@@andrewjames_in Maybe March. There is already a similar hub being sold on 'that Chinese retail site'* for around $60 (Edit: I was wrong it was 60 euros.), I've forgotten if it includes shipping. The power button on the bottom should have been on the top or in the back, or anywhere but the bottom. You'll see that the hub has to raise the Mac Mini and include a hole so you can press the button. I'd prefer that you press the button and then put the Mac Mini on the hub. * four characters (Edit: There are a number of separately labeled hubs already available. If you can wait, RayCue has a faster one coming out at the end of 2024.)
I have the M4 Mac Mini and got a Transcend 2TB external drive. It’s literally the size of a thumb drive, has a usb-c and usb-a connector and is the perfect size to use an angled connector and still fit inside the footprint of the Mac Mini. It’s great so far.
Hey guys, sorry I didn’t see this before. TH-cam isn’t liking me linking to Amazon, but it’s the Transcend 2TB ESD310C, External Solild State Drive I then just put a right angle adapter on it so it sits flush with the front of the Mac Mini. It does cover the audio port but I never use that anyway.
There are those enclosure! Look up OWC 1m2 enclosure. You’ll need and NVME M.2 ssd for it (little bigger than the one in the video. Good ones are Samsung 990 pro or crucial t700
Getting full Speeds are not confusing, manufacturers are capitalizing off of not being clear. It took me deep diving to understand this, before I understood what NVME SSD and Enclosure Combo to buy for Thunderbolt 4 Speeds that matched what manufacturers are always advertising. I feel relieved now but I hate people have to go through this exercise.
The OWC Express 1M2 is 3x faster and is completely silent. It’s a much better choice for somebody who goes with the 256 base model and needs a drive to use as a home drive. These little cheap drives are great for storing photos and videos or for portable data uses.
I couldn't find a Thunderbolt enclosure. I did find an OWC 4TB Envoy Ultra Thunderbolt 5 Portable SSD for $600, and a 2TB version for $400. It has a short cable that is hard-wired to the device, so it would have to sit very close to the M4 Mini.
Yeah the ssd is removable this time around but it seems to use Apple’s own proprietary SSD like with the Mac Studio which hinders 3rd party upgrades at the moment.
Just to reply, but everybody watching you is in someway interested in being a content creator do you know content creators are much the same as actor do you have like one in 1 billion chance of making it as a content creator and most of us don’t give a shit about it. We have jobs The majority of people that are buying the subject matter here of Apple mini M4 are not buying it to become a content creator, never thought of becoming a content creator don’t have any plans to become a contact creator. They’re buying it because for the price point that’s one of the best options out there. It’s really powerfuleasy to set up in use and if you have an Apple phone and put your computer in the Apple ecosystem with your phone, which is also really convenient still not trying to become a content creator.
Cool, but for $60 you can get a true TB 4 case. Larger, sure, but 3X the speed... and no fan. Base M4 minis have been $500 on and off many places since the day they were announced. No macs support 3.2 USB C, so cant get 20 GB/s
True there’s always a premium price for smaller form factor which is why the benefit for me is its multipurpose use with your computer, phone, or gaming device. Also why if they made a thunderbolt option that would up the incentive even more. But that of course would come with a price hike as well.
2230 size SSDs are too small to hold many flash chips nor DRAM so they’re more expensive and less capable than more standard long 2280 drives. There’s no reason to go this small on your desk. 2230 makes sense in a Steam Deck, or if you already have a 2230 lying around; Just make sure to use the extender cable to avoid breaking your ports. Otherwise get a Samsung portable drive. They’re the standard for many production workflows.
That your cake give me a whole video telling us to buy an external that’s the upgrade that is buying an external use of one of the slots one of the ports to keep an external flood be all the time
It’s not necessarily a “waste” if you have a free port. Not all purposes need expensive Thunderbolt speed. If 10Gb/sec is fast enough for a certain purpose, as it often is, it can be better to spend the same money on more 10Gb/sec capacity rather than less 40Gb/sec capacity. This is why I have a mix of Thunderbolt and USB 3 drives for media work. It’s no more of a “waste” than plugging a low bandwidth scanner, mouse, or calibrator into an unused USB 3 port. An example of a “waste” of money is using a Thunderbolt SSD as a Time Machine backup drive. The average backup data rate is so far below 40Gb/sec that a 10Gb/sec drive will allow more backup capacity for less money at no loss of backup speed.
Why would anyone buy these old slow drives. Get a zike drive and a gen 4 NVME, twice the read and read speed of these drives. Or if you have the money you can now get the new Thunderbolt 5 from TREBLEET with a gen 5 nvme.
Had to stop watching after less than a minute as the insane amount of jump cuts actually gave me a headache. Seriously. Could've been a wonderful video but I'll never know.
Your audio editing in this video is nearly flawless, but you absolutely do not care about jumping video. I am a video editor myself, and it's hard to watch your video despite the interesting information: please try to talk the right sentences instead of editing it into the right sentences, it would absolutely improve the watching experience of your video. Sadly this kind of editing is totally en vogue, but it makes me wonder wether any decent sense of filmmaking is vanishing forever... Just my two cents
Appreciate the feedback! The jump cut edit is intentional. I’ve noticed the trend and I always experimented with different kinds of styles on my channel as I’m curious to see what catches people’s eye. However, I also don’t want to be unwatchable lol so I can experiment with dialing it back to find a happy middle ground.
8:46 That fan would drive me crazy!
A super thorough video! Excellent! Thank you for a great presentation😍
A very good look at an enclosure form factor I didn't even know existed.
Satechi is going to release a dock for M4 mini. That's probably the cleanest way of having more storage and a USB hub.
Yes can’t wait for this!
Any idea on the release date?

