Our pet cockatiels preening and pecking each other

  • (Watch full screen in 1080p if your computer allows it!) Willow and Pistachio are our family's two cockatiels; Willow (the gray male on the left) is 10-12 years old and Pistachio (the pearl female on the left) is probably about 8 or 9. Here Willow does a thorough job of preening Pistachio's head, but not without some pecking contests along the way (which I've shifted to the end of the video). I think you'll agree that the two are very photogenic, especially in HD. :-)
This is definitely the best video I have of them so far. The 'view' from the camera lens is perhaps even better than the view in person because the lens magnifies their features when you watch in full screen.

My cockatiel is always nudging my finger with her head trying to get me to scratch her. This is a good demonstration of what she wants.

They have very complex social orders. They will preen friends and females they wish to court. Also friendly sparing with fellow males. Its not nasty biting just playful nipping

Same for mine except it's the male that doesn't return the favour. Well, he does it VERY rarely, but whenever he does it, he's way too rough and she quickly walks away. lol

Me showing this to my tiels like the idiot I am: "YOU'RE SUPPOSED TO DO THIS TO EACH OTHER! NOT TO TORTURE EACH OTHER!!!"
    My boy: "interesting"
My girl: "that's what I receive, not what I deal 💅🏻"

How about him how old? We have a pair that do the same as those two do and one is yellow the other a reguler grey.
The yellow is a young male and the female she is old I think. He is always nocking her off of the pertch.
