one catchy sing along musical. It takes place on a Mississippi river in a boat which is docked on the cotton blossom. The musical is about the lives of two best friends Magnolia and Julie. We get a chance to see the journey life takes them while on and off the showboat. Both females meet the love of their lives on the boat and with all the obstacles the went through, it is one love story to remember. This musical being one of the first integrated musicals had unveils a common theme of love and racism. The one drop rule had a huge impact on one of the main characters lives. This was my first time watching or even hearing of this musical, so I didn’t really have any expectations of it. As soon as it started, I was amazed by the boat and the very catchy songs. I found myself wanting to sing along even though I didn’t know the words. The actors did an amazing job and at no point will you be confused as to what is going on. This musical is very relevant to today’s culture because some of the difficulties the women faced in their love life, a lot of us still go through the same thing. Also, racism has been a very popular topic on our day-to-day news. I would recommend this musical for someone 14 + as it deals with love, alcoholism and racism. Some of the content might be a bit though to comprehend in the sense that why is some being treated this way or why is this person acting like this. Overall, I would recommend watching this musical. It a story that takes you through so many emotions you might have to remind you self it is just a film.