You better check the Colorii Mac mini hub.
Speeds will be terrible on that

Link to buy or name ?

got m4 with 512gb at costco 689 .99 also got Crucial X10 Pro SSD 2tb it's my frist apple computer so far love it
How?
I'm thinking of buying the mac mini for a nas storage solution because of how little power they use.
previous versions have a setchi dock with nvme built in
that drive need some love from Noctua
😂
Work around the limit of 250 is wild advice. Original so points there
Wild indeed lol but been effective for me. Just need to have a full understanding of your needs.
Ray cue also has a hub that is actually better than the hub from Satechi.
Interesting video…thanks!
No problem!
Now if they can make these enclosures in a thunderbolt format it would be great.
Exactly!
You are ignoring the heat factor for those kinds of speeds.
I’d say I more hopeful that they’d figure out how to deal with that part lol
There are those enclosure! Look up OWC 1m2 enclosure. You’ll need and NVME M.2 ssd for it (little bigger than the one in the video. Good ones are Samsung 990 pro or crucial t700
Agreed, especially if it would support the TB-5 on the M4 Pro configurations.
The lock switches are for write locks, not the enclosure. At least on sharge!
Literally found that out after filming! It’s the case for both and now feel silly lol
Subbed. Great content. Thanks.
Hey Man, Nice 👌 Video
Isn't the back of the Mac Mini Thunderbolt connectors and not USB???
They are TB ports, but I think they will support USB devices, although at reduced speeds. Perhaps someone can verify that for us. -Doug
Do not forget an education discount.
Are you sure about the noise fan of the satechi? If it's true it's magic, someone can confirm please?
I have the Sharge disk. The fan is too loud and annoying so I have relegated it to use it like a portable USB stick.
Do you think either of these would work on an iPad 10th generation?
Getting full Speeds are not confusing, manufacturers are capitalizing off of not being clear.

Nice & Thanks :)
So.....a PEN DRIVE but with sound built in.
I think you're mixing up megabits with MegaBYTES
i thought the ssd on the 256 is removable? cant you take the ssd and replace it?
Yeah the ssd is removable this time around but it seems to use Apple’s own proprietary SSD like with the Mac Studio which hinders 3rd party upgrades at the moment.
Apple only connection and special duaghtercard. So nothing you can buy off the shelf.

I paid $230 for a 4tb Crucial X9 Pro

@@rorobeckley in the end, if this works great for you, then you don't really need TB.
Fan is a deal breaker, isn’t it?
Depends. If you’re used to dealing with fans in your setup then I don’t think so.

Me looking at 256Gb knowing I use Products like Heat Up 3 Ultimate Edition (228Gb) & Syntronik 2 (222GB)
I got external ssd's for Daaaaaayz
They are too slow. 10 and 20 Gbps. I purchased a ZikeDrive (just an enclosure) that has a 40 Gbps standard inside. 🤘🏼
That your cake give me a whole video telling us to buy an external that’s the upgrade that is buying an external use of one of the slots one of the ports to keep an external flood be all the time
same speed of a Samsung t7 or crucial x9 ....
Worry.. the jump cuts are way too irritating and disruptive
I am guess these are 10gb speed?
Yup they are
@@rorobeckley so plugging them on the thunderbolt ports is a waste of ports

The author don’t even mention how loud the fan is. Clearly an affiliated marketing video.

Do you really need a clickbait red arrow in your thumbnail pointing the the only thing that you're holding? Come on. Just stop this clickbait garbage.
No red arrow in this thumbnail 🤷🏽♂️
Forgive me for saying. This is a whole lot of blah blah blah.
Look at how dirty is the Mac
