- We are proud to announce that De Beers has joined National Geographic in a new partnership, Okavango Eternal.
Over the next five years, we commit to providing support and funding to accelerate the crucial work already underway to help protect the source waters of the Okavango Delta, one of Africa’s most important ecosystems - unrivalled in its biodiversity - and home to the world’s largest remaining elephant population.
The Okavango Basin spans southern Angola, north-eastern Namibia and northern Botswana and constitutes the main source of water for over 1 million people. While the Delta itself holds protected status, the greater Okavango Basin that sustains it does not. Various threats - exacerbated by climate change - are putting this critical water lifeline at risk.
Working together, and aligned with our commitment to #BuildingForever, we aim to partner for thriving communities and help protect this natural wonder and the lives and livelihoods it supports, for generations to come.
