Some dogs use grooming time as bonding time. None of mine liked to be groomed, but took care of their coats remarkably well. I just vacuumed up what was left. We own an undercoat rake, but I don't know where it is. No other brushes (besides, if I tried to brush, it was ALWAYS clogged after the first pass through his fur). People have mistaken my current dog for being clean and we'll groomed. (He is well enough groomed to sleep on the bed). For the most part, his cost takes care of itself.
I would recommend a prong or lead for leash training too, not a dog you wanna try to leash train with a harness, unless you're training them to pull a cart lol. Especially if they're big, mine is 150lbs
Mellow weights 156 and was only ever trained on a harness and regular flat collar🥰. Prong collars are great training tools but I always recommend starting off with a harnesses and then moving to a prong collar if necessary!
Yeah, I completely agree the "no, on training with a harness" part 100%! This weird trend to use a harness for training is a combination of companies wanting to sell more products and misinformed pet parents. The dog harness was invented for husky's and malamute's to pull sleds, literally made for pulling. I also don't like nor recommend the prong/pinch collar (I tried it in my early/uneducated days) my Pyrenees couldn't have cared less. I've also seen lots of Mastiff owners using them and the dog isn't even fazed/doesn't care. The only training collar I would recommend is the Gentle Leader Headcollar, it's $20 on Amazon. It is really a horse halter for a dog which makes lots of sense especially on any giant breed dog. Watch the youtube of how to put it on and FIT it correctly, it makes a big difference.
I ordered a 3 foot chain leash for mine to drag around inside because she apparently wasn't introduced to a leash at the farm we got her from a couple weeks ago. I'm gonna remove it if she chews it excessively because even though she is 4 months old, I want her teeth to stay in her mouth while her baby teeth are still developing. I don't know how long it takes for teeth to grow back, and I read that dog teeth become fully developed when the dog is 7 months old. I ordered a durable nylon leash also in case I need to remove the steel one. I don't want a leather leash because I'm gonna be too lazy to condition the leather to protect it from the rain.
I need to invest in the collapsible stairs for Scarlett. She’s getting older, and it would be easier on her joints for getting into bed and the car. She’s on glucosamine and gets daily massages, but that’s a really great idea.

Just a suggestion, but consider a crate. We crate trained our GP in a large grate for big breeds like Great Danes. Some so called experts say the crate should be no bigger than the dog to prevent them from using part of the crate to do their business. We have never had an accident. The added bonus is the dog can move around as GP are nocturnal and tend to want to move about for a few moments throughout the night.
Absolutely I believe every dog should be crate trained for their safety, Mellow was in a crate as a puppy and he loved his crate! He does not need a crate now because he got too big for the biggest crate we could fine but he is trusted to be left out.
Great video Paige! Very informative! We are looking to get new customized collars like those for our Great Pyrenees. Would you recommend them for outdoor dogs? Do you think they will do well in the weather and elements?
Yeah they would definitely be great for outdoor dogs! Jovial our coonhound likes to roll around and get dirty and her collar is still in good condition! They are also really easy to wash!
I am fostering Pyrenees pups. I have no idea if the owner will use the pups to guard livestock or if the pups will be pets. Kind of lost at the moment on how to train.
I would say the most important thing to do is socialize the pups to as many things as possible. Socializing them to people and other animals is important but also socializing them to different environments and places is just as important. Great Pyrenees have the instincts to guard the livestock so by focusing on socializing them to things like chickens, goats, and other farm animals that will definitely help the future owners for both a pet or livestock guardian dog!
Please be mindful of a "puppy mill". Gp are great on ranches or city apartments. It all depends on the owner. Please protect the babies from becoming an insest puppy mill
Thank you for this. My dad just got a Pyrenees as a companion pet, not a farm dog. Your video was very helpful when getting supplies

where did you get your great pyr?
My 1-year-old Great Pyrenees, Serena, has always loved rope toys - the bigger - the better,
