The lead singer Ronnie Van Zant, guitarist Steve Gains, backup vocalist Cassie Gains & several members of their crew died. Ronnie's brother Johnny Van Zant replaced his brother when the band reformed in 87. Leonard Skinner was their Gym teacher in H. S. They were poking fun at him because he was strict & didn't believe in long hair on a boy. Great Band & you may want to do the whole album when you can, they had some deep cuts that were great. You guys are the BEST. Peace!

Many years later, Lynyrd Skynyrd invited Coach Skinner onstage after all of them reconciled with the coach. I read that Skinner enjoyed the concert. At a location of original stuff displayed at Rock Hall mentioned of Coach Skinner. Skinner is immortalized in Rock History.

Ronnie Van Zant the leader of the band ,the lead singer and the writer of the lyrics died in the plane crash . Cassie Gaines a backup singer and her little brother Steve Gaines who just over a year before had taken over as the 3rd lead guitarist after Ed King had left the band were the only members of the band who died . Also Dean Kirkpatrick the assistant road manager and the pilot and co-pilot died for a total of 6 . However the other 20 people on the plane ( the rest of the band the roadies sound men lighting men and such ) were ALL injured severally to critically but luckily nobody else died . A few were in the hospital a couple of months and more . Gentlemen this is one of the very few bands of all time TO NEVER EVER HAVE RECORDED OR PERFORMED A BAD SONG ‼️ As I said before never a bad song so anything you listen to from Skynyrd you are gonna love but I would suggest for your next Lynyrd Skynyrd video CALL ME THE BREEZE it's 💯 percent full on joy turned into music you won't be able to sit still . Go ahead don't believe me just listen to it and see you won't be sorry welcome to the wonderful world of SKYNYRDVILLE 😂🤣😂✌️❤️🎸💯🖤🧡🖤🧡🖤🧡🖤🧡🖤🧡🖤🧡 WHO DEY ALL DEY EVERY DEY Party On Garth

@@ricshaffer4009 I saw Lynyrd Skynyrd boo’ed off the stage when they fronted the WHO in ST Louis, MO!!! They turned the sound off on them, left Allen Collins onstage playing by himself!

@@redevil7081 My favorite band. I've seen them live about a dozen times and regret not seeing them more than that. I just don't like to limit the Allman Brothers to Southern Rock, even though they sort of inadvertently invented the genre, along with Skynyrd, Marshall Tucker, Charlie Daniels and many others. The Brothers are their own unique mix of blues, rock, jazz, country and other styles. If I was going to pick one of theirs to represent Southern Rock from them, I'd probably pick "Ramblin Man" or "Whipping Post", but I like so many of their other songs better. Maybe "One Way Out" from the original band? BTW, I'm curious about the Redevil 70 moniker, what's that about?

    • @redevil7081
      @redevil7081 ปีที่แล้ว +2

@@gleffersjr6855 I had the opportunity to see many of these groundbreaking southern bands often and in many venues. Being southern had nothing to do with the genre.
CCRevival could be considered a major contributor(California band), as well as the Texas swing boogie playing in 1965-66.
I also know confidants in the early Nashville music scene! I’ve met and became friends with several members of these groups! The Allmans had relatives all over middle TN. The great music was ingrained; some was because of the music their parents listened to; from delta blues, gospel, bluegrass to Big Band!
My moniker is a tribute to some high school football friends who played in a great early rock and roll band!

