    Would anyone say a cage is not a good investment. My pyrrie is 5mo and i have an XXL cage i have her bed and toys in there but i feel like when she's full grown the cage would be uncomfortable

    I get the bed, but why do you let him chew through his gear?

    We used a patio chaise cushion because they are cooler for the big fluffy dogs. They loved them. They did not like the beds because it was too warm for them.

    Good video. Thanks for your good work. Some people including me would buy all this stuff for our dog. But it's just not going to work like we think. I had a Labradoodle who hated leashes. She chewed through three of them before we simply gave up and trained her to come when called. The chain leash never occurred to me but that would be great.
    Thanks again

    We used to use a harness with our Pyr, but he got so he didn't need it once he got good about walking on a leash and we stopped using it. Though I'm not sure how some people use their harnesses we only put one on Zeus when we went for walks so he associated it with being able to go for a walk and didn't mind it at all. If we left it on him all the time, I'm sure he'd go nuts.

    Dog Bed - recommend Karunda -> survived our girl’s digging & bed-chewing stage, keeps her cool (elevated/cot-style), and super easy to clean.

    My Pyr sleeps in his bed about 40% of the time (he’s usually on the hardwood floor) but he also goes to his bed to pout if I scold him too much! 😂 So I guess he likes it.

    Pyrs like lying on the floor next to a doorway. They have the nickname of Matt dog due to that.

    I've used horse leads for dogs for the last 20 years. The 10 ft three ply cotton rope leads to me are the best. They tend to give and stretch just a little bit when the dog goes running to the end of his line. Acts like a shock absorber. And you can get them for less then 10$ usually.

      @mellowsadventures8285  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Yeah those would be good too especially since they are a nice thick rope!

    Bought a nylon harness and after a few weeks the dog started itching around its neck so I put my fingers under the harness and the nylon in the harness was actually pricking her skin so we went back to a regular collar leather

    We just got the great Pyrenees, she is 9 weeks old today, and she is just the sweetest!! Is it normal for them to nap all day? we have had her for two weeks but she is so amazing and cute! Thanks for the tips, love your videos!

    • @mellowsadventures8285
      @mellowsadventures8285  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Yeah it’s pretty normal for them to nap a lot due to them being low energy dogs! They really are amazing dogs!

    Leash? Pish, posh. My 82% Pyr will bite clean through an automobile seatbelt! And harnesses? Had two from my previous dog. Maximus made them into 4 for me. But I got him a better set-up with a tactical harness and he seems to like it ok.
    He will sleep on a dog bed in the shop, but at home he likes the tub, or the tile.

    Agree on first two. My Pyr has worn a Ruffwear harness since day 1. Your problem is you got a cheap ass harness. His current harness cost $100, but it is fantastic. I can even add a backpack to his harness so he can carry water and snacks while on long hikes. Never a expert problem and he is now two years old and over 130lbs.

    • @mellowsadventures8285
      @mellowsadventures8285  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Even with expensive harness he would slip out of them and chew them. Mellow personally is not a fan of harnesses.

    I have a 7 months old who tends to bit a lot especially in the evenings when he is fully awake and active. He doesn’t usually bit hard, but the secret is not to pull you hand or arm away quickly to avoid actually breaking the skin. Is this normal behavior for a GP puppy?

    • @mellowsadventures8285
      @mellowsadventures8285  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Mellow never really had a biting problem. However he would sometimes bite when we would try to bring his inside. He would normally grab the leash and trie and pull it out of our hands.

      My 4 month old half husky half gp mix used to have a huge biting problem. Whenever your dog bites try yelping like an injured dog/puppy and disengaging in any activity with them. I also corrected my pup sometimes with just a simple no. Both of these methods have helped me a lot so if you try them I hope you find success as well!

    • @steamdome9162
      @steamdome9162 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@TGold10 thank you for your reply. We have been doing that. Though the biting hasn’t stopped the pressure at which he bites has significantly lessen. We will keep at it as we hope this is just a puppy phase thing.

    • @TGold10
      @TGold10 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@steamdome9162 yes its a puppy phase thing. The fact that the pressure decreased is HUGE progress though! Good luck with everything!

    • @steamdome9162
      @steamdome9162 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@TGold10 this is helpful to know. We have had trainers tell us to consider re-home him to having him put to sleep. We could never do that and spend time researching for answers. The issue I’m finding is in the USA there isn’t a lot known about the breed. Even vets are ill informed. One told us to have the dew claws removed. Thankfully there are folks out on the internet willing to share their knowledge and experience. We want to give out GP the best life he can have.

    Harnesses are mandatory in our city for large breeds so our Great Pyr didn't have a choice but to get used to it. Which he did, really easily too. Its harness has fabric covering his whole chest though, it's not like yours. He loves his bed but also sleeps on carpets. Not so much on the hardwood floor. Never had a problem with chewing leashes for our Great Pyr, nor the one we had before him. He goes through a great amount of toy-rope though.

  • @1Igster1
    @1Igster1 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    Harnesses are a must when walking them... get a harness meant for sled dogs, they are confortable.

    • @mellowsadventures8285
      @mellowsadventures8285  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Harness can be good but they are not meant for dogs that pull because harness don’t provide as much control. Sled dog harness are not recommended for dogs that pull. I would recommend starting off with something else until your dog can walk nicely on a leash.
