    Been looking into this for a while. I've seen other ideas. Yours is definitely an easy solution to others I have seen. Keeps the mini dinos from scratching everything up and having to rotate and replant. I love it! Thank you so much.

    Thank you for this! We moved to a farm and sadly the previous owner did not take care of her property, there’s no grass mostly harsh weeds. Where the chickens are kept is nothing but dry sandy dirt. I’m sure going to try this.

    If you put the hardware cloth on the ground and then walk on it as you roll it out, it flattens pretty good.

      Can use pure Linseed oil to preserve wood. It is non toxic and natural. Will not harm chickens, plants or humans.

    This is great ... Just what I was looking to do in my run. Great solution. What size hardware cloth (the openings)? .25? .5? I would think smaller would be better since they need to walk on it?

    Fantastic construct and I will definitly use it. Only one question regarding size.
    My Coop has a chicken yard within a cage and the area is about 7x3,5 meters. How big should the Grazing box be, with that size?

    Great tutorial! Do you have any idea how many square metres are required for each bird? What other feed do the birds get each day?

    • @BockBockBouquet
      @BockBockBouquet  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      This is just a treat and something for them to do during the day to peck at. We feed our flock chicken feed layer feed available to them all day free choice

    Good idea. Do you think it would work if I pegged chicken wire straight into the ground?

    • @BockBockBouquet
      @BockBockBouquet  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks! I think they wouldn't scratch it out of the ground, but they could still chew it right out and de-root it. This works like a charm, currently going on like 4-5 months and the grass is still very full

  • @nicholasnapier2684
    @nicholasnapier2684 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    That would be a good idea because you could use Chia seed or amaranth seed.

    I too live in the desert. I will make one of these this weekend . Question, I built my girls coup off the ground so they have shade, however there is an old tree stump there. I no they want to dig and get cool, but between hard soil and stump they have a difficult time. I was thinking about getting a big bag of organic soil and place it there so they can snuggle down into it. Any thoughts? I let them out a lot, but for days when they get stuck in run I want them to be comfortable.

    Do you think I could used quarter inch hardware cloth instead of half inch?

    • @BockBockBouquet
      @BockBockBouquet  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I would think you sure can! As long as the grass or sprouts can fit and grow through it. I would prefer the half inch though because the hens beaks can fit through it a little more and they can grab bites deeper down

      @@BockBockBouquet right on! They’re some of my favorite people. I used to work at Pirates Press so they’re practically family. Colin has rescue chickens so if you run into him at rebellion he’ll talk your ear off about them.

      @BockBockBouquet  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      That’s awesome! So you must be from the East Bay area? Very good bands on Pirates Press. I’ve met Skip at some of the fests he’s done. I play in a band called Broken Cuffs, check us out on IG, Spotify. We get to play Rebellion for the first time this year, I sure will try and talk to him about chickens ❤️

      @@BockBockBouquet I’m actually from Alaska, but spent 25+ years working security gigs and putting on shows in the lower 48, west coast mostly. I worked for Skip when I was living in SF. That’s dope you’re playing rebellion! I’ll check out the band for sure.

      Yeah. The punk shirts caught my eye too when I started looking for chicken videos. Ex-skinhead here. Used to play drums in an Oi band from Atlanta called Terminus City. (Check out the album Justice Isn’t Always Fair on Spotify if you’re so inclined.) Saw Cock Sparrer in Atlanta a long time ago. We played with a lot of great bands like the Business, Oxymoron, Agnostic Front, Dropkick Murphys, Anti-Heros…
      Calmed down a bit in my old age though. 😉

      To the left is a mottled lavender orpington, and to the right is our olive egger ( silverudd cross with Marans) even our barred rock is mixed with an ameraucana, so she is a barred Easter Egger =]

    We let our older flock out for a few hours every evening to free range but we stay with them. We have a fenced in area w/ bird netting over the top for our younger flock so they can free range a little everyday. Making a grazing box is a great idea too... Here's how...