October 20th 1977 was the plane crash. Such a blow to this great band. Their live album released in 1976 is so powerful. If you do any live stuff, please be sure it's pre crash. Also be sure to listen to That Smell from the Street Survivors album. That was the last album before the crash. Came back in 1987 with 5 founding members. Skynyrd is my favorite band of all time. Left to Right on the album cover, Leon Wilkeson bass, Billy Powell piano, Ronnie Van Zant vocals, Gary Rossington guitar, Bob Burns drums, Allen Collins guitar, Ed King guitar.
Only 1 person on the cover died in the crash and that was Ronnie Van Zant.
This album was their first album released in 1973. Ed King and Bob Burns were no longer with the band when the plane crashed on October 20th 1977. Artimus Pyle had taken over on drums around 74 or 75 and Steve Gaines took Ed Kings place on guitar in 76.
There were 26 people on the plane, 6 died, Ronnie Van Zant, Steve Gaines, Cassie Gaines who sang back up vocals and was also Steve's sister. Dean Kilpatrick who was their road manager, and both pilots.
Everyone on the cover of this album is gone now with the passing of Gary Rossington just 11 days ago.
The Rabbit hole is deep and will be worth the trip for you both. I suggest studio versions first and then live versions. They are awesome to watch live and IMHO the best Southern rock band ever, and actually my favorite band ever. Great reaction and enjoy your trip down Lynyrd Skynyrd Lane guys, I'll be watching. Yes, they were involved in a plane crash in October 1977. From this picture on that album cover, actually only one person was killed. That was the lead singer, Ronnie, Van Zant.
Ed King, one of the three guitarist, left the band, and was replaced by Steve Gaines. His sister was one of the three backup vocalists, and Steve and his sister Cassie were both killed, as well as Ronnie. Everyone else from the band itself survived. There were 26 on the plane, with 20 survivors.

What a band and what a song. I think it's fair to say an anthem for life and advice most all Mama's would give their sons. Super reaction gentlemen. Oct 20th 1977 was one of my most bitter teenage days growing up. They are all finally together again...RIP. ❤️
Mama told me when I was young
"Come sit beside me, my only son
And listen closely to what I say
And if you do this it'll help you
    Some sunny day"
    Oh, yeah
Oh, take your time, don't live too fast
Troubles will come and they will pass
You'll find a woman, yeah, and you'll find love
And don't forget son there is someone up above
And be a simple kind of man
Oh, be something you love and understand
Baby, be a simple kind of man
Oh, won't you do this for me son, if you can?
Forget your lust for the rich man's gold
All that you need is in your soul
And you can do this, oh, baby, if you try
All that I want for you, my son, is to be satisfied
And be a simple kind of man
Oh, be something you love and understand
Baby, be a simple kind of man
Oh, won't you do this for me son, if you can?
    Oh, yes, I will
Boy, don't you worry, you'll find yourself
Follow your heart and nothing else
And you can do this, oh, baby, if you try
All that I want for you, my son, is to be satisfied
And be a simple kind of man
Oh, be something you love and understand
Baby, be a simple kind of man
Oh, won't you do this for me son, if you can?
Baby, be a simple, be a simple man
Oh, be something you love and understand
Baby, be a simple kind of man

And yes, the plane crash in 1977 was horrible. They were at the height of their career, just released a new (great) album. They lost three members, including the lead singer Ronnie Van Zant. Lynyrd Skynyrd has such a huge variety in their catalog across several albums before the plane crash in '77 which effectively ended the group. You will probably get a lot of requests for The Ballad Of Curtis Loew and I hope you do that one. Not only is it a great song, but it just shows you the contrast and what they are capable of doing.
And there are so many deep cuts you will probably never get to that are just amazing from a musical point of view. Railroad Song is one of those, for example. But they are all over the place but they always have their own sound. They were insanely talented and so tight. And just so many well written songs, both in the complex interweaving musical arrangements and lyrically as well.
They named their band after their gym teacher in high school, laugh. At one point I saw an interview with him later in life and he said that they were troublemakers to some degree and he was skeptical about where they would end up in life, but once they made it, he said he looks back upon them fondly.
I love the bass guitar lines in every Lynyrd Skynyrd song, and for most of their time, Leon Wilkeson was the bass player and that guy was a monster. Not only was he talented, they would sometimes play these three hour shows and he was relentless, like a machine. And he looked good on stage doing it, laugh.
I owned all of their albums and there is not one song I don't like. It's that kind of band, for me anyway. Every single song.
If you truly want to get blown away by some virtuoso musicianship, check out Honky Tonk Night Time Man from their final album Street Survivor before the plane crash. It will blow you away. Also, I know A Little is a short fast little boogie Banger featuring Steven Gaines on guitar and it's incredible. And it was a very popular radio and jukebox song from that same album.

