    My grandmother taught me to make my bed first thing in the morning; it starts your day off right and when you come home after a crappy day you'll feel the stress leave you when you see your beautiful bed waiting for you. She was absolutely right.

      Yes! Your grandma is right. That’s how I start my day, and when I am home from work and I see my perfectly made bed, life feels good again!

      I think we had the same grandmother. Making the bed first thing was instilled in me at an early age.

      I let my bed open at the daytime! At night we are sweating 1-1,5 ltrs . It goes in to the bed. So the bed needs fresh air! So. Bed open and window open! Only than you can be sure to have a nice fresh bed in the evening! I make my bed nicely if i aspect visitors who could ask to see the house!

    • @davidgaulke8670
      @davidgaulke8670 5 ปีที่แล้ว +10

      User. . I believe the reason for the tag is to regulate what the mattress companies used. The tag states what it is made of and if not up to code by state standards the company can get a fine. The line says “under penalty of law this tag not to be removed except by the consumer” so it’s not illegal to remove them since you are the consumer.

    • @itsme-rt7nz
      @itsme-rt7nz 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I used to think that too! But back when I was a kid, I think it only said "Do not remove under penalty of law." I don't think it said anything about post-consumer. That made it very confusing because we didn't know who they were talking to.

    Every morning here too...after it has had a chance to air out...and if I happen to forget, I will make it as soon as I see it....even if it is close to bedtime...that might sound strange, but it keeps me in the habit, and it is still rewarding to me. 💖

    Jenna’s mom Beth here. My husband was career military so I have been in different climates. Sometimes instead of a coverlet I have used a blanket. To get the magazine look and also stay warm I was taught to put two comforters inside a duvet; looks fuller. And the best thing we did was invest in 4 really good pillows to sleep with. We also used white pillowcase protectors with zippers underneath regular pillow cases. Extra decorative euro pillow shams and throw pillows didn’t need to be expensive. Also 40 years and a gaggle of children and grandchildren the extra fancy pillows weren’t always employed. Your videos are highly enjoyable and appreciated.

    Thanks so much for this. I make my bed daily and it's almost the first thing I do. A bed can be 25 percent of the room. So when that's done, and it only takes two or three minutes, then a quarter or more of the room is perfect. Yay!

    Every morning. My husband always likes the turned down look. He says it looks more inviting when he comes to bed. So, it makes it easy. I started putting out sheet on flipped over so when I turn it down the nice top side shows instead of the dull underside.

      Me too plus a mattress protector-a high quality, thin one. My beds look so clean without the added bulk. Easier and lighter to launder. This other stuff, is nice for show, but for every day, is a real hassle to get off, heavy, and laundering and taking in and out of washer and drier, and carrying it back to room... yea not that fun. We see she needed help from her staff to make it. It's heavy. Also not a fan of leaving your bed partially uncovered...I'm paranoid if a bug might get in, plus there is dust even if not visible to the eye. You go to bed with dust all over it. Nope. My beds look really nice with simplicity, and I know it's clean when I go in.

    I am trying desperately to get up and out of bed daily. Each time I am out of bed, I want it made up. I try to make it up myself. I have Terminal Brain Cancer and sometimes cannot get out of bed or if I do I may not have the strength to make the bed. Today, with your advice, I am writing precise instructions on how I want my bed made when I am not able to complete the task myself. Thank you for your endless effort educating and helping people see and understand that they too can have a beautiful showroom home. I bought a huge 6000 square foot home when I was placed under the services of Hospice. (If under Hospice, one can claim 1/2 of their life insurance policies.) I have used yours and Betsy Helmeths’ information and inspiration to decorate every square inch. I live in Anderson, SC. I so wish you could come here and view basically what your information created. I still need to finish three rooms: The Foyer, Formal Living Room, and Master Bedroom. When I say finish, I’m referring to decluttering, and installation of the layout I want permanently. I have already chosen colors, furniture, accent pieces, lightening, and wall decor. I tried to use and go by a rule of “visibility”. I don’t know how these three rooms made it til the end. Anyway, this home is for my mom and family to live in after I pass. I want everything to be completed before that happens. I made up my mind that this was a much better way than them receiving a large amount of cash and not knowing how to manage it. The money will eventually run out. I wanted them to be able to have a very nice home that they never thought was possible. I have in place the utilities, insurance, and taxes for ten years also. I’m doing everything I can to make sure they are taken care of when I leave. I’m okay and have accepted what’s happening. I’m just not ready for it to happen anytime in the next few months. That’s the question of my life? How long? Sorry to rattle on. Thank you again for giving me a way to continue to learn new ideas and have something to challenge myself with instead of just sitting around feeling sorry for myself. You will never know the difference you are making in my life.

