Hello Again Tim. That FORT you keep referring to as a DUTCH fort was originally built by the Portuguese to defend Colombo during their occupation, the ruins of the Negombo Dutch Fort are situated approximately 30 kilometres north of Colombo, near the mouth of the Negombo lagoon. The original structure erected by the Portuguese was weak and was soon captured by Dutch forces in 1640's. I know this as I studied the history of Ceylon when I lived there with my parents. Dad was a Superintendent Marine Engineer who was sent out to what was then the Dominion of British Ceylon in 1954 initially to supervise repairs to the Shaw Saville Liner ss "GOTHIC" that brought *HER MAJESTY QUEEN ELIZABETH & THE DUKE OF EDINBURGH* on their tour of the Commonwealth in 1954. From what I can recall, GOTHIC was damaged when a tanker collided with her whilst she was anchored in Colombo Harbour. Lloyds of London thought it would be a good idea to have one of their Engineers to remain in Ceylon and gave dad a contract. We were there from 1954 to April 1961, when we travelled to Australia and settled down there. My brother and I were schooled by a British School in Colombo, and learned all about the Portuguese arrival in what was then Cellelia in 1505. The Rock into which the Portuguese carved their COURT OF ARMS was situated in *GORDON GARDENS* in Colombo. AI remember taking a photograph of that rock. I don't know whether the locals got rid of the rock but it is certainly worth a visit to Gordon Gardens. That fort in Negombo maybe now referred to as a DUTCH Fort as the Dutch were the last to occupy it; the same as the Fort in Galle which is down south. That too was originally a Portuguese Fort build by the Portuguese, taken over by the DUTCH and subsequently reinforced. That fort at Galle was subsequently captured by British Troops and used as an Administration centre.
Dear Tim , I saw a lot of TH-cam channel and travel Vlogs but I have ever seen such as you because you are a really honest and humble man... Congratulations to 200k subscribers as soon as possible... I'm Nisala and from Sir Lanka...
Your videos wants me to visit Sri Lanka asap. Sri Lanka has been my home away from home as I do have Sri Lankan background. Just a side note, I would be terrified to ride a bike on busy roads in Sri Lanka. You are a pro!
FYI. That old lady was making a some kind of roof cover using coconut leaves.. In here some of small houses use this to cover them's houses roof. Mostly you can see this kind of roofs near more rural areas and this kind of houses wall also built using mud. We called this kind of houses as 'pol athu gewal' . 'Pol athu' means coconut leaves in Sinhalese language.
Hello Tim, Just clearing the doubt that we Sri Lankans mostly don’t add alcohol to our food..Such a nice vibe.. Kanji means porridge basically..In Tamil it’s called Kanji and in sinhala it’s Keda…There are different types of porridge and it’s just one type of it..Another famous type of porridge in Sri lanka is Kola keda(Herbal n tasty with the mix of sour to it) Love from Colombo 🇱🇰❤

Tap water is safer than bottle water in Sri Lanka LOL. People normally do boil it or filter it just to be extra safe.