But this is what we did. We shared records; we'd hop rides to the record store when we knew someone was going. Each of us had a box of 45s. My cousin bought the "Pronounced" album---the 33s being too rich for my blood---and you better believe his esteem grew in my eyes! He turned me on to Bad Company, too, about the same time. the whole group did not die, Ronnie Van Zant the lead singer died, Steve Gaines guitarist died as did his sister Cassie Gaines one of the back up singer as did Gene Kilpatrick the road manager and the two pilots. The rest were seriously injured. Thanks for doing this review guys.

I loved Lynyrd Skynyrd before the plane crash, which killed the lead singer/writer/leader of the band, the keyboardist, a guitarist and his sister, who was a backup singer. Many were severely injured and carried on, but without Ronnie Van Zandt, they were never the same, as I moved to more progressive music. Lynyrd Skynyrd is a misspelling of their high school teacher's name. Have you listened to Neil Young, an eclectic, prolific genius? I suggest the song "Southern Man," which was mentioned in Lynyrd Skynyrd's hit "Sweet Home Alabama." You guys are great!

Billy Powell the keyboardist did survive the crash. Lost in the crash were Ronnie Van Zant, Steve Gaines, his sister Cassie, the bands manager along with the pilot and co-pilot.

Great track; one of my fave's from LS - reminds me of my big bro, who jammed this band a lot. For a rockin' guitar riff, I'd try "On The Hunt". "The Ballad of Curtis Lowe" is another stellar, stand-out, lesser known track. Their cover of "They Call Me The Breeze" is very worthwhile, also; though you should really do JJ Cale's original version. JJ Cale is a monster songwriter you should check out (he wrote "After Midnight" and "Cocaine", both covered - and usually wrongly - attributed to Clapton).

Ed King is the one with the lightning bolt going through his head in the picture on the album cover. The photographer took several pictures and when he realized he captured a lightning bolt he stopped and told the guys we got it. And immediately Gary Rossington, the guy sitting closest to Ed throw up all over the side walk :^)

As mentioned before by Arthur Woodson an obvious and knowledgeable Skynyrd fan, only 2 members of the band who are on the front cover of Pronounced 'Lĕh-'nérd 'Skin-'nérd died in the crash of the airplane. Ronnie Van Zant, the lead singer and songwriter, with his back against the brick wall and Steve Gaines (the brother of Cassie Gaines, backup singer), the replacement guitar player for Ed King. ED King is on the far right side of the album cover who created one of the most iconic and recognizable guitar intros or riffs in Sweet Home Alabama. They have a deep catalog that includes some of the best song writing and one of the most phenomenal bands to ever create music on the planet. Gary Rossington just passed away recently. He was the last original member to remain alive. Dig deeper my friends! You will be rewarded.

one thing alot of the sound engineers and producers for LS said, was they were the tightest band they ever heard. Reason is, outside of their writing room(the Hellhouse) there was no improvisation. The only time they would improvise is during the writing process. Outside of that, it was the same each and every time making it better with repetition. Oh, and during the writing process they would pick mushrooms and make mushroom tea all day, tripping and "feeling" the music through each other said Gary Rossington. And they were known for having an insane work ethic, 8 to 10 hours a day in a literal shed in Florida, 120 degrees inside sometimes because no AC. Keep in mind tripping balls the whole time. Ronnie would go out and fish while the band hashed out the music, he would think up lyrics and then go in the Hellhouse and work it out, never writing any of it down. Nothing compares to the first few years of LS before the crash, such a tragedy for so many reasons.

Free Bird, live 1976 at Knebworth please! Lynyrd Skynyrd preceded the Rolling Stones. The Stones were promoting their new album, Hot Licks and had a tongue shaped catwalk added to the stage. All the other performers were told to stay off the catwalk. Ronnie Van Zant said screw that and had his guitar army use the tongue for the guitar solo on Free Bird that day. They had the crowd in such a frenzy, the Stones refused to come out for hours, till they settled down. Amazing performance! th-cam.com/video/vm7bkVxBXdA/w-d-xo.html