    After staying at the famed Peabody Hotel many years ago, I adopted their practice of using two top sheets. I buy sheet sets so the colors coordinate. The second top sheet allows extra comfort without the need for heavy spreads/comforters at night, and my sets interchange as I change/wash weekly.

      I used to live with a married couple for a short time. It was cute because every once in a while I would hear the wife tell her husband, "The last one out of the bed, makes the bed." (Signal for him to go back in and make the bed)
      I thought that was clever because it is also a great way to get up and out & to avoid sleeping in all day if you don't wanna be the one to make the bed.

    • @mayragossettandrade2418

      I think with look 3 the comforter is for looks or for functional use in the winter time. I’d use all blankets in the winter. For hot nights only use the quilt and coverlet and use the comforter for display.

      @Little Foot Tom maybe isn't American and I'm assuming you are. Having all these different items on your bed is an American thing. Maybe other countries do it too but in Europe, we just use a fitted sheet on the mattress and a duvet/duvet cover which is the thing she had her hands inside to put on. We wash that often and the duvet doesn't need to be washed very often at all. What do you mean by bedspread?

    I like to put a protective cover before I do a mattress cover. It protects against spills and bedbugs. All your bedding gets filled with the detritus you slough off over the course of years. So, it's definitely worth the investment!

    I peel all the covers back in the morning to air out the bed and make it when I get home. Keeps it fresh and dry. And I spray it with Lavender pillow spray to make it smell even better. * Studies proved that smelling Lavender before going to sleep helps you sleep more peacefully.

    I never make my bed, rather let the mattress and bedding air out. A Kingston University study showed that leaving a bed unmade during the day can remove moisture from the sheets and mattress so the mites will dehydrate and eventually die.

      @xXCarlijn12Xx 10 ปีที่แล้ว +9

      Exactly! I usually let it air out all day when I'm at school and when I get home I'll make my bed. Because nobody sees my bed when I'm not at home :)

      @linda01234567890 10 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      wow I just started airing it out too, the temp gets way above 80, no air (sweaty). Never made the bed till in my 30's, right when I got up was perfect time while I'm still tired and relaxed. So much easier getting in a made bed at night when your exhausted. But today the bathroom is downstairs, so after a beeline there, I forget all about it.

      I love the trick of folding back the end of the sheet/coverlet to create either a square corner or a tailored look. I run an Airbnb rental and make the bed especially inviting with plumped quilts and duvet covers. Always gives me a 5 star rating. I definitely opt for Bedroom number 3 and love the pillow layouts on your blue bedroom. Smashing.

      No it's not momma sorry, it's a bedspread, sometimes they'll have a ver small amount of padding in them with a stitched design, the thin layer of padding is just to bring out the stitched design. but sometimes they are just flat, and then there's the Candlewick bedspread which is in a class of it's own, and often very expensive... America just changed the name to coverlet why I have no idea lol... it dates back to when we used to use top sheet, bottom sheet then blankets, so before quilts. The bed spread was a way of adding colour and to disguise the wool blankets.

      Making your bed in this way takes only a minute? Bless your heart! I like the way this looks in a hotel, although I never know how to take it apart, and I hate when the upper sheet is tucked in. I have to pull it out on all three sides, pulling out the lower sheet accidentally. Not for me, unless I have a housekeeper to do it for me.
