Hello. I am Ty Hunter Jr. Thank you for posting this.
FYI, with 100% certainty, this is my late father singing the lead on this song. Hence the name listed, Ty Hunter and The Voicemasters. Signed, His son

I first heard and fell in love with this song in 1960 when I was 11 years old and have never forgotten it. Much love to your father for recording this fantastic song!

Magnificent for someone I have never heard of. From a rich early 60s soul view. Sam Cooke, Gene Chandler and a few more.

That's Ty Hunter on lead. Some of The Originals' members (C.P. Spencer and Hank Dixon were also in this group. David Ruffin and Lamont Dozier also sang with them. They had evolved out of The Five Stars, who had been managed by ex group member, Billy "Roquelle" Davis, and were produced by Berry Gordy. The Five Stars had morphed out of The Five Jets (Federal Records).

The Five Jets actually recorded for DeLuxe, rather than Federal Records.

robbk1 who do you think sang lead for the five jets and five stars? Gordy cheated my father out of thousands.

@@mannymurphy2512I've listened to Ty Hunter on several tunes so I'm.of the opinion your dad's and his voice are identical.

I thought this song was patterned after "Chain Gang." So which came first?

Actually that's not Ty Hunter's voice. That's my father's voice, Joe Murphy aka Joe Charles, the original lead of the Five Jets, Five Stars and Voicemasters. The story goes that this is the group, along with David Ruffin that Gordy would take and start Motown. However, disputes over money and other things led to the birth of the Temptations along with Gordy starting Motown with Smokey Robinson and the Miracles. My dad's voice is distinct and unique. I urge you to listen to some of his other stuff and judge for yourself.

Sorry Manny, that is definitely the voice of Ty Hunter. it's the same voice on "Everything about you" the record that was out before this one.

Tyrone Cannon We’ll never know with any certainty. My father use to say that he sang a lot of the leads but never got credit for it. The original voicemasters has my dad Joe Charles and David Ruffin singing lead. Maybe my dad left and this guy Tyrone replaced him. But most of the other singers in that group were members of my dad’s old groups. Gordy cheated a lot of those guys back then.
